  • Good lesson mate, it helps a lot..Cheers..

    Wayne..

  • Neil, after messin' around for YEARS ! I made a hyperspace jump in a matter of days thanks to you ! I was the idiot savant to the guys I jam with, now I show them stuff they don't understand and I do. I'm turning all the players I know on to you. I never had a better lesson since someone told me "Don't be afraid to make noise". Peace and thanks. Now I'll go sign up for your newsletter !

  • You're a handsome man, Neil.

  • @Apalachee207 Thanks!

  • nice simple video. thanks. makes a change from me watching hot girls 'play' rock. good to see stuff simplified and explained or lazy people like me who should really be working it out anyway

  • @EmperorKabir Thanks for the kind comments. Don't beat yourself up. Everyone can benefit from having a teacher. I had to set my ego aside and take lessons as well. Don't know what it's about us guitar players that thinks there is more honour in figuring everything out by ourselves... even if it makes the learning process longer. :)

  • Thanks. I've been trying to learn the hard way but now i know. Thanks again

  • @sirunit27 Thanks for your kind comment!

  • Thank you. I have "played" for 10 years until you came and gave me a nice pattern how to remember every note on the fret board.

  • @fecunditatis I'm glad I could help you!

  • Holy hell, it all just clicked. I've been trying to learn the CAGED system for days but had no previous knowledge of note position on the fret board. No wonder I wasn't making any progress! Thanks for the vid!

  • @madamimadamimadam Same here man . Woah simplicity at it's best !!!

  • @MarvinLively Thanks!

  • @madamimadamimadam I'm glad I've been able to help you. Check out the website for more free lessons, diagrams and e-books.

  • I think the pattern you demonstrated using the octave and the peddle point exercise is very helpful in helping w/ memorization.

    Thank you

  • @bigjimgtr Thanks!

  • I just ignore the way you number the strings, since the note positions don't change no mater what you call a string, you could even call the g-string the sexy string for all I care, but yeah, the pattern is definiteley there. it's a whole step on the bass strings and a whole and a half step on the treble strings to the next same note, 2 strings down. With the top and bottom being the same strings thus the notes repeat there.

  • @RJW14 Yes you're right.

  • God on ya, dude. Never mind the nay sayers! LOL They're the ones complaining yet you're the one with freboard memorized and able to teach it!

  • you lost me when you said "i count the strings in a different way"

  • @UltiMogr Do you mean it confused you or you don't agree with that method? If it's the first then I suggest you visit my site where you can look at diagrams that make it clear. If it's the latter then feel free to watch one of the many other videos that teach in the conventional way.

  • @TheGTRChannel i mean im trying to learn some methods. not learn "some guys" method.

  • @UltiMogr Cool. But be aware that every method started as 'some guy's method'. The opinion of my way of teaching is pretty evenly split 50% hate it, 50% find it a revelation. I'm looking to serve the people that have always struggled with the conventional way and want to try a different approach. Clearly you aren't one of those people. But thanks for taking the time to post feedback.

  • @UltiMogr I agree. Its like making it more confusing.

  • Very informative lesson, Thanks..

  • this was incredibly helpful, thanks.

  • Knowing octave and unisons isn't the same as knowing the note positions "cold". For anyone who thinks this is an easy fix, it isn't. Considerable work needs to be done to internalise the fretboard.

  • @2funk2bpunk

Thanks for your comment. This method made things quicker for me, so I thought I'd show it to more people.

Also it really helps for when you want to learn the CAGED system.

  • @TheGTRChannel

Your right some people do have trouble learning conventional methods but these methods are what make up musical structure. You take the tried and tested ways of creating music then you develop your own style once you understand the principles. If you had trouble with maths then you would'nt make up your own mathmatical method and say "well i couldn't get my head round the other way so i made up my own" It would just be wrong because it's not the way it's done.

  • @FilGee100 Are they tried and tested? How come I meet so many guitar players that have taken lessons and still don't know the pattern of all the notes I show in this video? Let alone able to identify all the notes on the fretboard. I'm not making up a new maths, since counting the frets is as basic as it gets, it will never go away.

I don't go through life doing things 'because it's always been done that way', in every aspect of my life I've learned better ways of doing things. Experiment!

  • Are you laying upside down? Lol

  • @Jakster840

Sitting on the couch. The camera is attached to my head and I'm looking down at the guitar.

  • "OK the first thing you need you need to know is that i count the strings on the guitar in a different way to most people" :)

Not a good start, confusing us with method that it appears only you do in a certain way is not a good teaching practice. How about showing us the proper method that every experienced guitarist will recognise ?Thanks for taking the time but i don't think it's a good idea to stray from the path when learning music theory thats been established for hundreds of years. Pass.

  • @FilGee100

This video, and all the material I create, is for the people who can't get their head around the conventional ways that theory is taught. Of which there are many. I'm just presenting another approach.

You are free to enjoy and use the thousands of videos and other material that is out there and that has been around for hundreds of years. If it works for you, that's cool.

This way is for the other people for whom the conventional method doesn't work.

  • Cool explanation. I'll check out your e-book for sure.

  • This is great, I've never seen that pattern before. Everyone should know it.
