note to those using extra hot peppers in their chili: WEAR PLASTIC GLOVES when cutting and handling them, so you will not have to worry about "burning" your fingers.
Yes, i see you have a new best internet buddy....sniff..
it's OK to break my heart but it was smashed already when you jumped on it the first time..... no need to jump on it with biker boots 5 more times.... i got it, OK? :-((
It needs more to get rid of me!! I made a similar chili with Zucchini instead of 'shrooms for 'da boyz' at work and the loved it!
Karol, you should be carefull when you say "gluten free" because that beer you poured in there contains barley which is a gluten. My father has celiac disease and if he was to eat this chili thinking it was gluten free he could become very sick. Any trace of wheat, barley or rye affects him. Thanks.
Great video! You guys work well together! Very funny banter and a chill attitude makes for a great show. I will definitely be trying this....maybe even tonight! :Þ
I hate squid ink flavour, not to say its look, awfull... and I suposse they need to kill the squids to get the ink from their ink bladder, i guess they don't ink the squids just like they do with cow's breasts!
I make a similar recipe to this, I don't mix the two kinds of beans, but it is a very nice idea, so I think yours is better cause you add a lot of flavour.
@Fancylooks Thanks, Fancylooks! I have only ever had pasta flavored with squid ink and I didn't really notice much of anything, but the idea of it did kind of gross me out. Is it used much in Spanish cuisine?
I hope you try this recipe. We had a great time making it and then eating it. :)
@hilahcooking It shows in the video that you really had a great time, I believe you.
In Spanish Cuisine we don't use ink squid a lot, but it is quite common to see a dish using it in the restaurants, cooked with squid rings and the ink and boiled rice. I can't eat that, even the smell is not nice for me. My mother really likes it though. Aggggh!
@hilahcooking Squid Ink has a slight salty, bitter, and oily taste with little hints from the sea - I don't think I've had anything quite like it! Although it makes the dish look a bit freaky, it's not overpowering and adds a nice subtle flavor. Haha - now my mouth is watering!!!
Can spot the vegan a mile away. They all look like they've just escaped a concentrated camp. Carnivorous women tend to have more muscle mass than vegan men.
This looks like a GREAT recipe. I always like using fresh ingredients whenever I can, and I also always use dried beans instead of canned, because you KNOW what's in them.
Of course, as a carnivore, I see this brought to perfection by the addition of a pound of ground round. Balanced with another tablespoon of chili powder. LOL
I think Carl was wrong (j/k). Whole beer is perfect in a Chili. I always add a while beer. Just let it slowly simmer until its all good :) Hilah rocks because she can cook, puts on a great show and has a great sense of humor. All the things needed for a great cooking show :)
Squid Ink I think is harvested from the squid sold in markets cleaned and gutted. They take the sac and collect the ink I can be mistaken though. I don't think it's harvested from teh live animal.
I think you seriously have something here with your show concept. I would really like to see you get on Food Network. I have been telling my friends about your channel and website. Maybe I can help turn up more of a following.

You might want to consider toning down the language to make this family-friendly...I'm sure many would appreciate it. Thanks!

@hilahcooking alcohol will evaporate straight out
Dejan187 3 months ago
@Parsalsa erm you do know that the alcohol from the beer cooks out right? I promise it wont get your kids drunk.
KithkinWillowblades 7 months ago
@Parsalsa the alcohol will cook out of the chili if cooked long enough and a high heat. So, cook it until it starts to bubble and you're fine.
jasonbroaddus 4 months ago
@Parsalsa
Don't worry about adding the beer.
The heat cooks all the alcohol away !

Hi,
a vegan Chili is great! Like every Chili i think it tastes even better the next day!
Did your girlfriend/boyfriend drop you? Make yourself some spicy Chili!
it warms your belly and your heart and soul! :-)
btw. german beer is brewed following the 'purity laws of 1516' (the Reinheitsgebot) it allows only water, malts, hops and yeast
I think a dark malty beer is recommended...in the chili and with it ;-)
don't mess with Texas if it comes to chili :-))
