  • Good old sony not the high quality it used to be...the tubes go bad. Just open the back and turn up the screen control. you'll see a large square black box with 2 adjustments....one focus and other screen. This is the high voltage transformer...if you scared use a screwdriver but I have never gotten a shock there...

  • @whiskeyify I wouldn't be so sure. I have two Dell branded Trintron computer monitors and they are still chugging along and strong. Only issues I've had with them is the screens will gradually get brighter and brighter. I do have access to software to keep the screens down and looking excellent. ;)

  • @mrlichenstein Sony tv's built around 1995 had tube problems. The picture will start flashing off and on. We used to go out to customer's homes and adjust the screen control on the back but it's just a temporary fix.

I don't know if Sony monitors have this problem but sony tv's do. Used to manage a tv repair shop.

  • @whiskeyify As far as I know my monitors don't have bad tubes. They get bright because a major bug in the firmware for the monitors. The computer monitors made between 2000-2002 suffer from it. The firmware is designed to compensate for the aging of the tubes and it works quite well. Unfortunately, it also increases the G2 voltage after every adjustment and this increase in the voltage results in a brighter screen. So far I've had to adjust my monitors twice and it's almost time for another.

  • @mrlichenstein didn't know that...thanks for the info...I'm now 62 years old and have been messing around with electronics a long time but learn something more everyday.

  • I remember that hudge Trinitron, It would always over heat!!! I think that old TV had tubes. My one was like 1993 model or older.

  • my sony 35'' trinitron wont come on or say a word what could it be ? or should i just toss it and save the $80 service fee to look at it help!

  • Remove the screws holding the back of the TV on

Once the back cover is off find the red lead coming from the tube itself and following it to a circuit board called the G2

If you look closely, there are 2 plastic screws each labeled "SCREEN" of "CREEP"; and the other is labeled "FOCUS"

The one labeled "SCREEN" or "CREEP" is the one you want to adjust. Turn it just a hair clockwise (maybe a little more depending on the severity of the problem) until you see a picture. ;-)

  • I HAVE THE SAME PROBLE WITH MINES

HOW CAN I FIX THIS PROBLEM?

  • @vasquez123100 Unplug It And Leave It Unpluged All Night I Had The Same Problem On My KV32S40

  • @TheNascarfan14 yeah ....

    i alredy trew it away

    but thanks any way

  • It's a SONY. That's the problem.

Sonies have a "false front", where the outward appearance, as well as excellent picture and sound quality make it look like a high-end set. In reality, it's built with sub-par construction, and low-quality parts. Sony has always ranked high in initial quality, near the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to reliability.

  • Mine does this I am just going to go and buy an LCD. But not Sony probably toshiba or panasonic

  • @Sprafikk no hdmi in those years... i never seen an hdmi port in an old CRT before but there are probably some giant CRT capable of hdmi or 720p

  • there are so many problems with these tvs and as your are aware lcd prices are reasonable now

these tvs ran well for years and the tubes are starting to go dim. this one may have a bunch of broken loose ground connections although it looks like a vertical problem power supplies were common as is the crt socket cap

  • horizontal trouble, chek 5 volt,or reesoldering high voltage on the power suply fly back outputs, regulators and ic vertical..sony in this models the pictures failures kv,s chassis and oters..tanks

  • pcm transistors

  • Your picture tube is in short, you need to bridge the BIAS circuit or use a Rejuvenator in order to remove the short.

  • mine start doing that a couple of months ago and i had it since 1999 now it doesn't want to come on.

  • i got same problem... So i'll check the sodering cable hope thats the only problem.

  • has happened twice to me, with a similar model; unplugged it for 15 minutes and started working like new...but yes get a new one, lol

  • it gets slower every year. The KV-32FS10 had the same problem, but works nicely.

  • Your problem is most likely a weak picture tube.

What's happening is that your TV's AKB circuit (Auto Kine Bias) is waiting to detect the tube as being warmed up before allowing the video signal to drive the tube.

But, if the tube is weak and worn, then the AKB keeps waiting for the tube to warm up when it can no longer do so.

Another possibility could be a fault with the AKB circuit.

  • Something in the TV is shorting out or fried, and the power supply senses this (overcurrent protection) and shuts down, causing the tweet-tweet sound.

  • possibly a bad flyback had the same problem with 2 of those tvs i owned

  • my moms tv had the same problem, just check all the soder joints and redo them and it should work like new, its a common problem in that model
