i miss the west peir, iv lived in eather Hove or Brighton my whole life and i used to love looking at it and asking my mum when i was little if it would ever be fixed. i just dont see any motive for burning it down. its a really sad sight now when i drive past. i wish there was still hope for the west peir.
it was too expensive to restore it back to the way it was in the 70s so the council just let it rot and the place became a pile of wood covered in bird shit and now its a pile of burnt wood coverd in bird shit :'(

The little white hut u can see very clearly on ur vid is the only thing that didnt get damaged by that blaze...it was the old fortune tellers hut...i find that really creepy, even though its unfortunetly fallen down now.
Lived in Brighton for 4 years in Regency Square just opposite - its a real shame that nothing was done to restore or save the pier after it became derelict in 1975 - it was a haunting and special sight which always reminded me of brighton and good times on the beach and seafront, I'll never forget the place...

Yeah these twats that set it on fire, they have ruined its chances of being restored, and the i360 development is no way good enough to replace that pier. It was and still is the greatest pier ever built in this country or even the world.

But I thought the i360 was proposed to try and raise funds to restore the pier. It must have been started by someone, but who and why?

@badbob1983 It was arson. The pier was on sale for £1 but you had to have the money to do it up.
