  • I want this game! Where can I get it?

  • @jesusportillag Walmart had some new copies in stock last time I checked. Or you could always check eBay, Senor Clueless.

  • This game was amazing for the time! A predecessor to Wolfenstein 3D...it was like playing Wizardry in real time! Great!

  • OMG do you know how amazing and scarey this was to play when it came out and you were 12. Thank you for posting.

  • The doors were the hardest opponents later on.

  • I used to like this gme so much! Brings back memories! For the era, this game was very well done and entertaining!

  • The Blue Diamonds you see on the floor at the outest wall means Magic...

    he he...

Loved this game bought the original and played for hours months or even years...he he....

I bought the Intellivision emulator with all the games :D

  • Greatest game of all time!!!

  • Great vid! Never played this as a kid since we were Atari 2600 freaks (our loss!)...just found it the other day and it's pretty fun. Interesting thing...I thought Dungeons of Daggorath for the CoCo was the first 3D dungeon crawler...but this one beat it by one year. However, I think this game was a lot of inspiration for it. ;)

  • i have went thru all 256 levels twice in one game, You just get to the point were nothing can beat you...and you get all the books, everything platinum..But it is neat to see all the different monsters to fight and take all the potions. i love this game..still

  • @Hagfan789 Man, I thought I was the only one crazy enough to test the byte roll-over thing. Yes, it took me a weekend, but it was oddly soothing. I need to drag out my still-functioning system and play the D&D and TRON games.

  • the buzzer at 1:44 is hilarious!!! WRONG BUTTON PAL!!

  • Nice! I didn't know Intellivision was cabable of that!

  • wasn't there some big pink monster?

  • this is so boring...why can't I turn away?

  • This game spawned an addiction to FPS that never ended. Ima sue somebody!

  • The first first-person shooter! 2 years before Wolfenstein! :)

  • tulihan pelailtua 80 luvulla tosi paljon,on mattelin paras peli....

  • I used to be addicted to this game when I was a kid...would play it for hours on end

  • This video just brought back crazy memories. One of my all time favorite games.

  • This is probably one of my favorite games on the Intellivision, and I think I not only still have my copy of the game, but also the box, instructions and overlays for it. I've also got the adapter to hook up my Intellivision to newer TVs.

I would really love an iPhone version of this game.

  • I remember this game when I was a kid, I wonder if this could be considered the first FPS, lol, they did alot for so little technology, like Oblivion before there was an Oblivion

  • Comment removed

  • How many hours did I play this in 1985? Best Intellivision game. Remember the first time you encountered a "special door"? Are there any new sims on this that are playable?

  • This is the genesis of first person shooters.

I remember getting the x-ray glasses and throwing thunderbolts!

  • You should be fighting the monsters and resting you wimp, thats the way to win!!

  • Groove is in the heart

  • I played this with mates and along with Atari 2600 Adventure it remains still a favourite to revisit

  • God damn I love dungeon crawls.

  • You have to use the 'rest' button to regain your health. Sometimes if you rest after a battle your maximum health will go up permanently.

  • Love this game! Love the sounds of dying & being scared by the monsters. Played this for hours as a kid before my parents would make me shut off the Intell and go outside and play. Would be great to see this remade in a updated PC version, yes I know there are newer and better dungeon games now but Treasure of Tarmin holds dear to my heart.

Helpful hint for this game: instead of turning around 360 degrees to exit a door you just entered, its much easier & faster to press the 'retreat' button.

  • @ericdlayne I hear you. Something abuot hearing the sounds of your childhood. I had an Intelivision too.Me and my frineds liked Sea Battle.

  • i remember this game from the early 80s. Classic.

  • I may post a 100% playthrough of this game for you all... This player never recovered health nor picked up the 15/0 bow in level 2 when given the opportunity, keeping the 9/0 instead.

  • This game was so so so good.

  • I never like that game, I sucked at it and got lost. I liked the first one better, Cloudy Mountain.

I want to see someone beat treasure of Tarmin.

  • Gods, this game gave me nightmares for so long when I was a kid. XD Still have my copy though, an excellent game! Thank you for posting this!

  • My sister and I went on the advanced level. We kept the machine on for 3-4 weeks straight. We wanted to get to triple digit levels (Avoiding killing the Minotaur). We hit level 99 and the game just rolled back to Level 00 again.. It pissed us off. We were masters at the games though. Best Dungeon crawler ever! It really made the Intellivision stand out compared to the other consoles

  • Wrong, your only at level 100. Even though the INTV shows 2 digits on the screen for the level, there are two hexi-decimal characters for the actual level count, making it 256 levels before resetting. Meaning 99>00 ... 99>00 ... 56>1

  • One of first first person view game :-)

  • Yeah lol, before Wolf 3D and Catacombs, there was this.

  • So confusing

  • Is this the first RPG for a home console? I always thought it might be. Remember no saving? Me and my dad would have to stay up all night and leave it on until the next day to beat it. I wish this vid showed the last boss, that yellow, Dragon face, human body, guy. At least thats what I imagined he was.

  • Man, anyone who like this game should be playing Tower of Doom for the Intellivision, what a great game! It is similar to the Treasure of Tarmin, but plays a lot like Diablo having an inventory screen you can thumb through with an icon.

Though the D&D games were epic, Tower of Doom id have to say is one of the best dungeon crawlers, and probably paved the way for games like Diablo.

  • I wouldn't rest until I had Platinum everything and all three Magic Books. (see through walls..turn items to Platinum, and um..teleport, I think it was.)

It's been a long time, my Intellivision is in storage though it DOES work..

  • You are right, the light blue was the teleport, with the purple and pink books being the platinum/ and "sight beyond sight"

  • nice intro

  • Thanks for posting! I spent many happy hours and hours playing this as a kid!!

  • Me too!!!!!

  • how did that clicking sound not drive us nuts back in 1980-whatever? I loved this game!

  • Rest after you fight!!!!!!!! And get armor before you go down the stairs!!

  • i is hard to tell where the heck you are!

  • i want this so bad

  • i love everything about this game! especially the sound effects haha. WOOOOooooo dead...

  • Definitly the best Intellivision game made

  • Hehe, still playing this game. But you forgot to push the "8" after fighting in order to get back your full defenses.

  • The rest key. So very important.

  • I noticed that too..I haven't played that level yet but evertime when I finished an attack, I usually rest.

  • If he would have rested, he would have been above 12 war hp and could have killed the second grey skeleton at the end.

  • i have some very fond memories of playing this game with a friend. he controlled the movement, while it was my job to mess with inventory and fight.

so many times we would get far into the game only to be killed by a door....

as said by others this game was way ahead of its time

  • The first time my brother and I killed a door was glorious.

  • That was a great game!

I hone my spacial awareness at a young age while playing this.

In this video, I wonder why the player didn't rest. He had plenty of food.

  • I downloaded an intellivision emulator but I haven't used it for some reason. It's funny downloading the games. I think they're like 4-8K.

  • Wow! I used to play that game all the time. It was definitely ahead of its time.

  • This game was WAY ahead of it's time, like most other Intellivision games, and far superior to anything from Atari. Too bad most people seem to think NES was the first gaming console invented.

  • I love the sounds. Awesome memories!

  • I actually got past the level with the Minotaur, eventually you get to a level where the is Nothing But Minotaurs. Nothing like telling you, "You Dink, Just KILL the MINOTAUR ALREADY!!" Lol Good times!

  • this brings back memories hehe. Used to play this for days too lol, sucks no saved game. We wouldnt gank the minotaur and tried to get as low as we could in teh dungeon.

  • This is my all time favorite game. I used to play this for hours at a time as a child until news reports started coming out of dysfunctional children killing themselves and their parents. Don't know if any of you remember that, but the Dungeon & Dragon games got the blame. Well, that's all it took and the parents took it away. I did find it again a few years ago and picked up on it like I had never been away. Great game!

  • > This is my all time favorite game. I used

    > to play this for hours at a time as a child

    > until news reports started coming out of

    > dysfunctional children killing themselves

    > and their parents. Don't know if any of you

    > remember that, but the Dungeon & Dragon

    > games got the blame. Well, that's all it

    > took and the parents took it away.

You ought to kill 'em for that.

Just love TV hysteria, it never changes. "Saddam is building a nuclear bomb!!!"

  • hey look the first 1st person veiw game, i like this version, but the graphics are seriously lacking, oh well, thanks for the video

  • This was my favorite on Intellivision. I loved the special books you get and Glowing locked doors.

  • 2:28 ... sounds like mage noises from runescape ... lolz those big thiefs xD

  • Did you know that you can "rest" after beating a monster to up your stats? I think from memory it was number 8 on the keypad of the Intellivision. I used to spend hours playing this game as a kid! And I now own another Intellivision and this game again ;)

  • Phantasy Star on SMS had better dungeons

  • You're kidding, right? The game you mentioned came out about 6-7 years after the Intellivision version. Um, you would hope there would be some improvement by then, eh?

  • This game was awesome, one of my favorites as a kid. WAY ahead of its time in graphics, layout, gameplay, and sound effects (the sounds for when you met enemies or died were great). When compared to most Atari and INTV games (90% of which were crap), its level of complexity was really amazing. Yet I was still able to play it (on "easy") as a five-year-old. The fact that each level was different gave it unheard of replay value. In my opinion the first, and still one of the best, RPGs of all time.

  • This video's being played at the hardest level which is pretty sadistic. I've never come even close to finishing the game on that level. On the easiest one it's an easy thing. Download the emulator Bliss and try it yourselves.

  • Can someone post a full completed game?

  • If it were to run through all of the levels, the video would be hours long.

  • so?

  • @superpcenginegrafx just keep playing it over and over until you hit the warp gates and get lucky haha

  • I loooove this game!!! I used to play it on the Sears Super Video Arcade. From Friday night to Sunday night every weekend. I was hooked.

  • Teleport Book, the book to make all weapons platnium, see through walls books. potions, rings, and that dreaded minator. The wraiths and enchanted doors were the tuffest. 256 levels

  • It was a long time after this game came out that another random dungeon game came out. This one was so far ahead of its time with this and the amount of weapons, items, creatures that could be found. Plus the hidden things. I still dust mine off once in a while.

  • Is there an emulator for Intellivison?

  • That "teek" sound that kept repeating gave me a headache. Game looks pretty decent for 1982 though...

  • I was playing this game on an emulator just last week! It didn't get nearly enough recognition at the time and it's one of my all time favorites. What's cool about it even today is that you can finish it, win or lose, in one session, it's pretty strategic, and you can still die sometimes on the hard level even if you're a really good player. And for 1982? It was sick. The only games of this type that were close to it were Tunnels of Doom for the TI and maybe Telengard for the C64.

  • And Ultima 1

  • Seriously, I want this system and game.

  • I loved how the game randomly generated different levels each time you played it.

  • This game is one of my most favorites of all time. To this day I still play this game over many of the newer offerings. The game is quite challenging(unless you cheat) and it keeps you on your toes. I have this love/hate relationship with the Enchanted Doors that you find. When you first see them, they scare the heck out of you, but then again, if you don't fight them, you don't have as high of a chance of getting the most powerful items in the game.

  • ... I didn't know you could cheat.

  • Fuck, those graphics are better than Super Mario 64.

  • lol my AD&D and AD&D:TOT no longer work in my console, damn

  • I spent HOURS playing this thing. It was way ahead of its time..

The best thing is to get the Books...especially the one that lets you see through walls. Though the "change to platinum" one was handy too.

I think it was nearly a decade before vidgames got better than this: Wolf3D.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this not only the first actual "dungeon crawler" in 3D, but the first free-roaming 3D game ever?

  • Its probably the first free-roaming 3D console game. But you never know what might've been available for some kind of computer in some part of the world back then. Either way, its pretty good for 1982. Even most 16-bit 3D dungeon crawlers didn't animate as you move.

  • @superpcenginegrafx nah, Akalabeth was the first dungeon crawler, back in 1979. That and the first two Ultima games predate this one. Along with Wizardry 1.

This game is more or less just like the Ultima style dungeon crawl. A bit of action along with the exploring. :)

  • @VoyBoyX there were two other ones I can think of "Escape From the Mindmaster" on the 2600 with a supercharger also "Crypts of Chaos" on the 2600 but this D&D game was the best of them all at the time for the console but just for RPG 'Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord' was one of the first on a computer.

  • This game was my favorite! I wish that there was a version of this for the PC. I think that I still have the cartridge somewhere in my parents' attic, although I doubt if it works anymore.

  • There are Intellivision emulators for PC out there.

  • Could you provide a link to the page of someone offering an emulator? Thanks!

  • I loved this game!

  • This was the closest thing to real DnD for one person when it came out. One of the few intellivision games I paid $20 for.

  • Otro de mis juegos favoritos,el único nivel donde no maté al minotauro el mas dificil, era un pelo complicado recordar las armas mas fuertes de acuerdo a los colores o las defensas...pero era tremendo juego!

  • I loved this game. Played it until my eyes were literally watering with fatigue. One of the best titles ever.

  • It was cool to have the evil doors as real bosses that guarded the magic books. Once I learned that you could skip the ToT, I just never picked it up.

  • This is one of my favorite games of all time! My mother and I used to take turns with the levels. We used to play on "easy", but ignore the Minotaur and simply go down to Level 256...cleaning house the entire way. The book that turned war weapons into platinum was the best treasure ever!

  • I used to do that too. I remember that once you dropped down the ladder, all you had to do was head due north or south to get to the ladder for that floor.

The platinum-izing book was cool. The potion that gave you x-ray vision was also cool. I remember that once you got the platinum shield, you were pretty arrow-proof. The ability to go exploring the various levels made this, imo, maybe the the most fascinating of all early 80s home video games.

  • My favourite book was the one that let you warp through walls.

  • I'll be posting a cheat for the game i've discovered on my own, and i've played also past the lvl 256, you start over at lvl 1, but you don't show up on the map either.

  • However many levels the manual says the game has, there are actually more before the game repeats.

  • I bought this at a garage sale when I was 7 or 8. It was too advanced for me but I remember feeling like I was inside a 3D world.

  • COOL !
