I watched some of the British life on Mars- It just didnt resonate w/ me cause that is not the '70's I remember. There is enough diffrence in our two cultures for American's to need an American version. The whole thing does not work if there is no connection to that '70's culture. so all you Brits enjoy your version- I enjoyed mine and leave us alone.
No fucking way why does America have to take good British programs or films and fuck them up. Take war of the worlds for example based in England America takes it and claims it as their own. They will never make a program as good as life on mars OR ashes to ashes fucking yanks!
see what i mean in the original version of it. it was set in 2006 and in theres they was set in 2005 and in the 70s the BBC version was in 1973 and theres Was in 1972 but BBC Version Of The UK IS BETTER THAN THE US
"Based on the international hit series" Exactly - John Simm and Phillip Glenister in the orignal British version - one of the most astonishing pieces of perfectly crafted television I have ever seen in my life. What the hell is this shit?????? lol
They made i t to slapstick, I cant see that they made this show wrong but i can gues to cheap budget with a unloving company-its shines through in this trailer-we dont have fun or money or funding or brain to do a desent show, one obvius fault is using actors used in other policeshows but also a cheap desision made by the company
Holy Crap! Jesus... this is just awful! The plot's copied, it looks ike a freaking comedy, and... good GOD! It just sucks! WE WANT PHILLIP GLENISTER!!!
no relationship between sam and gene, just didnt work, and they changed the fundemental apect of the show, made it black and white, the best part about life on mars was the grey area, Sam who is whiter than white struggling to deal with how things were done in the 70s
While the original version was at least believable and looked authentic and eerie this US-Version looks like a comedy show with really bad acting.
It's a shame what they did which such a good idea.
A german TV-Movie "Mörder kennen keine Grenzen" that was copying the same concept was equally awful as the US-Version. In that version the cop was run over by a subway and woke up in the 80's as "Volkspolizist" (the east german police) and had to deal with the east german secret agency "Stasi".
I absolutly love life on mars and ashes to ashes, but this looks so much worse than the uk version, they should just show the uk one in the us and explain to the people who dont understand certain things (eg gary baldies). This looks so bad...
Yeah guys this is only parts of the un aired pilot of the US version, the writers strike caused it to be changed, re written. Example, Colm Meany (who plays Gene Hunt in this footage) gets replaced by Harvey Kietel. They still used Jason O'Mara to play Sam Tyler (seen here), but the season i watched was actually pretty dam good, good actors, good episodes. Now i watcht ashes to ashes and the original life on Mars. And filing itself is much better.
Well, I havn´t seen the american version. In Germany they showed the british series and it´s awesome! So why do a remake of it? I think US-TV-Studios ran out on great ideas years ago. All the good and original stuff like "dead like me" or "invasion" gets cancelled for remakes like this? Shame! And what´s Colm Meaney doing there? And this crappy peice of nothing is nothing on the original. Literally.
My gosh they've just ruined this on every possible level. Awful. I couldn't even bare to watch to the end of the trailer! It really looks like a spoof, it's just... terrible.
This is no spoof, no joke, this was the un aired pilot by famous TV producer Davie E. Kelly(Boston Legal, etc). ABC did not like it either and told Kely to take a leap, re-casted and moved it from LAPD to NYPD. This is so bad it is not even going to be included in the DVD release. The weekly show set in NY was MUCH better, except for the last episode!!!
No, this just... it doesn't work in America. The whole concept of Like on Mars was MADE for Britain. I mean, it looks as if they've totally screwed up Gene Hunt's character. BIG time. Phillip Glenister and John Simm are WAY better actors!
I just hope to god they don't make a US version of "Ashes to Ashes". Which is coming back in three days! YAY!
The US version is a GREAT show. This unseen pilot does it no justic!! The NY setting and cast is much better. I am hoping OUR ending tonight is as good as the UK ending. Theirs was GREAT!!!
Well we got screwed here in the US. Junk ending. Writers and producers wanted something very different than the UK version. They were not kidding. I think they were High when they came up with this ending. What a way to ruin a great show!!!

Based on your word, though, I'll try the first episode some time.
hhhha ha ha ha !!! you american producers dare to imit this british show, but you can't understand the half of it: this is too deep for a remake, c'est un chef-d'oeuvre!!!!!! trop profond , trop anglais.
this must be a really old version of the us series. i hate it how the americans takes all the good british tv and make it american, makes me soo angry
it's interesting watching this trailer now after the show has been released on abc to see so many differences. (how he gets hit on the phone instead of the radio, he apparrently gets a camaro here instead of the chevelle, but we won't hold that against him.)
AND SO many characters are different except for sam tyler!
Never seen this show, apparently from reading the colourful comments it was a British show first and foremost. This is just about to air in Australia and thought I would check it out. Mmmmm interesting, now I would like to watch the original after reading the various strong objections to this Americian remake. I didnt realise there was an emotional attachment regarding this show to the brits...must see original to initiate further comment. I love Australian television and our originality.
lol I aint seen the american version but trust the english versions proper cushti. ITs all dark and that. THis looks proper cheesy. I suppose its what your into tho.
Come on. The original Life on Mars is a beautiful contrast between everything. Including lighting.
Take a screen shot from the original Life on Mars, and you could almost think it was painted. Sharp, chrisp, beautifully shot.
This, however, looks ever so cheap! Most American TV does to me. I don't mean to be nasty or anything. Some American TV could still be mistaken for something from 1994.
i don't want to use the word "Americans". i don't think american people have anything to do with the awful things .they didn't vote or elect ABC to remake the show.ABC is committeding a crim , fans of the original version are the victims. i may be more furious if i were british .
Saw the un-aired pilot knowing nothing about it (like it being British first). Love it. Wish they had kept in L.A. Nontheless.... love Harvey and Mr. Imperioli.
This is the unaired American pilot from when it was a David E. Kelley project and set in L.A. with a different cast except for Jason O'Mara. I agree that it is cringe-inducing! Fortunately, Kelley dropped out, the show was relocated to NYC, and quintessential New York actors Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli came on board. It premiered this week and was smart, serious, and moving, with a cool 70s film vibe (think All the President's Men), and the Bowie song among others.
Thank goodness they scrapped this version. I agree, Mary Shelley, the remake with O'Mara and Keitel was far better. Not quite as good as the original but still up there as one of the best premières of the season. They also credited Graham, Pharoah and Jordan, which I thought was good.
Rename it, rename the characters and it would be just, hmm, inspiration. BUT THIS!!? same shot by shot. shame on you! come on, americans, you also can do very good series, so stop stealing them from Europe and UK. Thanks
You mean like how the British remade Outrageous Fortune (Honest), Who's the Boss? (The Upper Hand), Married with Children (Married for Life), Bewitched and, coming soon, Law & Order?
Let's face it, people remake each other's stuff and in the majority of cases, they should leave the originals as they are.
And I agree the Kelley pilot to Life on Mars was a POS.
Exactly. The Bewitched pilot has not aired; it's probably so bad that it will never make the screen. The other British remakes I can think of are Honest (a bad remake of Outrageous Fortune from New Zealand) and Popstars (also ex-New Zealand).
Sorry for the double post but this really sums up why I'm going to hate this show. From Wiki - "The reshoot, in addition to location change, will consist of a rewrite of the script and an overhaul of casting. In accordance with the script changes, the "unsatisfying" ambiguity of Sam's story was removed in favor of a "mythological element" and "deeper mystery"
-puts head through wall-
WHHHHHYYYYY!?!?!? WHAT THE.....!?!?! I'm pretty much seething right now.
That's the consequence of taking something non-American in origin and transposing it to a US setting. Just the same thing which happened to "Ugly Betty" when it was transformed from the Colombian original "Betty La Fea"
Otherwise, they've got a lot of things down right...hmnnn, is that Ed O'Neill I see there?
I hear the legendary Harvey Keitel will be doing his first series-TV role here, so this'll surely be blessed with Method Acting Chops
WHAT THE HELL!?!?!? I...I can't even...I am so mad right now!!! What in the fucking hell is up with the music!?! It looks so damn cheesy it's unreal. Everything is wrong with this! Everything! Why couldn't they have just left the damn thing alone!
I stumbled across life on mars (uk) a few months ago. Can't imagine any one else but Philip Glenister playing Gene or John Simm playing Sam. Guess I'm just going to stick with the British version, I know quality when I see it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ok everybody shut the hell up! I never heard of this show until recently and it looks really good. IM gonna watch it so who cares stupid brits, we like ur style and STOP complaining gosh.
why not watch both, and decide, fairly, whos is better, though really, your version should not exist. we dont remake desperate house wives, my name is earl, why dont we? because they are american, not british, and we respect that, you should do the same.
what ever jackass american came up with the idea to remake our life on mars should be shot at close range, or beaten to death with a spoon. slow and painful, just like watching the american LoM.
I must admit that I'm quite looking forward to seeing this in the UK, but judging from this trailer, perhaps I should keep low expectations. It just looks so...cheap? Corny? I don't know why but somehow I have a funny feeling that this is going to be crap, basically. I bet it won't be a patch on our version.
Still, I'm willing to give it a chance. Never judge a book by it's cover.
Eurgh, bloody awful. This contains all the elements which annoy me about the american shows I've seen over here; everyone is beautiful and/or speaks almost entirely in quips, the colours are saturated it is overly dramatic and not a bit believable. This has none of the charm or soul of the original series and from what I've seen, neither do the characters.
Colm Meaney Could have made a pretty good gene hunt. Not as good as Glenister but still. Having seen the pilot though I can tell you that the whole thing is let down by shoddy writing.
Yet another re-make that loses a lot in translation. Think this is bad? Look at the remake of "Kath and Kim". Another show with the same script but no soul.
Wtf?! Why did they have to make a US version? Its the same storyline by the looks of things! Theres only ONE Gene Hunt and thats Philip Glenister! This American Gene Hunt isnt even a proper Gene Hunt, he punches and kicks like a nonce in this trailer! Why ruin a TV show that is incredible and try to continue what has been deliberately ended by the producers so that it doesn't get spoiled? I demand an explanation!!!!!!! Whats next, Doctor Who? I bloody hope not!!!
This is a bad joke right? Another classic British raped for an "American Audience". I really wish your TV networks would give you more credit. If you want my advice, you'll watch the original, it simply cannot be bettered, particularly not by this pile of crap.
Does America have no original ideas? Apparently not. Not enough brain cells I think. They've ruined it now, mind you, they ruin every British television show and song. See the Jonas brothers cover of year 3000. Sickening. Anyway yes, the whole thing looks like shit. I hope the creator of this gets a beating.
Lol i thought it was a parody at first. Plus why are they calling it Life On Mars? The original series title was meant to be a reference to famous David Bowie song of the era but somehow i doubt this show is going to have any kind of cultural references in regards to David Bowie surely it should have a new name.
Oh God, they aren't really making that are they? What the hell are they thinking? God damn Americans. They keep doing this and it's always shite. Was it me, or did the voiceover make it about fifty billion times worse?
Well fucking said luke! You stupid american cunts you cant let anyone have fucking anything! you take things and twist it into some pathetic bullshit!!! i am fucking disgusted
you stupid bastards why do this try and copy life on mars its pathetic you always take our shows and make em look stupid whoever made this i hope they die a slow painful death
What is it with the Yanks and stealing good British TV shows and making crappy American versions,if a show is that good then whats wrong with showing its original British counterpart, you know a show can be good with out being American....oh yea I forgot, they have to use other countrys ideas because their own shows are crap, they are even doing the same thing with Australian shows now...America please just show the originals!
oh my. hell how can they ruin something brilliant. they cheesed it up with predictable gags and cheesy lines "maybe your here to make a difference". sorry but if you enjoy intelligent well written shows watch the uk one. if you need things dumbed down to understand watch this.
even the trailer for this is terrible, save your self the time and watch the origional and great John Simm and Philip Glenister, why did they remake it, why!!
I think this looks good. Most of the naysayers on here are a bunch of embittered whiny British dudes. Shut up. As for me, I've never seen the british version, but their accents are annoying sometimes so I'd rather give the American one a shot.
Honestly man, I'm american too. watch the british trailer's for the show then come back and watch this. Which would you rather watch then? I'd rather watch the british version.
I'm not American dude, I'm from Australia. I might not bother watching either to be honest, I saw the pilot for this one and thought it was alright, but nothing special. Its not really about which country is better, its about the quality of the show. And as for both of these series, they don't look all that appealing to me. A time travelling cop? Its a slightly different twist on an already overpopulated genre.
I might in the summer - I can't be bothered to check out a new TV series right now (as in one I haven't seen before). And for that dude who said I am American, you're wrong, I'm from Australia, so I am not biased to either series. Chances are I won't bother watching either one.
I too think it's kind of unfortunate that the British version of the show couldn't find a US market, but the reasons go beyond just a difference in accents. I torrented the first episode of the original and watched it, and there a lot of things specific to Britain that Americans might not get. For instance, I had to look up terms like DI, DCI, WPC, etc., as I was watching the show.
Great show though. I'll torrent the rest of it and check it out when I have some free time.
The irony is that WPC was not even a term used in British policing in 1973. (It would have been PW, literally, Police Woman.) But given the resolution of the show the error was understandable.
Yeah, but that's just it. The US puts out about a hundred times the TV shows and films that Britain does, and you import a lot of them. I suppose this has been true since the early days of cinema/TV. So your exposure to American culture is a lot more substantial than ours is to British culture. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it is.
Yea true. I remember hearing the US release of Lock Stock had to have subtitles which i found amusing. every so often i still get caught out on some American terms though, but i get the gist of it so it still works.
Theatrical release? No, it didn't have subtitles--not when I saw it, anyway... even Billy Elliot and Trainspotting, where the accents are thick as mud, didn't have subtitles.
But also keep in mind that the learning curve for American accents is probably substantially less. We have one major accent and maybe two (nearly dead) secondary ones. British accents and dialects seem to vary widely from town to town and street to street, with no observable standard.
we watch all your american shows, why cant you watch ours, and we can share and embrace each others culture, isnt that a great thought for the two world leaders?
to me it is, clearly, not to you americans, its not like you fixed our show, you just remade it, pointlessly, and i feel insulted.
americans tend to believe all brits are upper class, when the vast majority of people are working class, and the next majority is middle class. they also see to think we have only one accent(british), when we have many, scouse, mackem, geordie, cockney. we have been made into steryotypes, atleast for americans, we understand your culture, ecause we watch your tv shows, if you watched ours, you could understand us a lot better. there is no point in remaking life on mars, that is my point .
Fuck off! Nothing will ever compare to ashes to ashes and life on mars. Especially this American shit. It's practically blasphemy

Oh no! This is awful!!! Who is that man pretending to be Philip Glenister? How dare he! Why was there any need to remake a perfect program?

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH
Watch the original, and best, british bbc version.

Some American TV could still be mistaken for something from 1994.
rossrobert 3 years ago
bad enough its american,
does it even play life on mars in it?

does Michael impirio (christopher from soprano's) play anyone on life on mars?

shit compared to UK one.

i can't believe it!! what did ABC do??
i don't want to use the word "Americans". i don't think american people have anything to do with the awful things .they didn't vote or elect ABC to remake the show.ABC is committeding a crim , fans of the original version are the victims. i may be more furious if i were british .

I'm glad they didn't go with the L.A. thing... this "trailer" looks awful. The actual show shot in NY is sooo much better.
BigMikeATL1977 3 years ago
Saw the un-aired pilot knowing nothing about it (like it being British first). Love it. Wish they had kept in L.A. Nontheless.... love Harvey and Mr. Imperioli.
jhjenn 3 years ago
I prefer the acting in the NY one to the LA one personally. There seems to be a lot more money thrown at the NY one as well.

I can't stand the narrator, he sounds really patronising. "Sam Tyler is STILL a cop".

ForeverSilver 3 years ago
This is the unaired American pilot from when it was a David E. Kelley project and set in L.A. with a different cast except for Jason O'Mara. I agree that it is cringe-inducing! Fortunately, Kelley dropped out, the show was relocated to NYC, and quintessential New York actors Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli came on board. It premiered this week and was smart, serious, and moving, with a cool 70s film vibe (think All the President's Men), and the Bowie song among others.
maryshelley1 3 years ago 4
Thank goodness they scrapped this version. I agree, Mary Shelley, the remake with O'Mara and Keitel was far better. Not quite as good as the original but still up there as one of the best premières of the season. They also credited Graham, Pharoah and Jordan, which I thought was good.

Američani, ste fakt kreténi!
Rename it, rename the characters and it would be just, hmm, inspiration. BUT THIS!!? same shot by shot. shame on you! come on, americans, you also can do very good series, so stop stealing them from Europe and UK. Thanks

american version looks way good. anyone agree?

Er...no! Just my opinion though.

No it looks like a complete piece of shit its not even funny and there is nothing funny about america in 1973 thats why its a british show.
Why does ameican tv always make a shit version of a good british show. Fuck off american broadcasters
cowlick035 3 years ago
You mean like how the British remade Outrageous Fortune (Honest), Who's the Boss? (The Upper Hand), Married with Children (Married for Life), Bewitched and, coming soon, Law & Order?
Let's face it, people remake each other's stuff and in the majority of cases, they should leave the originals as they are.
And I agree the Kelley pilot to Life on Mars was a POS.
luciremagazine 3 years ago
I have no idea what those shows are other than bewitched lol never knew there was a remake of that XD I don't think I can imagine it.
Maybe coz they were remakes they blew.. eh?
Rawrbecca1992 3 years ago
Exactly. The Bewitched pilot has not aired; it's probably so bad that it will never make the screen. The other British remakes I can think of are Honest (a bad remake of Outrageous Fortune from New Zealand) and Popstars (also ex-New Zealand).
luciremagazine 3 years ago
I thought it was good (esp. the WTC scene), but remember the above trailer was for the scrapped pilot, which might be why there are criticisms here.
luciremagazine 3 years ago
OMG What the hell is that?
It's a pathetic attempt to copy the british version.

I'm pretty much seething right now.
trixiebell62792 3 years ago 2
That's the consequence of taking something non-American in origin and transposing it to a US setting. Just the same thing which happened to "Ugly Betty" when it was transformed from the Colombian original "Betty La Fea"
Otherwise, they've got a lot of things down right...hmnnn, is that Ed O'Neill I see there?
I hear the legendary Harvey Keitel will be doing his first series-TV role here, so this'll surely be blessed with Method Acting Chops

I stumbled across life on mars (uk) a few months ago. Can't imagine any one else but Philip Glenister playing Gene or John Simm playing Sam. Guess I'm just going to stick with the British version, I know quality when I see it.

Ok everybody shut the hell up! I never heard of this show until recently and it looks really good. IM gonna watch it so who cares stupid brits, we like ur style and STOP complaining gosh.
sandwhichcass 3 years ago
This ISN'T our style.
This American version is patronising.
Our version was brilliant because it was funny, original and true to history.
This American version is melodramatic, cheese, we're not 'stupid' brits, we just have taste.
HiSarcasticFantastic 3 years ago 2
why not watch both, and decide, fairly, whos is better, though really, your version should not exist. we dont remake desperate house wives, my name is earl, why dont we? because they are american, not british, and we respect that, you should do the same.
18121814 3 years ago
what ever jackass american came up with the idea to remake our life on mars should be shot at close range, or beaten to death with a spoon. slow and painful, just like watching the american LoM.

thsi looks rubbish!
it can only be set in manchester!!
gene hunt and john simm cant be repelaced!
orangepurplebluepink 3 years ago 5
I must admit that I'm quite looking forward to seeing this in the UK, but judging from this trailer, perhaps I should keep low expectations. It just looks so...cheap? Corny? I don't know why but somehow I have a funny feeling that this is going to be crap, basically. I bet it won't be a patch on our version.
Still, I'm willing to give it a chance. Never judge a book by it's cover.
Ajay2k6 3 years ago
Eurgh, bloody awful. This contains all the elements which annoy me about the american shows I've seen over here; everyone is beautiful and/or speaks almost entirely in quips, the colours are saturated it is overly dramatic and not a bit believable. This has none of the charm or soul of the original series and from what I've seen, neither do the characters.
Annaleden 3 years ago 5
thsi is bad gone bad
1. why the dramatic voice over
2. phillip glenister is the one and only gene hunt
3. john simm can be the one and only sam tylor
angelarowlands 3 years ago 4
Colm Meaney Could have made a pretty good gene hunt. Not as good as Glenister but still. Having seen the pilot though I can tell you that the whole thing is let down by shoddy writing.
pscott90 3 years ago 2
Yet another re-make that loses a lot in translation. Think this is bad? Look at the remake of "Kath and Kim". Another show with the same script but no soul.
olracuk 3 years ago
I bloody hope not!!!
anonimousbloke 3 years ago 3
Bloody wankas they get a perfect brilliant show and turn it into american shite, why not show the original one it not need to be remake.
PrincesGirl 3 years ago 2
This is a bad joke right? Another classic British raped for an "American Audience". I really wish your TV networks would give you more credit. If you want my advice, you'll watch the original, it simply cannot be bettered, particularly not by this pile of crap.
PessimistGas 3 years ago 3
Does America have no original ideas? Apparently not. Not enough brain cells I think. They've ruined it now, mind you, they ruin every British television show and song. See the Jonas brothers cover of year 3000. Sickening. Anyway yes, the whole thing looks like shit. I hope the creator of this gets a beating.
hattiehoneybadger 3 years ago 2
Lol that main character looks like a steroid monkey.
LeCaparzo 3 years ago 3
Lol i thought it was a parody at first. Plus why are they calling it Life On Mars? The original series title was meant to be a reference to famous David Bowie song of the era but somehow i doubt this show is going to have any kind of cultural references in regards to David Bowie surely it should have a new name.
Dwobni 3 years ago 5
Oh God, they aren't really making that are they? What the hell are they thinking? God damn Americans. They keep doing this and it's always shite. Was it me, or did the voiceover make it about fifty billion times worse?

PhantomRogue 3 years ago 2
even the trailer for this is terrible, save your self the time and watch the origional and great John Simm and Philip Glenister, why did they remake it, why!!
amoA07 3 years ago 3
I think this looks good. Most of the naysayers on here are a bunch of embittered whiny British dudes. Shut up. As for me, I've never seen the british version, but their accents are annoying sometimes so I'd rather give the American one a shot.
RichoTB 3 years ago
Watch the original before you make judgment.

Did you know that 2+2=4
mintyspace 3 years ago
Honestly man, I'm american too. watch the british trailer's for the show then come back and watch this. Which would you rather watch then? I'd rather watch the british version.
cornwellius 3 years ago 8
I'm not American dude, I'm from Australia. I might not bother watching either to be honest, I saw the pilot for this one and thought it was alright, but nothing special. Its not really about which country is better, its about the quality of the show. And as for both of these series, they don't look all that appealing to me. A time travelling cop? Its a slightly different twist on an already overpopulated genre.
RichoTB 3 years ago
if you watched the british version, you would know it is not about time-travel at all.
18121814 3 years ago
wow, an honest, pro-brit american, im shocked and impressed.
18121814 3 years ago
Do yourself a favour and watch the British version.
Then you would see why we're all complaining.
It's not worth watching this drivel just because our accents are different.
And as annoying as you might find ours, the voice in this trailer felt like nails down a chalkboard to my ears...
HiSarcasticFantastic 3 years ago
I might in the summer - I can't be bothered to check out a new TV series right now (as in one I haven't seen before). And for that dude who said I am American, you're wrong, I'm from Australia, so I am not biased to either series. Chances are I won't bother watching either one.
RichoTB 3 years ago
I too think it's kind of unfortunate that the British version of the show couldn't find a US market, but the reasons go beyond just a difference in accents. I torrented the first episode of the original and watched it, and there a lot of things specific to Britain that Americans might not get. For instance, I had to look up terms like DI, DCI, WPC, etc., as I was watching the show.
Great show though. I'll torrent the rest of it and check it out when I have some free time.
yorick8080 3 years ago
The irony is that WPC was not even a term used in British policing in 1973. (It would have been PW, literally, Police Woman.) But given the resolution of the show the error was understandable.
luciremagazine 3 years ago
gee, well.. thanks for the spoiler
yorick8080 3 years ago
Ah, but does it spoil it? Watch on—believe me, you won't be disappointed.
luciremagazine 3 years ago
Yea i suppose, but we get loadsa your films and tv over here and we seem to manage with your terminology.
burninator666 3 years ago
Yeah, but that's just it. The US puts out about a hundred times the TV shows and films that Britain does, and you import a lot of them. I suppose this has been true since the early days of cinema/TV. So your exposure to American culture is a lot more substantial than ours is to British culture. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it is.
We do get Doctor Who though.
yorick8080 3 years ago
Yea true. I remember hearing the US release of Lock Stock had to have subtitles which i found amusing. every so often i still get caught out on some American terms though, but i get the gist of it so it still works.
burninator666 3 years ago
Theatrical release? No, it didn't have subtitles--not when I saw it, anyway... even Billy Elliot and Trainspotting, where the accents are thick as mud, didn't have subtitles.
But also keep in mind that the learning curve for American accents is probably substantially less. We have one major accent and maybe two (nearly dead) secondary ones. British accents and dialects seem to vary widely from town to town and street to street, with no observable standard.
yorick8080 3 years ago
I heard Taggart had subtitles in the US, could be an urban myth though.
luciremagazine 3 years ago
we watch all your american shows, why cant you watch ours, and we can share and embrace each others culture, isnt that a great thought for the two world leaders?
to me it is, clearly, not to you americans, its not like you fixed our show, you just remade it, pointlessly, and i feel insulted.
18121814 3 years ago
"You Americans blah blah blah..."
Way to generalize there, buddy.
yorick8080 3 years ago
americans tend to believe all brits are upper class, when the vast majority of people are working class, and the next majority is middle class. they also see to think we have only one accent(british), when we have many, scouse, mackem, geordie, cockney. we have been made into steryotypes, atleast for americans, we understand your culture, ecause we watch your tv shows, if you watched ours, you could understand us a lot better. there is no point in remaking life on mars, that is my point .
18121814 3 years ago
