  • @mljr1015 diesel power mag and top gear says so! chevy wins... so what now? the super pile of duty is a pile of crap... it says it in the name... i had one and my unfortunate brother in law is stuck with his 06,,cant sell it or trade it so he had to take on another payment with a chevy 2500 hd with 6.0 gas so he cant work. he said it pulled just as good as his 6.0 power joke and no blown head gaskets and bad injector problems that ford dont want to fix.

  • Oh yeah one more thing. Try putting plows on the front of the same trucks or doing serious off roading and see what happens to the IFS. It stands no chance against a straigt axle with manual lock hubs. The IFS may have better articulation but has nowhere near the strength or durability. The Japanese designed duramax may be a little quicker but not worth owning a heavy duty truck with IFS. A japanese designed engine in an american work horse no thanks. Government Motors suck.

  • @usaunited1 well first, GM discontinued building Duramax with izuzu in 2006, this is a 2011 truck, so its not a jap motor. second for those who are not using these trucks to lift and beat to hell off road the IFS does well,and far out preforms a solid axle in ride and handling.FYI not every truck needs a snow plow... as far as your "Government Motors" claim they paid that off a long time a go so it is also. The Allison Transmisson sells the truck itself..

This has been proved over the past 34 years while ford has been number 1 selling truck. This is not a fluke when it is over three decades running.     Look at the ford raptor and the other vehicles in its class (oh wait there are none) it uses the ifs for the very reason of being better for articulating and smoother over rough terrain I am not arguing this fact. What I am saying is the ifs has no business in a heavy duty truck weighing over 4 ton with this kind of torque. You speak of trash talk yet call me a jackass.     I can only imagine what the torque of the dirtymax would do and now my front was not all worn out just weak. I understand trucks have different uses but for my sake ifs just doesnt cut it but to each his own. Actually I used to drive chevy (and fords) until the ifs appeared. After several dissapointments that was it for me. All I know is I build the #1 selling car in america for the past 9 years and drive the #1 selling truck. So in my book that is good enough for me.Good luck 2u

  • @usaunited1 well heres the problem. in STOCK form the Diff off your SFA is going to high center 6 inches before my IFS will... IFS does fine in STOCK form and the driver isn't a drunken buffon. I admit a SFA option on GM would be cool for lifts and big tires, however in stock form for normal use an IFS wins every time...

  • Just what we all need, some jackass with more money than sense pulling 19000 pounds at 60+ MPH That being said, I like this test because it puts comparable trucks together, by that I mean identical powertrain, if you look at a spec sheet with an identical powertrain Ford F350 dooley crewcab and Chevy 3500HD dooley crewcab both with the diesel, 6spd, 3.73:1 gears, the Chevy tows over 1000lbs more than the ford in both 5th wheel and bumper pull, not bad considering the chevy's power deficit

  • if gm would stop the silverado/sierra and make one truck they would own the market in numbers. the duramax hasnt changed displacement and yet it is keeping pace in power. if you look at the number of problems theyve had with the powerstroke compared to the duramax its not even close. also you get the allison with a dmax and you cant even begin to compare competition to it

  • In other words to keep the test even between the two trucks, the Ford would need a 3.31 axel ratio or the chevy would need a 4.10 final drive ratio, which it doesn't have as an option because Chevy's don't use low gearing, which is essential for towing 24,400 pounds. Ford uses stronger steel. Chevy has 36,000 PSI max strength vs the Super Duty's max 50,000 PSI. And 7.3mm thick steel.

  • A decent truck buyer would know how stupid this test really is. The fumble in the rockies stunt is a speed test, and a shitty one at that. The Ford is using a beefier Torqshift tranny geard lower end in this case. At first gear the Chevy has a 3.10 ratio and the ford has a 3.97. Second is Chevy 1.81 and Ford 2.32 drive ratio. In this gearing it's a tractor vs car, the car's going to tow 1000 pounds faster but the Tractor has more power behind it.

    The reason the Cheby is the quickest is because the Ford uses the beefiest tranny with stronger components. Yeah it's a fact. And it's going to eat up yout straight line speed. But according to Pickuptrucks themselves the Super Duty creates a lot more low-end torque. Which is what a hauler really needs. Your sacrificing straight line speed, which is in a HD truck so no one gives a shit, for top end pulling power, and strength.

  • If you read the article they clearly state that the ford and chevy were almost identical weight and equipment. It also states that the Dodge wasn't used because it was at such a disadvantage on this test with it's GCWR and tow rating. This is a great video and the article is even better, these guys who did the test expected the ford to win based on numbers alone. They were genuinely shocked at how bad the Ford compared.

It would not have won but it would of proven them wrong on the weight being over its GCWR cause they are rated at around 17,000 lbs but where i work and 06' model dodge came in hauling logs weighing in over 36,000 lbs, and that is no bull shit i personally saw the numbers when it was on the scale. Oh and the new 2011's have a GCWR of 30,000lbs which is class leading and 800 ft-lbs of torque.

  • @ldecharmoy There are reasons the chevy won and ford declined the challenge. The chev turbo works better at higher altitudes and ford engineers knew that and that's why they declined. Also, on the downhill challenge, the gear ratios are a lot different between the two trucks. Once the brake was applied to the chev once, it downshifted and was able to do so because the rpms wouldnt be too high. The ford however is not able to downshift because of the high rpms it would encounter.

  • @ldecharmoy They didn't do them side by side because they used 1 trailer. The same exact trailer and the same exact load was used in testing both trucks. And, the Chevy won, natch.

  • Did they take into consideration the varying traffic conditions? That's a big deal if they're testing for simply the amount of time to get to the top of the mountain.

  • If your truck has 400hp and 800ft tq and gets smoked by a truck with 397hp and 765ft tq by 2 minutes, thats almost 20% then there is something wrong with your truck and the guys who made it!

  • @schnittz you can keep your IFS and sheet metal frame... i'll keep my fords, solid axles, REAL frame, of course the engine is unproven but the TRUCK is the best you can get, ask anyone who knows anything about trucks.... chevy/gmc if you pretty much want a car that can haul a little bit, dodge if you want the best engine to modify/most reliable engine, and ford if you want a truck that can work its ass off day in and day out

  • @glasseater90 yes i'll keep my tough IFS which has 100% better ride then your back beating junk! IFS got even tougher with 2011 model, fords weak c channel frame don't even come close. I don't need to ask anyone about these trucks since I have a fleet of different brands of trucks, Cummins is a great engine, but with it's current MPG and much lower max towing i'll pass. and sure would stay away from a unproven mexican engine. Gale Banks calls Duramax as best engine to modify.

  • By the way, Why all the Fuss with who's Fastest, All of the new Trucks Perform extremely Well, Ford needs to Focus on What they do Best, be the class leader in Heavy Duty Trucks and let GM do what they do best, build boy racer trucks, that besides for the Duramax (Isuzu) and Allison (Allison) which keep there trucks appealing, are for the most part a Chassis that falls quite short to the Super Duty. Tests have shown in Fit/Finish and Value Ford Trucks still hold a comfortable lead.

  • @Stonemasters11 the 2011 2500 chassis (made by Cosma International) is 700lbs heavier than the prior version, fully boxed and capable of towing more than the F250... 16000lbs vs 14,000 .. Also the new independent suspension (front) has a Gross Axle rating of 6000lbs, same as the Ford...

  • So, I wonder where they got the programmer for, for the D-max? I find it very hard to believe the results were what they were, considering the power numbers are as close as they are. I have to believe the tests are a bit skewed! They should have dropped the trailer weight so the Dodge could have competed also, but then again they probably wouldn`t have liked the results if they let that happen....the Dodge would`ve walked all over them!

  • @dodgeguyz not with only 650lbs of torque... the Cummings has a long way to go to keep up with these two .. Dodge will get their chance to catch up in the next version.

  • you ever get stuck behind a mack truck. i bet the chevy could pull the 30 tons faster right? slow is better in a truck, unless you have a girl truck like an extreme

  • @smileynirvana2 all else being equal slower is weaker... the reason a Mack is slower is it's carrying 80,000lbs with only 1100 to 1200 ft/lb of torque.
