Shaq overpowered other players with his bulk and strength. Ewing could shoot from the outside as well as rebound and block shots. Watching Shaq shoot free throws was painfull and funny at the same time.
I've never been considered a soft guy, but man, when they retired Ewing's number I got a bit teary eyed. I loved that dude man. He fucking spit blood for The Knicks. He gave 150% EVERY night. People criticize him, and for what? Because he never won a championship? Well neither did Miller, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, mostly because of MJ and The Bulls.
So fucking bad I wish The Knicks got one for Patrick. He deserved it! He just needed one more piece. LOL @ 3:12! Classic Starks headbutt LOL!
me personally, i feel that in that era, ewing was overlooked because of guys like hakeem, shaquille, and david robinson... but, when u take the time to look at it, ewing was a monster, and thats that.
Ewing was the most deserving of the 90s players who didnt get a ring because he never had that second great player to back him up. Malone had Stockton. Kemp had Payton. Barkley had that AWESOME Suns team. But Ewing never had that second true great.
educated and talented player..unlike a basketball player acting like a thug on the court. Patrick Ewing is one of the best basketball player of all time!
@ryanr20091 i am not saying that he is the the best of all. i am saying that he's one of the best! hope you understand that.. and Hakeem is my favorite player too.
@ryanr20091 Hakeem dominated every player he was matched up against. Ewing is in the hall of fame for a reason you dumbass. Ewing was a great player Olajuwon was better that's no disgrace.
This is something Lebron will never have: the love of a crowd because you gave your life for their team. Never won a ring, but still a legend and one of the best and most dominant players in the game history.
I'm a Bulls fan but I really love him. He has a heart of a hero. This video made me cry... Mr. Ewing, NBA is not the same without you. You were the best center ever.
he is the reason i love the game of basketball. when i wore his jersey i felt like patrick my defensive game would step up. i would play my heart out cause i know that he would do the same. my hero,my idol, my everything. the greatest knick of all time my dream as a kid was to play for the knicks and help my hero accomplish his task of winning that elusive title and making his career complete with a nba championship!! i will alway love you patrick!!!!!!!!!!!! the greatest knick of all time !
Basically, Reggie kept taunting John Starks and John got so mad that he headbutted Reggie, which got him a sixth foul and he fouled out. Ewing and Oakley were so furious that he was dumb enough to fall for that sucker move!
I was a big Bulls Fan and didnt care too much about the knicks. I remember later in his career when he was playing with those big knee pads and his back had to get iced down all the time. I found a new respect for the knicks and the game of basketball. Since then I have been a knick fan and will never change that good or bad.I wish he would of ended his career as a knick or MSG give him a job on the knicks staff as an asst. Coach. Something.
indeed patrick is the reason i love the game.he put everything into his play.patrick ewing is the standard of what it means to wear a knick uniform.patrick and my brother went to georgetown together.i met him at 10 years old ever since he has and always be my hero.while they are reconstructing the garden just like the united center msg needs a statue of the greatest knick of all-time"at center at 7 feet from georgetown number 33 co captain PATRICK EWING!!!!!!!!" HIS HEART SPOKE THE WORD CHAMPION
@ocsjc because given Ewing was probably the greatest college player in NCAA history, it made him the biggest number1 pick of the decade - hands down - and whoever got number 1 pick was definately going to pick Patrick. The knicks were a battling team at the time and really needed a change in fortune if they were to turn around the franchise. So just the fact that Indiana got number 2 pick was epic for NY. NY and Indiana were the last 2 picks in that lottery for Ewings rights. Watch his video
@fazman52 Pat was up there in the ranks of the greatest NCAA players, but I think it's pretty universal that you'd have to put Lou Alcindor above him. He's not that far behind though. People may have forgotten (well, except for Georgetown people;)) that in college, Ewing was more dominant than Jordan. In the NBA, quite the opposite turned out to be the case.
@gleesocks so what? he is considered one of the best players to have played the game who never won a ring, along with charles barkley, and prince james himself
Pat's my favorite player of all time. We haven't had a leader like him since he got traded. Whole franchise went to shit. Amare might be able to fill the shoes. He showed signs of it earlier this season.
Sucks that Pat never won a ring. Our best shots to win weren't even his fault that we didn't. '94 Riley's dumb ass leaves Starks in to shoot brick after brick. '97 was the fight where important players got suspended just for coming off the bench. We definitely coulda beat the Bulls.
My all-time two favorite pro athletes. Patrick Ewing and Dan Marino. Both hall of fame legends but no championship rings. Sometimes life is just not fair.
Ring or no ring... being a NY Knicks fan during the 90's is something that I'll treasure forever. The passion... the emotion... the diving for loose balls ... the iron-clad defense ... the offensive rebounds. Winning a title would have been nice, but not doing so doesn't make me forget the blood, sweat and tears they shed DAY IN AND DAY OUT.
I watch the Knicks now, and it's like I'm watching a bunch of people that just showed up for a pay check.
@IndyCovaHart nice comment man. I was like in 5th grade and i remember my first jersy was a NV Knicks Ewing Jersey. He was my favorite player and am From LA. LOL. yeah love that 90's team Ewing Starks Mason Oakley . They had good games. To bad Ewing Never got a Ring.
@IndyCovaHart Amen. It's disrespectful that an overpaid, underachiever (Marbury and Mcgrady) have played and wore Starks # 3. When Starks (whose not as talented), busted his ass night in and out for NY in the 90's.
How are the Knicks today? In the Playoffs? They stink! They stink soo bad that I hafta' watch old Ewing videos to remind me that they actually played defense in NYC.It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Rondo is not gunna score alot by driving to the basket. Why double team him then? Now, Allen is thrashing the Knicks with 3 pointers. Ugly, really ugly.
The Knicks gave Hakeem and the Rockets a very tough time in the 94 NBA Finals. It wasn't like the Rockets completely out played the Knicks and ran them clearly out of the arena. I still believe the Knicks could have beaten the Rockets if only they were fortunate enough to get a rematch in 95. It was really MJ and the tough Bulls who posed the most threat to Patrick and the Knicks compared to any other Superstar or playoff rivalry the Knicks had to go through to bring a championship to New York.
nutritionjuice23 ....they should've beaten the Bulls in either 92 or 93. Patrick was at fault for their 92 loss. He had two loses where he scored only 14 and 15 points.
In 93 he played very valiantly....I'd argue he was the best player in that series, he just didn't have a 2nd option as good enough as Pippen who had a monster series to offset MJ's struggles. I'm puzzled why they disbanded XMan and Jackson. If they kept the 92 team they'd have won in 93. Xman owned Pippen in 92 ECSF.
@FuShengAlex Yeah I don't understand why they would break some of that 92 Knick team up. Mark Jackson was taking John Paxon off of the dribble and to the basket every time, especially in game 7 and the X-Man along with Mason, Oakley and Ewing gave the Knicks a lot of defensive toughness at both ends of the floor. X-Man definitely gave Pippen all he could possibly handle in the 92 ECSF.
If only they kept that 92 team together they would've had a much better chance to beat the Bulls in 93.
I love him and always will, and it's so unfortunate that he played at the same time as Jordan and Olajuwon. I don't know how anyone could dislike him. He gave it his all every time on the court and was a tremendous individual player but more importantly a great team player. He embraced the pressure of NY and loved the atmosphere
To all Ewing fans..... the song is the song they picked out for Patrick Ewing retirement night even thou is kinda sad ....always will miss those Knicks Heat rivalry wit Ewing and Mourning .....peace out homey
A nice tribute to a player who gave 100% to the Knicks, for 15 years. Although he never won a championship, it certainly wasn't HIS fault. He left it all on the court, every game.
Pat was a great great player; truly an outstanding hall of famer. And the loyalty of that Knicks team as obviously centered on him. that just shows you that pat brought more than just size, skill, and heart. he even brought the team together.
MJ aint the Only one that stopped him The Greatest Center of all time stopped him in the Finals. He got him at Georgetown and Dream Got him in the Pros. That being said Pats my 2nd fav Center of all time. This is a Heart felt tribute to one of the greatest centers of all time!
It was really unfortunate that Patrick Ewing has never gotten to win a championship and he does have a heart of a champion, I miss the days when we've had so many great athletes in the NBA
Im from Chicago. I hated Patrick in the 90's. Bulls Knicks in the playoffs were classics. I could honestly say i Patrick is the greatest center. The only one that stop him from winning a ring was MJ.
man every one of the best quit or died MJ retired tupac died biggie died eazy e died DR J retired ZEKE retired micheal jackson died dr dre retired patrick ewing retired and more...................................
i will always love patrick ewing. he the true king of new york. as a teenager he taught me the love of the game and i desired to only play to give the championship the he so deserved. I love you patrick you are indeed the greatest nba player ive ever seen bump jordan. i respect him but you had the most heart and you made life a pleasure watching you play the game.ive always have and will be your number #1 fan.
The Mighty Patrick!! What a great player and a great great Knick. I remember the champion Knicks and to me Ewing stands right next to that Hall of Fame starting 5!!
i didnt like the knicks, but damn this guy was a true champion on and off the court, has the heart of a real warrior. sensational player and i really think whilst he played in one of the toughest eras of the game, he was one of the best players of his era.
The Knicks never recovered from losing Ewing. In my opinion he deserved to be acknowledged as one of the 50 greatest. Definitely the best Knick to ever grace the Garden... Or any other arena. Gone but not forgotten, we still miss you 33.
Spanish(Spain) is a European language stupid americans...the US will turn into a brown indian shithole with ugly people like mexico in a few decades lmao fuck u....karma is a bitch
@jusme0910 Yes you are a fanboy otherwise why would you talk about Kobe on a video of Patrick Ewing. nothing here speaks of Kobe and yet you talk about him. =\
@HonoreT35 lol a true statement makes me a fanboy he does play with heart do you disagree if so fine really very few players now play with heart a few who do are kg, paul pierce, noah, wade, rose, deron williams, melo, amare
Ewing was great and deserved a championshup or two. Unfortuately Jordan had a better team, something Ewing did not have, then when it came down to a one on one contest and there was Hakeem the Dream and Hakeem was just too great!
Ewing your a warrior and will always be one fo the greatest centres!
@ChujCiWJedzenie Nobody works harder than Kobe you need to check your facts, the man has been in the finals the last 3 years. Don't lump Kobe with Lebron that dude's a bitch.
@mavenfrankeus Even if I liked David Robinson I can't let you tell this, We had Patrick in NY and no one else could be the man like him for NY. We didn't need nobody else. He may never won a ring but to me he was a real champion no doubt. He has given more than many give to their team, and this is "everything".
We all know that, I mean those who love that team. Thanks to Patrick and the other guys too who fought hard every night ! We love you !
@gsizzles Don't give me that reggie miller crap. people keep saying that stuff but the knicks won half those series so I don't see that as "Destroying"
... jordan... yea, but he did that to everyone
Out of curiousity, what team do you like?
considering since like 1980, only 6 teams have won the tittle... that leaves most franchises "Slumping"
@i see. but that just gives starks a technical. did patrick ewing say like that's not the way to play the game or not the other team gets to shoot free throws and the knicks could lose?

John Stockton, Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, LeBron James. Greatest starting lineup of players that will never win championships. ;)
MichRockHop81108 11 months ago
I gotta admit John Starks BLEW. Game 7, 2/18. Run the offense maybe Patrick Ewing can score.

can we just all agree that willis reed is the best knick? he actually won a championship.

COLT45BANGIN 1 year ago
It was really unfortunate that Patrick Ewing has never gotten to win a championship and he does have a heart of a champion, I miss the days when we've had so many great athletes in the NBA
Doobie1975 1 year ago
Im from Chicago. I hated Patrick in the 90's. Bulls Knicks in the playoffs were classics. I could honestly say i Patrick is the greatest center. The only one that stop him from winning a ring was MJ.

You know Ewing watches this video and goes, "nice cut, but are you kidding me with the music?" Play something a little tougher!

The Mighty Patrick!! What a great player and a great great Knick. I remember the champion Knicks and to me Ewing stands right next to that Hall of Fame starting 5!!
Vstrat0 1 year ago
i didnt like the knicks, but damn this guy was a true champion on and off the court, has the heart of a real warrior. sensational player and i really think whilst he played in one of the toughest eras of the game, he was one of the best players of his era.
fazman52 1 year ago
The Knicks never recovered from losing Ewing. In my opinion he deserved to be acknowledged as one of the 50 greatest. Definitely the best Knick to ever grace the Garden... Or any other arena. Gone but not forgotten, we still miss you 33.

You don't think Kobe doesn't play with Heart really?
Kobe has to be now in his career one of the toughest players especially the best and only closer in the NBA right now.
Hands down and I am not a Kobe fan boy.
jusme0910 1 year ago
@jusme0910 Yes you are a fanboy otherwise why would you talk about Kobe on a video of Patrick Ewing. nothing here speaks of Kobe and yet you talk about him. =\
HonoreT35 1 year ago

MrProphet1978 1 year ago
The Knicks would have needed a David Robinson... Also, the Admiral wouldn't have gone to the Sonics...
mavenfrankeus 1 year ago
@mavenfrankeus Even if I liked David Robinson I can't let you tell this, We had Patrick in NY and no one else could be the man like him for NY. We didn't need nobody else. He may never won a ring but to me he was a real champion no doubt. He has given more than many give to their team, and this is "everything".
We all know that, I mean those who love that team. Thanks to Patrick and the other guys too who fought hard every night ! We love you !

Why was he shouting at Starks?
jgcfc58 1 year ago
@jgcfc58 because john stark head butted reggie miller and that got starks ejected.
Patrick was upset that starks commited a stupid play that got himself ejected because he Knicks needed Starks to win.

@gsizzles Don't give me that reggie miller crap. people keep saying that stuff but the knicks won half those series so I don't see that as "Destroying"
... jordan... yea, but he did that to everyone
Out of curiousity, what team do you like?
considering since like 1980, only 6 teams have won the tittle... that leaves most franchises "Slumping"

why was he mad at john starks

@YawningBoy - he was mad because starks "head-butted" reggie miller
okaforbobcat04 1 year ago
@i see. but that just gives starks a technical. did patrick ewing say like that's not the way to play the game or not the other team gets to shoot free throws and the knicks could lose?
