The whole idea of M5 power cars is ended on E60 V10. Becouse title "Racing Spirit In a Luxury Sedan" is no longer available. You can get an old E39 540i with bigger 4.4l V8. For me it is a step back. No longer turbos.... BMW and other Mercedes, Audis told us about performance, better fuel economy. wtf? What fuel economy, people who buy this cars are no poor, and give a shit to a economy. I have friend who has a BMW M5 E39 (nothing special), but he never drops the fuel in the tank to the half.
@Mercedes600SEL a smaller engine with more horsepower is a good thing, the engine is lighter then. it's a lot harder to get 580 out of 4.4l than 507 out of 5l. Also, well the new m5 did put more emphasis on fuel economy, it hasn't completely forgotten performance. this m5 gets 80hp more than the old model. That model got 100hp more than the model it succeeded. So it's made just as much of a performance advancement as the old one you champion

The 600 is know for it's twelve cylinders. That's the point. For people who wants to save the earth go with I6 523i or 520d. I don't like what manufacture do with their cars. 5-series now has a size of luxury "7" series back in the years. Golf VI is now not golf, but a middle size car. What the point of universal car, fast, economical, roomy, comfortable, "sporty"? There is not such thing. I have a old Audi S2 for sporty action and Mercedes 600 for comfortable ride. A ultra sport car and a luxury traveller, I buy a McLaren F1 and Bentley Arnage from 1998. Becouse I like Bentley's design from that era. But some people would buy a Mercedes-McLaren SLR. @Mercedes600SEL if not economically, environmentally. Just because you buy an expensive car doesn't mean you can be a douche who doesn't car about anything else. The nomber of cylinders honestly mean nohting, if it's a better what matter does it make, why don't we all drive cars with airplane engines that are V20? It would be stupid. A smaller engine means less weight. Bottom line, it's a better car than before and that's all i care about.

I understand that, and your opinion in the LA for example. That's why most cool cars are not legal in USA. You are wrong, number of cylinders are the most importing thing in a car, especially in a sport car we are talking about. Why? As I was saying I have V12 old Merc, and the smoothness compare to the 500SEL is incomparable. I give you example
For instance the old sport version of Merc W202 (C-class) AMG the M113 4.3l with 306hp. The C43 (the engine only) weight less than C36. 3.6l S6 280hp. The V12 compare to the V8 is a 80-100 kg (220lbs) more, so ifyou had a 80-100hp more from that engine the performance will still be better. 600 - 6.0s to 60, 500 6.7s to 60 - cars are in 82hp diffrence. I understand your point but for sport version the economical should be no matter. In that case we soon drvie ferraris with diesels. Regards.
