The Matrix ain't Cyberpunk!! it's just a 2 hour movie of terrible acting and movie mistakes.

Matrix has a lot of Cyberpunk elements and a whole trilogy is much longer than 2 hours. It's rather disappointing, agreed, cause characters and ideas take a back seat to the special effects.

And it's definitely NOT a Film Noir (crime drama that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations), so I suggest some trolls to use internet before posting there something ^^

In fact, I just wanted to say, it is not a big comliment to mention Polish movie and Japanese director beside - in my humble opinion - overrated worldwide blockbuster (yes, it has bigger audience because many people are too lazy to read subtitles :)), so what?). Avalon is good by itself. It is good as it is.

A really good cyberpunk film. Now I know where that Ghost In The Shell' s dog comes from :) Both movies are about the same: what is virtual, what is real, reality is just a 7 letters word and nobody knows what it means.

Summoning the spirit of Matrix makes me feel kinda uncomfortable, though. Matrix is a crap (put your thumbs down if you're into superheroes, I'll survive it somehow ;), but admit - Neo is too cool to identify with), choose these two to watch, watch over again and enjoy. I did.

And Neo is easy to identify with. He's not the one because of some innate superhero ability, he's the one because he truly believes he can do anything. When you realize that, you can realize he's not some amazing person, he's just never really grown up.

Believe me, I know quite a lot about movies and I can say the very 1st Matrix wasn't that bad movie at all, but 2nd and 3rd just spoiled the mood. If you are able to identify yourself with Neo, do it. But please don't expect it from me, okay?

Then why put The Matrix into it? If you don't want people to comment on what you have to say, don't say it. Pretty simple...

Also, if you can't identify with him, you need to understand his character rather than trying to think of him as some reincarnation of Jesus...

And FYI, Ghost in the Shell has been out since long before Avalon... Timelines are worldwide, you have no excuse for that...

This is a Polish-Japanesse movie, music by Kenji Kawaii, he cooperated with Polish musicians many times.

Btw. the soundtrack for Escaflone was made by the Warsaw Symphonic orchestra.

Casshern, i bet. It looks like it has more action and dialog than Avalon, though. (Not a hard feat.)

For an actual groundbreaking storyline, you should watch the Matrix trilogy. Dark City and eXistenZ are also good.

Yes, i liked the style, plot, pacing, and dialog. It wasn't as broad as The Matrix (which used one of the rooftop sets), but it's certainly up there with most Twilight Zone eps and some of The Truman Show.

Gamer can't compare to Avalon, Avalon deals thematically with certain philosophical ideals and themes that permeate the film, whereas Gamer is more of an actioner that deals somewhat with similar themes in a more visceral way; both films are good in their own way, I like them both, but Avalon approaches said themes more vividly and languidly explains them in broader detail

I saw the movie - the most trippy thing is that the movie was tri-lingual. Mamoru Oshii filmed it in Poland and used Polish actors so during the whole movie they speak in Polish. . . and on the bottom of the screen you see Japanese subtitles. Once in a while, though, English is used too.

Most people copy elements from their surrounding, which includes other people.

For example, Matrix copied GitS' rooftop landing, acupuncture idea, and some (by then common) style, and Avalon copied Matrix's "real world" hookup chair and color filtering (as many modern movies and games do, sadly). Maybe some "bullet time" as well, though i think Natural Born Killers' knife scene helped inspire that.

Cyberpunk themes are not a new thing.

If you go into discussion of who copied who, then in this case you would have to mention that Wachowski Brothers and Oshii both copied William Gibson who wrote the Neuromancer (back in 1984 I think). Also, Wachowski brothers most certainly were influenced by Dark City (which came out in 1998 and featured a premise very similar to that of Matrix and a character similar to Neo ).
