Off all the anthems known today the former one from the DDR with the music composed by Hanns Eisler, is the most beautiful piece of music ever written up to this day. Thank you very much composer for writing such a masterful piece and thank you all the musicians out there who know how to interpret and bring it to the public. Last but not least to the person for uploading this sound video, thank you.

Wobei die Instrumentale nix seltenes ist. eher die Textversion. Denn in der DDR gab es die letzten 30 Jahre nur die Instrumentale, denn durch die Text-Passage "Deutschland Einig Vaterland" wurde ja die eigene hymne beizeiten als Text verboten. Nen zeichen für den hirnriss in den Führungsköpfen

Well, I like the East German anthem (it sounds better than the "Das Lied der Deutschen"). But I'm surely NOT a supporter of the East German system. From my point of view the GDR was not a great state. For instance, even it's name German DEMOCRATIC Republic was a lie.

The Soviet Union/East Europe has shown us that one way or another, a communist state will end up bankrupt. Even the GDR was supported by the FRG during the 80's.

i like the morality and the ethic ideas of those countries... people like britney spear, marlin manson or tom cruise can't exist. Neither sports champions billionaires... at the olympics game CCCP and DDR used to win almost all the trophies but the atletics were awarded by their countries with honour and glory not with money.

Well, I surely don't like the ethic ideas of the DDR and other (former) socialist countries.

1. Nearly everything was controlled by the Stasi, they knew virtually everything about anybody.

2. People that could travel to the NSA (nichtsozialistisches Ausland or to put it in other words "the west") were first checked by the Stasi, to check if they were loyal to the regime. Someone that wasn't loyal (enough) couldn't travel to the west.

3. Sports were always important in every Communist county. But they wanted to win so badly that they even used "stuff to enhance performance" (if you know what I mean).

4. Athletes indeed got glory, and no money. That's why the iron curtain was build. The leaders of the Eastern bloc-countries knew perfectly well that not everybody was a supporter of state capitalism (which they prefer to call "socialism"). So, to keep their citizens in, they made a Schutzstreifen, Sperrgebiet and so on.

Capitalist countries use "stuff" to win too. However, it's more used by athletes to ensure monetary gain rather than perform well enough to procure glory and honour for their homelands.

True, but in the West, that "stuff" wasn't supplied by the governement. Lets set North Korean shooter Kim Jong Su as an example. It's possible that the governement supplied him with propranolol. Just because sports are a way to show that 'their' Korea is better than their Southern, 'puppet state' (in their opinion) counterpart.

Well except for the fact that most of the CCCP and DDR athletes were injected with loads of steroids and hormones...well over the recommended limits by those socialist doctors. I've seen on TV some former E.German female athletes started to grow beards and excessive body hair and their voice grew deeper. Some acutally had to have sex change to become a man because the steroids used on them totally fucked up their body.

It's funny how this tune fits (almost) exactly to the unofficial words to the EU Anthem (Ode to Joy).
