Officially, Guy Fawkes Night originated as a celebration of Fawkes' capture and the King's deliverance. However, I remember as a child in Newfoundland (a province with a large Irish Catholic presence ), the bonfires being lit to celebrate Fawkes himself and his attempt to blow up Parliament. Freedom truly is a matter of perspective.

@KDALove You're right, some of these guys are being melodramatic, but for the ones who aren't, they get the picture. The US government isn't perfect, it's actually one of the best governments in the world (maybe not #1), but we need to fight for our freedom with words before we lose our freedoms and we must fight for it with crowds and chaos. It's a matter of perspective, if you will.

@KDALove I've heard this argument before but the fact people act so personally insulted by certain laws and lost freedoms is the reason we don't live in a dictatorship. I was stopped taking photos of parliament and asked for my ID and why i was taking photos. Some googling told me this isn't a rare occurrence. The fact that more people aren't outraged by having to account for mundane actions is ridiculous.

He is not against Fascism, he is against the very idea of the State as "V" views the Electoral process as a gateway drug to Totalitarianism. It's not really a question of right or left politics. They're both wrong, they're both responsible for the patriot act, the TSA, and unconstitutional wars without congressional approval. These are the things that I, as an american relate to in this movie.
If you want to stop the american movement toward this version of England, you need to stop letting the media tell you who to vote for. Get reacquainted with the constitution and raise hell when your leaders violate it.

Officially, Guy Fawkes Night originated as a celebration of Fawkes' capture and the King's deliverance. However, I remember as a child in Newfoundland (a province with a large Irish Catholic presence ), the bonfires being lit to celebrate Fawkes himself and his attempt to blow up Parliament. Freedom truly is a matter of perspective.

Something that always confused me:
Why doesn't V just point out the crimes of the government? He wants the people's support and so telling them about how the government abused homosexuals, amongst other people, and were responsible for numerous other illegal actions may well have encouraged people to rise up.
I liked this scene but felt that it was unnatural in content - after all, if you were in his position would you try to appeal to people with complex language rather than horrific facts?

The Republican party has changed into some kind of strange monster these days, but traditionally they believe in small government with little influence in peoples lives. Media and tradition generated Ignorance and hate block personal freedoms, and everything in the government and society is controlled by the elite. Look at how it works: Owning Money breeds you more money, its exponential. Its a recipe for inequity. Also, many things we can do now were impossible to do when the constitution is grafted. Healthcare and medicine were fantasy. We need to modernize and keep up with the times.
