  • SR-556 is really good at their craft.

  • I heard many of the parts are not mil-spec. Maybe it would be better at that price point to get an MK series from PWS instead?

  • I just bought mine about two weeks ago. I absolutely love it. Put 300 rounds through it the first time I shot it, Lake City 5.56mm no issues whatsoever. Good gun.

  • looks like an amazing rifle, saving up for one, just hoping to get it before, god forbid, it gets pulled of the market with so many gun control freaks in office. so does the piston make it more reliable than the ARs and do you have to clean it as often.

  • retails for $1995.00??? I just bought mine for $1309.00 brand new

  • @WLSTOUT looks very ruger,in a scrap ill still take an ak74[thats on topic too, called a comparative guess]

  • To much money for that weapon !

  • Got to 'play' with the new version in 6.8 the other day. Very nice, tight, well put together firearm. Like 'beer' said the MSRP is 2k but you can get them for about 1400. I am certainly saving my pennies!! The 6.8 will work excellently for hogs here in TX.

  • 3 different asshole sizes? That's a nice touch

  • @CaptainPicardX As far as I know it most shoot both... Not sure... You can shoot 223 with a 556 but cant shoot 556 with 223... Next time I talk to StagArms Ill ask them... If what you are saying is true then it is indeed BS...

  • the only thing that i've found that this rifle needs is a better triger system.

  • @dotsonkid Watch this video to stop tilt...

  • Do anyone knows how Ruger Sr 6.8 stacks up against Barrett rec7 chambered in 6.8 ?

  • Ruger is a really nice dependable brand but you can't put Barrett and Ruger into the same catagory. That's like comparing toyota and Mercedes. Barrett wins hands down.

  • Damn, really nice, probably illegal in the People's Republic of California though.

  • I need to get one of these bad ass motherfuckers to fight the NWO.

  • i really want one of these!

  • I heard Ak's cost 200 bucks. And 20 in africa.

  • @hhhhhhyy

I heard people who comment on off topic things in vids are idiots

  • @GunWebsites lol... I think some people do that because they might be able to get info and or help from other like minded people... It's like I always say... "Let's all learn from each other"... Joe Tactical

  • @GunWebsites What does he meen" a monolithic design " ?

  • @zeno57

thats the term for a one piece rail from the upper receiver through the handguards

  • @GunWebsites now thats a great response, and on topic, damn thats good stuff!!!!!!!!!!

  • @GunWebsites LMAO!

  • @hhhhhhyy actually, aks cost atleast 360 bucks

  • @hhhhhhyy

    *facepalm*

  • OMG! MSRP $1,995. I have to admit its got alot of eye candy. Honestly i do like the piston design but I will just buy a upper for one of my ARs.

  • @s3import The ruger kinda sucks because the say you can not or should not take the 4rail off to clean the piston rod... "Self cleanning" thats crap... I have the Stag Model8L and it is the better bang for the buck. I have a few videos showing it... Most/all these piston ARs do and will have carrier tilt at some point... Watch my video to stop tilt...

  • @ 0:13 asshole sizes!? well maybe thats a good idea, a gun should be able to tell how big of an asshole is shooting it.

  • eh it's a good gun , but if you take your time and learn you can make a better ar-15 for the same price or less, though for a pre-built ar it's a good bang for the buck build.

  • I love my SR 556, 1000 rounds of fiochii fmj, and no mis fires whatsoever(granted I baby the thing).

  • so basically the affordable american version of the H&K416?or MR556?

  • @steelcurtain656 except with a better piston system.

  • @steelcurtain656 i found this looking for a american version of the mk416..that doesnt cost 3.5 grand

  • sounds really good for the price

  • how reliable is this?

  • @toxicfire83

It's only existed for about a year now.. so too soon to really tell

But seems like most owners really like them

  • @GunWebsites From what I hear, it helps with balancing an optic.

  • @toxicfire83 Realiability is not an issue with any Ruger.

  • @toxicfire83

12,000 rds through mine. cleaned it twice now.

  • @monkey90wd40 ...12K rounds? notice any carrier tilt wear?

  • Has anybody seen one of these rifles go through a mud/sand/water test and fire immediately thereafter?

  • @ferret6677 mini14 will kill you just as dead :) and costs 1/3

  • @labartic Let's be realistic. How many people actually buy an AR to kill anyone dead? I bought one because I couldn't find a bb gun with a range of more than 100yds.

  • @TheCounter005 You have a point. 99% of guys that buy an AR buy them as a target rifle or a hunting rifle and they get cleaned after every use and sit in a safe most of the time. Most civilian users might say they bought it for a defensive gun but will never use if for that role. As for the SR556, it's a real nice rifle. I have several minis and would love to add this to the collection. Ruger's just plain rock!

  • @TheCounter005 lots of people. its one of those things that is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

  • for a few dollars more you can get a lwrc in 6.8 spc.....i think thats a better deal.imo.

  • I don't think 6.8 Remington is as common and available as .223 though.

  • yeah but for the reason i would use a gun like this, i would need 6.8. If i can't actually hunt with it then i can't justifiy actually buying it.

  • Ah, I see. I would use a gun like this for recreational shooting, so I'd want a cheaper, more readily available round. For hunting I'd probably get something like an Remington model 700 in .308 winchester.

  • yeah.....but that gun is boring.....i have one in 270 wsm already. i could see multiple uses for an "AR" gun like one of these, but i would prefer 6.8spc. ive read wonderful things about that round and I've seen people take down some nice sized hogs with it as well. On another note I saw a ruger sr-9 today for the first time in person. Loved it. They had it priced at $449. Seems like quite a deal.

  • Man this makes me want to move back to the 'states. Sweden doesn't take too kindly to owning pistols and assault rifles XD

I'll probably end up getting something like that model 700 I was talking about before.

  • 6.8 is hard to find and its god awful expensive but i would definatley rather shoot that round lol

  • @ObviouslyBoredKid : Like to have a 6.8 I can build one for you !

The 6.8 is easy to build and lots of parts offered .

This month Midway catalog is offering Armalite AR 6.8 barrels for $250 and that is cheap .

  • @Moldovawineimporter i would but i dont even know you lol id send you the money and not get any product

  • @Moldovawineimporter : Just seen your profile and your a little boy that is 16 years old maybe even younger who knows !

Thats is right you would not get any gun from your because your underage to buy a gun in the first place !

Don't build AR's for people unless they are at least 30 years old because I don't want little gang bangers like you shooting up convent stores with an AR I built .

  • if this the shit , then get the gov. contract. sell millions and price will go down...test in combat...heck give it to them for free just to indorce it

  • 1995$ oy

  • to all the people saying how "surprisingly" their m4s have never jammed: facts are facts. the direct impingement system shits where it eats. its much more likely to fail.

  • did he say Gashole? I don't want a gun with three Gasholes!

  • I think I understand why this users comment got a negative rating but it seems to me that a little humor is ok so I give this one a thumbs up; Probably cause I caught the 'gashole' description and also thought it was funny. :)

  • thanks! LOL! I am a Ruger man and have the NRA Mini 14 but can't afford this or else I would own it it has some great reviews

  • Been in the Infantry 4 1/2 years. never had an M-4 jam on me. As long as you clean it it works fine. Even if I had a rifle with a Piston system I'd still clean it just as much. thats just me.

  • I have an M-4 Bushmaster and I lubricate it with TW-25b lubricant and it works fantastic. I discovered the lubricant when I was shooting the .50 cal machine gun in the CH-46E Sea Knight which develops more heat than any Ar-15 or Ak-47. TW-25b is a great lubricant for small weapons.

  • It seems to me the whole issue around keeping an AR lubed has to do with tolerance. I would assume in this market you need chome or stay away from close tolerance which I think AK doesnt have. FYI im an AR fan but will use whatever is available when needed.

  • Sr556 design looks very well thought out. I found the owners manual online and cleaning the gas system is very easy. Great job Ruger, I cannot wait to get mine now.

  • gun is expensive. i say if you want piston over DI go with an ak.

  • Black rifles are too fancy. Ak variants = load and fire. Works every time...

  • it gets soo hot up front they need to put a heat shield on it, i think what colt or something that makes guns for the military should take the piston and move it back closer to the beginning of the barrel, if u can change the gas intake then u dont have to worry about over gassing and ur hand grip would be use as a heat shield and u would be-able to deploy faster in to auction

  • I'm not generally an AR fan, but I've got to admit, this Ruger model is impressive.. and it's piston-driven. My biggest problem with AR's is the DI gas system and the malfunctions/rigorous cleaning that are associated with it.

    Nice job, Ruger!!

  • Oil an AR15 and it won't jam. Hurr.

  • Forget "proper" lubrication.. throw a handful of SAND into the receiver of an AK and it won't jam. Hurr.

DI ARs have a fundamental Achilles heel. You can make all the excuses you want, but it's common knowledge, (and it's gotten some of our troops killed). I do like this Ruger design, though.

  • I also believe we need a better weapon design for our troops but I also like the M16 for its rate of fire, ease of cleaning, and mobility. Seems to me that the SR556 might be a step in the right direction.

  • I don't know about 1400, but it's on sale for $1499 at impact guns. I have seen it in my local for $1550 . I can live with that.

  • MSRP is $2000 you can get one for $1400

  • true, plenty of guys have commented about that

  • you can eh? Who is selling this rifle for $600 less?

  • Go to gunbroker. I have not checked my local shops yet as I will wait till after the new year.

  • This gun is 2000.00 - I'd love to own it, but they've got to come out with a better price point. For 2K I could get 5 AKs, or 4 Mini 14s / KelTek SU16s, or 2 Bushmasters. Don't get me wrong I want this gun, I'd just like it to be more competitively priced.

  • Whats the soft sided case look like?

  • I'll have to take another look

  • Sweet looking AR type rifle. I cannot justify the price tag, but sweet nonetheless.

  • Ruger always seems to put out a good product, or make a good product better.

  • Actually non, both the Daniels Defense and the Ruger came commercial. I have read of a couple of solutions. One being a half spring, and the other a device, can't remember the name, but had seen on several forums. By the By, Just mounted that Aimpoint Comp 3 on it looks AWESOME.

  • Hand guards and stock is rattley, replaced the stock with a Magpul CTR and rubber hand guards. Little wear on the buffer tube, but over all love the gun, getting ready to mount an Aimpoint Comp 3 on it Thursday

  • sounds like a good set up

  • thats a milspec buffer tube right. ctr mil spec or non

  • if im correct, its mil-spec

  • Thats a great price! I got to shoot this last saturday at the outdoor range and there is nothing like an 8 o'clock blast from a 5.56 to start the day , I sighted the EOtech in within 10 rounds and it was dead on from there on. Great rifle -just get one!

  • Got it from "SPortsmans Supply" outside of Pittsburgh for 1470.00 + 15.00 for shipping to my ffl and 35.00 with him so it was a good deal. Love all the extras you get and if you buy any ar you need to get a lula mag loader - these things are sweet! The Troy sights and picatinny rails and handguard are top quality - good job Ruger.

    Barry

  • i saw it on GA for 1300 NIB

  • got mine for 1470.00 - comes in this week!

    Can't wait!!!

  • Sounds good, are you planning to post any videos?

  • how are you getting it for that price???

  • heard this gun might have some problems i dunno, i hope not cause i am liking it. any info on it anyone?

  • check out the replies.. lots of talk about these still, but not enough of them out there for a great impression yet IMO

  • Has it passed for sale in the Republic of Kalifornia?

  • Don't know, I'll ask around

  • yes with fixed mag

  • Good I lover Ruger's. It's not really a fixed magazine. It's detachable with a tool. There's a small hole in the release. It takes a tool (bullet tip or pin) pushed in the hole, an 1/8 of a inch to release the mag.The CA release is referred to as a bullet button. Totally useless, if u ask me. It doesn't seem to reduce crime at all.The bullet button is also incredibly easy to modify ; ) Check out my video on the bullet button.

  • I think its a good deal.

Piston driven, chrome plated, gas adjuster, rails, flip up sight, cool grip, chrome lined barrel, and mag for 1500,

  • Sweet looking AR clone.

  • bought one today for 1400.00 us

awesome gun,but WORSE trigger pull ive felt on a AR rifle in some time!,,but that can be fixed.

  • Very nice very nice...But .223 is dried out...Too expensive of a round...I'm really liking the 7.6x54 right now...Its cheap

  • Interesting, but IMO those two are apples & oranges.. not comparable

The 5.56x45 is soo much smaller and lighter

The firearms that shoot 5.56 are much more modern

And future supply of ammo (in the US) seems more of a sure thing with 5.56

  • Badass round. I like the .308/7.62x51. It used to be expensive but now that 5.56 is skyrocketing it doesn't seem so bad anymore.

  • It is a badass round! i like .308 as well (M1a Socom) is beautiful... I kno that the 7.62x54 isnt comparible to the 5.56...But for myself who has the ability to shoot within my own residence and a lot as well its not so nice having to spend a lot of money on expensive ammo....I dont use my mini 14 on home for home defense i use it for fun and challenging

  • Nice. I wish I didn't have to drive down to a range everytime I go shoot. M1A's are kickass rifles, I checked out some of the Springfield Armory carbines recently. Bit expensive for me at the moment, but someday...

  • my local store sells them at $1600, plus tax

  • esswun.. thanks for the comment, but we remove swears

  • Can you buy other AR-15 models in Switzerland?

  • I have seen one in St Louis, MO for $1559, I am almost ready to buy it.

  • I've only held it the one day, so I'm not ready to comment too much on it..

They are made with quality parts, and it's not as if Ruger just started building firearms..

So far I really like it, but I'll wait until I get to shoot one, and we get some range reports back from other owners

  • An update from an earlier post I've made on the SR-556: Shoots great with an EOTech mounted. Hitting pop cans at 125 yards offhand, every shot, using various bullet weights. Bolt carrier is ALWAYS cool to the touch, even after running a couple of 30 rd mags at very rapid fire. This is a great piece of machinery. Not one jam yet. Only wish Ruger had placed a forward sling point on the rifle, it only has a rear sling swivel, so I had to go out and buy a rail mounted sling swivel.

  • Thanks for the report. So far all positive from owners (excluding price)

I have only seen them at shows so far, I'm waiting to get some trigger time on one already

Good to hear it likes multiple types of ammo too

  • Okay, I picked up my Ruger SR-556 for $1490 plus tax, brand new. It shoots flawlessly, and is the finest AR I've shot thus far in a tactical-style. Rapid-fire, slow-fire, 55-75 gr bullets, it didn't skip a beat. The price will vary depending on which dealer/shop you go to, but remember, $1995 is the MSRP, not the price one normally pays.

  • Good Point !

  • what state do you live in?

  • This show was in Phoenix, Arizona

  • Colorado

  • Good to hear! I'm planning on packing one of these beauties when I move back to the States.

  • nah dude its no way cheap over $2,000, but this weapon is great man the guy who was showing me it says its better than a hk416.

the gun like never jams, that regulator the guy says in the beginning exerts all of the heat out of the barrel so it jams alot less.

its a 5.56 or civilian term is a .223 but same thing. i would recommend this weapon for anybody.

  • He says Retail for $1995

  • i was in a gun store yesterday and this weapon was about $2,200

  • 5.56 has a slightly longer casing as well :)

  • I'm sorry for this stupid question, but i thought that the .223 and the 5.56 were both the same size just different measurements. I might have been mistaken by his word choice.

  • they are very close to the same size, but .223 is loaded to lower pressures and velocities than 5.56x45

    so .. .223 in a 5.56 is OK

but 5.56x45 in a .223(only) would be bad

They both have the same external dimensions..

But military ammo cases are made from thicker brass than commercial cases

    .. hope that helps

  • It looks very nice. But the price tag is ridiculously high for a Ruger. You can buy a SIG-556 SWAT for $10 dollars less and is a way better firearm.

But I will llike to buy one of these Ruger SR-556 if they lower the price to the $1,200-$1,300 price range. This is the first Ar-15 model they make and they need to prove themselves first before going crazy on the price. IMO.

Other than that it looks good, especially with the factory quad-rail and the piston system out of the box.

  • Hard to disagree with those points..

  • I just bought one of these and its a superb piece of hardware. What do you base you assessment of the Sig556 being a way better firearm? Have you compared the two head2head?

I paid $1600 for mine. In line with the cost of similar ARs.

  • The Sig 556 does have a lot of proprietary parts, so it's not really the best comparison

  • Congratulations on your buy man.

    Now to answer your question;

I own a Sig-556 SWAT and it's flawless. It's reputation is 100% good everywhere you check. Plus they've been around longer (the Sig 550's series, I mean). Roger is been around for a while but this is the first AR-15 they make and they haven't prove themselves yet to have an almost $2,000 price tag. There are more, but those should be enough reasons.

  • I wanted a gas piston AR and researched many. There are few to none available for less than $1500. I was seriously considering the LWRC M6A2 for around $2200 with few accessories. I was also strongly considering the SIG 556 too. It is indeed a great firearm. Rightly or wrongly, I trust Ruger's tradition of producing excellent guns. Thus far the new toy is meeting/exceeding expectations.

  • Like I said before,it looks very good and like an awesome firearm. I will like to buy 1 one day when if they lower their price tag. Im glad you are having fun with your gun. Nice...

  • Will they be selling the upper? I have a stripped lower that I am building and having the 5.56 chamber and piston would be pretty sweet.

  • have not heard anything about the uppers only yet

  • Yeah I just checked their website and there was nothing about selling uppers only. Hopefully in the future they will.

  • I'm a BIG Ruger fan but for what it is, an AR15, its expensive

  • I heard somewhere, and I could be wrong. But if you live in Prescott Arizona. Where the Ruger Headquarters is. You'll get a discount of the original price. I could be wrong. But I heard it from somewhere. Probably wrong.

  • Dang that would be nice.. I wonder if it is true

  • My bad. Their headquarters is not in Prescott Arizona. I just found out it's in somewhere in Conetticut.

  • so when are they coming out?

  • I cut him off as he was saying "We are hoping to ship June 1st"

  • ABOUT TIME RUGER! Hopefully sold around 1600-1800. Can we NOT have a competent piston-AR for $1500 w/NP3 finish? Asking too much? I just have hard time accepting growing number of MSRP$2000 AR's, for what is MEANT to be a liberty tool, at boutique prices. Argh! Inflation! CUT IT OUT Bernake! STOP inflating my DOLLAR! ALL gunowners MUST press UR Congress-turds to sponsor HR1207,FederalReserve Transparency Act of 2009. MUST FIND OUT whom the private FED.Reserve laundered OUR tax dollars to!

  • I seen at the gun store I frequents website, a Davidson's distributor, selling the Ruger SR-556 for $1,567. Just to let you know a more specific number on what they my sell for!

  • How much for just the upper I wonder.

  • I don't think they are offering it alone yet

  • odd audio cut out and premature end.

  • yea.. my high-tech editing skills are still being developed..
