Bruce Gilden - Coney Island (2005)

Every month or two I feel the NEED to watch this short doc. I love the narrative, the work and even the music. It makes me feel good, simple.

Great pics, it´s very interesting to hear a photographer what´s going on his mind during the shoot and after that moment, for me his work is unique and detailed. Great job.

I like his theories but most of his photographs are bad. I really truly love some of his work such as whats on Magnum so I look past some of the Caca-poopoo. He measurebates a lot. I would like to get up close some times but sometimes the photograph is better if you don't. I feel like he should either use a lower aperture and a flash so that his subject is more the center of interest or either Photoshop. I think his biggest flaw is that he is to emotional attached and over thinks his photos.

@AllanGeeRusky Jesus Allan. you sound like a complete idiot. that's what bruce does. sometimes a photograph is better if you're not close? where do you come up with this asinine dribble? lower aperture, flash? photoshop? why don't you shows us your pics? every good photographer is emotionally attached to his pictures. bruce shoots them in a split second so i don't think he overthinks anything. he just looks at them later and comes up with his ideas and interpretations.

I came upon this particular clip from a site which says "Gilden is so obnoxious you have to love him."

I certainly do not. The man made the major part of his 'career' by mocking people. He claims in this narrative that he doesn't understand why one of his subjects/victims was bitter. If he had even a bit of intelligence, grace or sensitivity he would realize that he has exploited her shame for his gain. Gilden does little other than illustrate how ridiculous/fat/ugly/old his characters are.

My Grandfather used to say "Is your Father a Glacier" . Very funny. Bruce is a Master in league with Winogrand.

I shoot street and trust me this guy is really gutsy. Masterful really. He's achieving images that no one else will because no one will approach the subject the way he does. I think he'll be remembered for these images he's made. I'm encouraged to be a little more gutsy myself in my shooting
