It is a big issue with music of course and artists put their songs and albums up to be listened to but they need to make a living and recieve money from the number of downloads. when you pirate that song, they dont make money for your download. that is what is meant in getting robbed. Therefore, it is costing someone a dime: the original owner of said file.

In fact between major movie and recording coorperation on average profits were UP in the past decade, when online piracy became a huge deal. It's on a completely different website, and it tells me to download it! SO I DO! In my eyes, I havent done anything wrong. I will NEVER pay for music unless it's a CD because a CD is a physical thing that I can hold where as music that I put onto my phone or ipod isn't physical, it's information that can be downloaded millions of times
@Flowreach There are plenty of laws that protect nonphysical items. While I understand where you are trying to validate your download, it's still deemed theft. Easy example, say you invite a super awesome car that runs on water. You patient it not so that 1 particular car isn't stolen, but so the whole concept and blue prints are not stolen and recreated. Music, movies, and games taken without consent of the owners of that property, is theft, on a legal level.

coorperations don't actually lose alot of money via online piracy. In fact between major movie and recording coorperation on average profits were UP in the past decade, when online piracy became a huge deal. Long story short, people still buy itunes tracks, ringtones concert tickets etc. the music and movie industries are just scared that people are going to wake up and realize they dont have to. It's on a completely different website, and it tells me to download it! SO I DO! In my eyes, I havent done anything wrong. I will NEVER pay for music unless it's a CD because a CD is a physical thing that I can hold where as music that I put onto my phone or ipod isn't physical, it's information that can be downloaded millions of times

@Flowreach There are plenty of laws that protect nonphysical items. While I understand where you are trying to validate your download, it's still deemed theft. Easy example, say you invite a super awesome car that runs on water. You patient it not so that 1 particular car isn't stolen, but so the whole concept and blue prints are not stolen and recreated. Music, movies, and games taken without consent of the owners of that property, is theft, on a legal level.

The reason the internet is such a good place for distributing music, movies and other media is EXACTLY the same reason the internet is such a thriving environment for piracy.
People are GOING TO SHARE things, its what we as human beings do - the internet simply makes this sharing so much easier because everyone is connected. These bills plan to stifle that connectivity, and in doing so supporting corporations are shooting themselves in the foot.
