I find the this girl's multilingualism stunning. How she changes languages within a sentence. Though it appears German is her first language, all the "aside" remarks are in German. Which seems strange, considering French is the official language of La Grande-Duche de Luxembourg.
Her father is from Luxembourg and her mother is from Italy. The funny thing is, her first language is German, but that's probably because in Luxembourg, the media is mostly in German, and that's the language students are taught in school.
It's rather irritating to say the least how Terry Wogan talks all over that lovely score with all the past Luxembourg ESC tunes. They go to all that trouble and he talks all over it and doesn't even mention anything about it! Pah. I wish I could hear the music without him droning on.
Actually for Eurovision presenters of the 80s, this one was pretty, well, loose when it came to presenting. Looking at other opening sequences on YouTube the presenters took their jobs very seriously, presumably to avoid embarrassment for their countries(?!). Her presenting skill is not too dissimilar to what we have now. This girl was way ahead of the times!
in this medley of former luxembourgish winners, L'amour Est Bleu was inserted between the songs

For me presenter in Eurovision: young, fresh, good looking and with much personality and she can speak many languages fluently. How I like Desirée!

Others have commented on the presenter's multilingualism, but I find it interesting that her English sounds positively American.

Yes, Desiree looked young and pretty when she hosted the ESC 1984.

French and German are both official languages in Luxembourg. Luxemburgish didn't become an official language until 1984, the year of the contest. ;)
