One of the reasons why Wal Mart failed in Germany was that we actually value our worker's rights. Wal Mart tried pulling off the same dictatorial shit they do in the USA ("standards of ethics" LOL) - and rightfully got their asses kicked in court. We've got *true* ethical standards, y'know. Good riddance.
@safrapaul Actually there is no reason to be sad. We had a Wal-Mart near here and it was exactly the same as a german chain. When they closed it down a german chain took over and it was still the same. It was not like there was anything more american in that store.
Wal-Mart was never really popular in Germany. There was too much local competition from German chains and Wal-mart really got screwed up by not adapting enough to local customs- the marketing strategy was a disaster, way too "American". And there were complaints about how the employees were treated by the company. Thank God Wal-Mart left the country, we don't need it here.

Anywhere in Germany you'll find acceptance and amazement. German cities, towns and it's country are simply beautiful! You'll find most cities and towns fully cosmopolitan with Africans, Asians, middle easterners, etc. People will be pleased you can converse in German...have no worries. My 1st time landing there I can still remember, "Welcome to Germany"! and it really was soooo special for me.
