  • I love it. Working in the fields will help immigrant laborers 'learn' how to work in the United States and then progress onto other vocations in agriculture and other industries. Right by getting on a bus once a week, being driven out to a field, and picking lettuce under zero supervision and guidance. Is this guy serious??

  • Wizzard033 - why if they are legal they pay their taxes as we do. Go ahead "take" their job. They have families relying on them as well.

  • If they can come across and work for fare wages leagaly let them, but they should pay have heavy taxes removed from their wages before they ever recive it.

  • I've followed this issue very closely for five years and get annoyed by the hyperbole on both sides of the issue. I believe we DO need Ag workers from Mexico--and this clip shows why. I'm 40 and started my work life 25 years ago picking apples for a farmer. Most kids didn't want to pick apples but my family was poor so I had to. I question whether hardly any kids today would do that work. What was true in 1979 for chavez may bot be true today, guys

  • there is no "difficulty" in finding legal field workers, the employers just don't like to be restricted by visa requirements. picking crops is not high-skilled work, getting a new group of workers every few years is not as bad as they make it seem. in fact, many jobs here in the US have relatively significant turn over.

  • "when the farm workers strike and their strike is successful, the employers go to Mexico and have unlimited, unrestricted use of illegal alien strikebreakers to break the strike. And, for over 30 years, the INS has looked the other way and assisted in the strikebreaking." Cesar Chavez - U.S. Senate testimony, 1979

  • "I do not remember one single instance in 30 years where the INS has removed strikebreakers." "The employers use professional smugglers to recruit and transport human contraband across the Mexican border for the specific act of strikebreaking" Ctd. -->

  • there would be no "spike" in food prices. the cost of labor is a fraction of the total costs agribusiness spends. they could be paying decent wages, even with benefits, but they prefer cheap workers who will never complain, cause if they do, they can just threaten them with deportation.

  • get this...i challenge anyone white people or mexican Americans to apply for a job in the fields, they won't hire you cause they want slaves people that if they get hurt the just send back it's not that they dont complian its that they cant ! in Az i try'd this and it is down right slavery..they wont even look at an American for the job even if you say the pay will be ok and its not that bad at that !

  • He said "reform" is critical to da future of agiculture. he failed to mention that its also critical to his above margin profits. They should get a decent wage and some type of health care. only beasts can be unsimppathic.

  • HI your An IDIOT!!

  • so are you;)

  • I've lived in the Valley my entire life and grew up watching my father and other farmers fight the same situation. The immigration issue is much more of a hot topic than people like to acknowledge. Great video!

  • That's a flaw in the Business Plan, not American Laws! Why should we change the Laws, because they pussy-footed around a big responsibility and decision in a Business Plan! There are ways to get around it, but ulitimately it won't generate "as much" profit and that makes him mad! Not our problem!

  • What exactly do you mean by a flaw in the Business Plan?

The video addresses the fact that pro-immigration groups have consistenly argued, which is that there are certain jobs that legal immigrants just won't take.

Anti-immigrant groups counter that arguement by stating that those jobs would be taken by legal workers if the employer just paid a decent wage.

  • However, current immigration laws place many employers in a bind. The bind is created because even if the employer genuinely wants to hire only legal workers and wants to pay better wages, to do so would place them at disadvantage to their competitors who have no problem in hiring illegal workers.

  • One of the side effects to a fix on the illegal immigration front, that most Americans have not considered, is how the legalization and guest worker program may potentially lead to a spike in food prices and other consumer goods which are heavily dependent on cheap immigrant labor.

  • I understand, but if ALL businesses were forced to employ legal citezens, then there wouldn't be a problem with competition! Besides, the obvious price increase for labor! The businesses would be forced to find new ways of streamlining the method in which they do what they do!

  • Right, and the cost would be passed on to everyone which would be higher than the gasoline hike everyone was crying about.

  • They should implement a Working Visa(which is already being done), that allows them to work there legally! They could try to get the workers that are already working, one of those visas. This way, no one loses! From what I've heard, they want to make money and head back to mexico! So, this solution is a win win!

  • wait they are legal and its hard to find them

  • The employer is trying to hire legal workers, but he reports that it is difficult to find legal workers willing to perform the jobs he offers. He reports not being able to maximize his lettuce harvest operation because of the lack of legal immigrant labor.

  • so all those people are legal or illegal

  • Excellent video. Thoughtful and well produced, this adds a lot to the immigration debate. Thank you.

  • i think its suck! hee heeh
