  • Hi ..how do you turn the fuel up on a Lucas cav pump ??

  • Surely you're going to look into and sort out the bloe by before working the engine even harder?

  • @macspud28 I am pulling the motor in a few days to build it.

  • cool...didn't know you could shut one down that way....will that work on a 5.9 24V too?

  • I really liked that you talked about the heat from the exhaust manifold to the airfilter.

I think there is alot of "tuners" that thinks a filter like yours, mounted right on the turbo like that gives alot of power.

  • Great video my friend after installing that boost elbow that will also clean up a bit of smoke to = more air if you look at video of my motor theres a little blue anodized fitting inbetween my wastegate and turbo same effect as your elbow

  • No propane, use nitrous

  • take a small dremel with a grinding disc and cut a flat head slot in the FRONT side of the idle screw, it will make adjusting the idle screw very easy. and move the nut to the outside towards the front of the truck as well.

  • a VE pump is on a 24valve right?

  • @PAPABEAR0326 No this is a VE, they come on 89-93 12 valves- the VP44 rotary pump is electronic it comes on 98.5-02 24 valves

  • Is it possible to bend the tab instead of trying to turn that idle screw?

  • @edzgarage Not if you want it done the correct way. I think you will have other issues if you bend the tab.

  • After looking at an exploded view of the VE IP i understand why it will runaway. But I don't understand why the fuel solenoid won't kill it. Where does the fuel come from during runaway with the key off? Only runaway I've ever dealt with was due to a blown turbo seal, luckilly i had a fire extinguisher to kill it with.

  • @BigBoy4005 A runaway can occur while turning up the fuel on the VE injection pump, the reason they run away is that the control collar can't move far enough towards the "defuel" end of the plunger (making the spill port area smaller), and the backpressure in the spill port becomes high enough that engine speed goes out of control. This is why they will idle OK but then hang at high RPM. At low RPM there's not enough backpressure to start the runaway.

  • Another great video !

  • @kerobinsonii Thank you.

  • Another thing you might mention about drag trucks is that most of that smoke at the start of each run is because of the large A/R turbos they run and therefore not being able to keep up with heavy fueling down low. Heard of many windowed blocks using propane, but hope you're able to control it enough to avoid that. Good vids tho, interesting to see all this done, haven't been able to work on cummins much myself.

  • @longhornrancher6 LOL your killing me. I said all I wanted to say in this video.

  • can u make a vid on turning the fuel up on the other injection pump?

  • @yamimm700 Like I said in my last video I my video card did not save that part and I can only turn up the fuel one time.

  • @TheDieselStop sorry i didnt catch that

  • think id make a special place for the run away board on the inner fender

  • @customsport The only time that you wound need it would be when you are turning up the fuel.

  • Lol I like that ending with putting that piece of plywood on the turbo

  • Great info! 1 question thou , the last 2 video's you've talked about runaway? I'm assuming your meaning that it can go full throttle if adjusted wrong! Great vid's!

  • @wreckingcars72 Yep and a runaway can NOT be shut off with the keys.

  • @TheDieselStop

    THANKS for the info!

  • how can i increase the amount of black some that comes out and is there a way to make it blacker

  • @roadkillrob1 I take it that you did not watch all of part 1 ?

  • Thanks for answering all my questions i really enjoy learning this stuff ! Thanks!!!!

  • @Djkyle65 No problem your welcome.

  • Funny how people think black smoke is cool that is just your money going out in smoke and no benefit in horsepower. Glad you explained that in this video not many people know that.

Also many people don't realize turn up the fuel you GOTTA watch the EGTs the 5.9 12 valves are max 210-220 hp if you want to use the truck for working everyday ie pulling or hauling max gvw.

  • @Graveltrucking Yep and on top of that to much raw fuel will cause pistion scarffing then you get melt down.

  • can you turn the fuel like this on any type of VE style pump?

thank you for these vids mate keep em up!

  • @777worldliner Yep. Thanks.

  • awesome thanks for the info

  • @possetraxxx No problem.

  • Thanks for all the great info, I feel like I am getting smartified to diesel knowledge.

  • To bad some of the those Honda's didn't have such a simple kill switch when there throttle's hung open...

  • @mdk70454 I dont know what to tell you on that. Just stick a wrench in the turbo lol??

  • TheDieselStop you dont have to put propane or water meth/nos on these cummins to clean up the smoke. they smoke cause they have to much fuel and not enough air, i have a 2008 dodge cummins 3500 and i have a S478 turbo with 180hp injectors and it only smokes when im am a dead stop taking off to heavy but around 1800rpm my S478 starts spooling and it cleans up and with my set up im laying down 750+hp. PS nice chevy/cummins project you have going there.

  • @cumminsdiesel100 I know you dont have to but it is just like gale banks talks about black smoke is waisted HP. I did say that NOS or propane is a way to help clear up the smoke & make power.

  • you need your own show on TNT network !

  • @enfieldpolice LOL no I am good just doing this for a hobby.

  • @TheDieselStop you are very knowledgeable on cummins , the 6.2 etc , chevy's you are the person who I would call for help.

  • TheDieselStop, authority on cummins modification and improvements :P love these vids buddy.

  • @ShnitzlHaus Thank you.

  • Wayne u never did say which way to turn the smoke screw or the power screw and can i just turn the smoke screw up without turning the star wheel and the power screw ?

  • @cummins4020 Both clockwise & yes you can turn up just the power screw.

  • NOS-> instead !! my old boss used that on his detroit look @ my lead video on my channel

  • @enfieldpolice I am not sure what way I will go with that its just a idea for now.

  • @TheDieselStop the NOS is incredible !

  • @enfieldpolice I like the idea as well but rember the motor is ready for a overhall.

  • I caught it but knew what you meant. no harm done :)

  • @Veikra LOL it happens o'well

  • @TheDieselStop And I don't even play with cummins at that :p btw, how much does a 12v weights? is a 24v lighter?

  • @Veikra Both around 1100 lbs.
