  • @e1turko LOL

  • @e1turko Randy Newman would say you are a dick for not knowing that this song was written by Leonard Cohen.

  • No, feel free to be a dick about this. It was written by Cohen. Where on earth did you get the idea that Newman wrote it?@e1turko

  • how can you compare joan's voice to leonard's ????? makes no sense

  • @rfranklinw1 just personal opinion

  • @blueletternote although can not be compared

  • Another magical rendition of this amazing song........ between this version and Judy Collins, it's just beautiful

  • Usually I like originals and I can't explain why I love all the versions of this great piece of poetry.

  • I like this version too...

  • I like Joan Baez's voice in general, and on this song it is very strong. I also happen to like the Neil Diamond version of this song. To me, his is one of the more emotional renderings of the lyrics that I have heard.

  • she subtly changes the second stanza with the word 'kind' ! which takes that blasphemic edge off it; others had to rewrite it a lot more for that

  • she subtly changes the second stanza with the word 'kind' !

  • She has changed the words. What's with the 'She touched you and she moved you and she's kind' stuff?

  • the song was written by Leonard Cohen and he sings it the best. I post this version cause there was no other video of Joan's version on Youtube.

  • I think annahermsen you will find that the original is actually Judy Collins, altho Cohen was the one who wrote the song, This was later adapted into Dutch by Rob Chrispijn, who collaborated with Herman van Veer, who then released the song in 1969, 3 years after Collins had had a hit with it.

As for Joan Baez, I love her voice and songs, but this version just doesnt do it for me, guess I just prefer it to be sung with a gravelly voice :)

  • the original is not from Leonard Cohen!!!! It's from a dutch singer: Herman van Veen!

  • @annahermsen No. Van Veen covered Cohens song two years after its original release.

  • @annahermsen me rompiste el corazón !!! no es una canción de l. cohen??? que depre....

  • love jb

  • Don Mclean

  • I am just discovering Joan Baez after 60 plus years and found I denied myself a real musical treat over the years. I thought Judy Collins nailed this song, but Joan Baez took it to the next level.

  • Grande Dame.

  • blueletternote: Thank you. Joan Baez's cover of " Suzanne" has always been my favorite. You've given me a smile and a tear.

  • brilliant

  • lovely

  • beautiful cover,great voice!

  • Joan, Leonard, Bob, Don

  • @dudabraga Don?

  • joan baez is even more sublime than in rhe early 60s. she and leonard cohen are

both full of sap in old age. to remain true

to yourself and grow deeper as you grow older is the holy grail of spirituality not some new age yogi ballet dance fakery.

we all die but we dont have to spend our

later years wishing in vain we were young

again. to quote bob dylan ' he that's not

busy being born is busy dying.' he wrote that in his 20s. john lennon would have

been a wise elder as well. ah, st. joan

  • @deja2053 well said

  • bellissima cover...
