As a xoom use I could never ever go ipad. ios is just a consumption device that doesn't have flash. Android has closer to desktop power, no comparison for serious users.

Great video. But it looks like the ipad2 looks bigger screen and yet the ipad2 is only 9.7 sizes ? and the xoom which is 10.1 screen a bigger screen. The xoom looks so small next to the ipad. Thats why im confused.. is that really the 10.1 tab xoom tab ? it looks smaller then the ipad.

@ALxKAPWND I down't know about the cost of the Apple iPad, since Wirefly doesn't sell it. But the Motorola Xoom comes in two versions: WiFi-only and carrier version. If you buy a WiFoi-only version, there are no monthly charges. If you buy the carrier (Verizon) version, you will pay for a monthly Verizon data service.

@azt1forever both cameras record 720p hd video. the xooms video is better because the higher quality camera. the ipad 2 cameras are very low quality for videos and pictures
Thanks for the review. But I am curious as to how fast pictures are captured? From the little part where you snapped a picture, I think the speed is alright. What are your thoughts? As fast as the iPhone 4? (taken aside the image resolution and rendering speed)
@wenchiang12 Pictures are captured quickly in the Xoom, certainly less than 1 second. I've done some photos with the iPhone 4 and they happened quickly, too. I'd say the the iPhone 4 and Xoom are comparable in that regard.
i really love android had the original G1 and grown with it even though i have an ipad. But the features that its missing that i really use for university is documenting apps - pages, keynote and numbers cater for that. I havent checked but any similar level document apps for android? - google docs available for it?

@azt1forever the back camera on the ipad 2 is 0.7mp on the xoom its 5pm. this is because the camera on the ipad is only made for video, not pictures. you can still take pictures with it but they look bad similar to very old camera phones

I like the way he's clearly bias towards the xoom to the point where even when it squeaks "data connection lost" he says "that's alright we're not going to be using the web again". That's not "alright" to suddenly drop the connection.

@moreaenglish The data connection was "lost" because I turned on the "hot spot" functionality. Turning on "hot spot" disconnects the WiFi connection. The review was "biased" because, with the little time I had, I was simply showing features of the Xoom that the iPad lacked. But, your point is valid.

Greedy bastards charge too much for android products, which is bullshit being that did not create OR PAY for the operating system(Android). Really wanted this to succeed but greedy Verizon and Motorola failed this with the price tag.
It's not fair to compare the XOOM at this point. The ipad has great apps written specifically for the ipad where as the XOOM at the moment has very few but the few shows off the hardwares power with great promise for future titles of all categories.Right now the XOOM is in early blossom and will eventually unleash the power come early spring and summer. Then add the fact that Honeycomb OS was built from the ground up from the people that know internet interaction better then anyone. Google.

I have to say that older Android OS versions, though were very nice and customizable, were not as smooth and polished as windows7(mobile) and ios. But Honeycomb is a diff story. I have used it for few hours and it is so freaking smooth. no issues at all. Specially with so much going on in the background, it handles everything very smoothly and w/o any lag. Very intuitive UI rather than having just icons on ur main screen. ipad is not bad but xoom/honeycomb has come a long way and is much better
go on mobile techreview and watch xoom full review. you will be blown away by the performance. Lisa shows every capability of xoom in her review and it just shines out,.

I've used a blackberry for the last 6 years. I'm now wanting to get away from the bb and would like the opinion on the Droid. I was also waiting on a tablet as well. From all the talk about apple I almost ordered my I phone till I saw the xoom tablet that looks to be more my interest. Will the bionic have the same functionality as the xoom or does the I phone still hold the edge?

@azt1forever both cameras record 720p hd video. the xooms video is better because the higher quality camera. the ipad 2 cameras are very low quality for videos and pictures

Thanks for the review. But I am curious as to how fast pictures are captured? From the little part where you snapped a picture, I think the speed is alright. What are your thoughts? As fast as the iPhone 4? (taken aside the image resolution and rendering speed)

@wenchiang12 Pictures are captured quickly in the Xoom, certainly less than 1 second. I've done some photos with the iPhone 4 and they happened quickly, too. I'd say the the iPhone 4 and Xoom are comparable in that regard.

i really love android had the original G1 and grown with it even though i have an ipad. But the features that its missing that i really use for university is documenting apps - pages, keynote and numbers cater for that. I havent checked but any similar level document apps for android? - google docs available for it?

@azt1forever the back camera on the ipad 2 is 0.7mp on the xoom its 5pm. this is because the camera on the ipad is only made for video, not pictures. you can still take pictures with it but they look bad similar to very old camera phones

I like the way he's clearly bias towards the xoom to the point where even when it squeaks "data connection lost" he says "that's alright we're not going to be using the web again". That's not "alright" to suddenly drop the connection.
I own neither but I can say the xoom's design is pretty effin ugly.

@moreaenglish The data connection was "lost" because I turned on the "hot spot" functionality. Turning on "hot spot" disconnects the WiFi connection. The review was "biased" because, with the little time I had, I was simply showing features of the Xoom that the iPad lacked. But, your point is valid.

iOS looks dated and tired. They haven't changed a thing about their UI since it's creation a long time ago. Android on the other hand has surpassed iOS is features and functionality by leaps and bounds. iPad looks boring sitting next to the Xoom and rightfully so. It's not fair to compare the XOOM at this point. The ipad has great apps written specifically for the ipad where as the XOOM at the moment has very few but the few shows off the hardwares power with great promise for future titles of all categories.Right now the XOOM is in early blossom and will eventually unleash the power come early spring and summer. Then add the fact that Honeycomb OS was built from the ground up from the people that know internet interaction better then anyone. Google.

This is probably one of the most horrible comparisons of any tablet against the ipad. first he only explained what the xoom has. but he never really explained what the ipad has and what the new ios 4.3 will bring to the ipad. and second i dont get why people bitch so much about home screen widgets apple actually makes things easiser by doing it for me so my ipad can look great. i prefer you compare the xoom once the 2 ipad comes out

Of course the xoom has better specs, You cant compare a 10 month old tablet (ipad) to a new technology tablet that just came out (xoom). But for some reason the old ipad is still more smooth in some scenarios, When the ipad 2 comes out than it will be a even and fair match.

@FlareOfDawn steve jobs never said "tablets" cant support flash...he just doesn't want flash on the ipad because its a buggy resource hog...I agree, apple should give us a choice if we want it or not, but truthfully I dont miss it on the ipad. I've seen videos of the xoom like this one and I've used the galaxy tab and none of them come close to the user experience the ipad gives you. I like android, they just have to refine their o.s. its too fragmented & buggy as of now.

I have to say that older Android OS versions, though were very nice and customizable, were not as smooth and polished as windows7(mobile) and ios. But Honeycomb is a diff story. I have used it for few hours and it is so freaking smooth. no issues at all. Specially with so much going on in the background, it handles everything very smoothly and w/o any lag. Very intuitive UI rather than having just icons on ur main screen. ipad is not bad but xoom/honeycomb has come a long way and is much better
