  • @clippers334: The Knowmads are dope, don't hate before you listen.

  • prolly the best live hip hop group ever.. ever since 93.. they are all musicians.

  • I used to burn l's to this all the time

  • if you like this song you should like my video of a lazy afternoon , you dont have to like it but just give it a view hop on to my channel :)

  • KnowMads are the future of Hop-Hop. Tom Pepe: possibly the greatest emcee yet. Be ready for the take over, like it or not, its coming. K's up! -One Love

  • "I CALLED UP MAURA...THIS DIP I KNOW FROM BORA BORA!!!" I LOVE THESE DUDES!!!

  • I wish I had a lazy afternoon today. I feel lazy as fuk

  • @MuzikEsLife, i don't usually stoop to the lows of making comments about comments on YouTube but you need to realise this is one of the all time great rap tracks, on one of the all time great rap albums, by one of the all time great MCs in front of one of the all time great rap outfits. i'm sorry to say this but if you claim to like rap and think this is 'not hip hop' this is one of those 'you don't know what the fuck you're talking about' moments. i hear R Kelly is short of a fan, jog on son

  • you dnt even unseeerstrand music MuzikEs, you dnt understand tha flow of this the lazyniess, the mellow ness.. gtfo here.. wit cho bitchass lol.. btw only a few words of each verse are changed, so its not relaly the same verse three times

  • wtf man these niggas really put the same verse 3 times! bs man. not hip hop

  • @MuzikEsLife The repetition is an old Jazz technique of doing the same thing, hitting the same notes, but in a different way with a different inflection or attitude. ATCQ does the same thing on "Sucka Nigga"

You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

  • @bubbusby like you said "jazz" and @kgmoney77 ..this aint hip hop. want hip hop? look up "KnowMads"

  • @MuzikEsLife To insinuate that Jazz and Hip Hop don't share a long, long history is absurd. W/O Jazz there is no hip hop. Period...

Knowmads is laughable at best as is most Seattle Hip Hop, which is unfortunate for me. You want real hip hop, look up "Web" or "75 Bars" by The Roots. Essentially it's just Thought on the Mic and Quest on the Drums.

  • @bubbusby Jazz and Hip Hop do get along. this just aint hip hop. and Tom Pepe is the future of hip hop his lyrics completely destroy the roots. "web" is hop hop im not feeling "75 bars" Hip Hop doesnt use the same verse but once. never said this song sucked, it just aint hip hop

  • @MuzikEsLife I can point to a handful of tracks that repeat, or copy or remake lyrics:

"Sucka Nigga" by A Tribe Called Quest, straight repeat of lyrics

"Act Too" Mos Def & Thought's remake of a Double Trouble track from Beat Street

Mos Def's remake of Slick Rick's children's story

Talib Kweli's "For Women" elaboration of Nina Simone's "Four Women"

Groups like The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest defined what is hip hop, they made the rules. Whatever they do is hip hop. You're just wrong.

  • @bubbusby fuck it maybe i am wrong. peace and love

  • @MuzikEsLife peace to mankind

  • @MuzikEsLife dude you're totally wrong. Let real heads talk on this thread and you can go promote your friends tracks on some some wack emcee's page. I too usually don't stoop low to comment on comments but damn dude to say this isn't hip hop should be one of the 7 deadly sins, you need some repentance son.

  • @bubbusby yeah, i could definitely hear the sucka nigga, but couldn't put my finger on it. props!

  • @MuzikEsLife I fount out who Tom Pepe is from reading this comment. Thanks you very much he is amazing!

  • black thought is such an underated emceeee!

  • yooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • For the longest I thought this track was messed up but after I came down from being high I realized it was just redundantly beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh. Drexel Dick Explosion.

  • the roots make me proud to be from Philadelphia.

  • @ABluFuture Hey didn't that Philly art school lose its dick? I forgot the name.

  • @ZachsGayCat wtf r u talkin about?

  • @ABluFuture The uni shaft

  • @ABluFuture they make me wish i was from philie ahhaha. but mad respect to ne1 who likes the roots. big up to all yall who viewed this video

  • How many people I convinced to give me $20 so I could cop this album for them? How could I hate an ill brotha like Thought PLUS Minnie Riperton interploations and shout outs to ATCQ? Word UP^^

  • I love how all of The Roots music sound just as ill in 2010 as it did in 95

  • @clippers334 so true

  • @clippers334 ill? is that the new "sick"? :S

  • @pepo91088 come on man thats the old "sick" even on their old joint with common he says "I'm from the state that is ill" and he's not just saying that cause it's short for Illinois.

  • @pepo91088 "that all mighty amazing, ill, highly contagious"

  • I got the thing that the verse repeats, but after visiting Mary Jane it took me a while to catch it on again.

  • one of the points of the song that I get is how he can pick which section of the 16th note to start the accent on each time through the same verse. we used to do drills like this in drumline, 'pass the accent' or 'rukka rukka'

  • This is real rap

  • One of the best expressions of laziness musically ! The bass line is damn lazy.

  • @tokumas Another one is Lazybones by Soul Coughing.

  • Hell Yeah

  • Perfection of a style! Once you get to perfection, you must maintain and arrest change. Any change from perfection will be less than perfect. Overstand

  • Ohhh my god!!!!!!!!!! Finally someone who posts their older work, don't get me wrong I love all their albums equally, but every time I wanted to show someone their older stuff ( and didn't feel like digging out my ipod) I was always dissapointed to never find what I was looking for on youtube.

    Thank you *bows*

    :)

  • this song is very addictive

  • @cougar1234c

    yeah

i know this song by heart and i constantly catch myself singing it on long drives

over and over and over again

the rhyme scheme is catchy as fuck

  • I normally don't like hip hop, but these guys are just really chill music. It's good to hear this when I'm down, thanks for adding the music man.

  • I missed going to see the Roots live in concert. My bro told me Mos Def randomly popped in and started freestyling and there was a guitar solo...I wish I was there :(

  • This track has awesome atmospere...

What's more, Questolve in NBA2k9 is very funny xD

  • Now it's 3:37 and I still aint left the rest.. Electric Relaxation from A Tribe Called Quest..

  • havin a lazy afternoon in Boston

  • its great how he uses a song in his song:"Electric Relaxation from A Tribe Called Quest" its also a grea tune.i highly suggest listening to iy

  • minnie riperton here we go!

  • I luv the Roots. I think Black Thought is a very slept on lyricist and The Roots is a very talented slept on hip hop group. They should of blew up way more than they have. They just bring a different element to hip hop that I think just isnt respected enuff. Theys guys are super talented. those who slept wake up and take sum no doz cause yall are missin out.

  • Definitely on my top Five hip hop groups of all time.

  • without a shadow of a doubt

  • song descent but why they all rap the same verse

  • Cause he is actually being lazy that day...its one of the things that makes the song classic...he ain't frontin'

  • havin a lazy afternoon in Lonodon

  • Ths is just a hot song no doubt

  • this shit is so smooth. The bassline is so swet

  • this a reminder ov what real hip hop was all about !! forget about the shit they trying 2 market as hip hop these days cuz it aint hip hop at all its hip pop !

  • i love how next to this nice, intellectual song, it has an advertisement for lil wayne ringtones.....trash

  • Amazing chill out joint

  • boom...tokin, smokin, coolin out, as i parly in my room.

  • There has been insane amounts of weed ingested by my lungs while listening to this joint.

  • Hell ya, this and Illadelph Halflife are ridiculous!!

  • All their albums are ridiculous in their own way. One of the most consistant in hip hop ever

  • damn black thought was rappin about Tora Bora wayyy before the media jumped on it... he is THAT dude

  • Bora Bora.

  • that's the whole point of the song man...he was too lazy to make other verses

  • i think you've missed the entire point of the song. it's a one verse song for a purpose.

songs like "lazy afternoon" and "sucka nigga" by atcq are classic one-verse songs because they are able to explain the entire concept of the song in one extraordinay and creative verse.

  • you gotta see the roots as a band too u know. they pretty much made three remixes to the same verse on here. i dont see why that makes it less of a classic.

  • exactly, he spits it diff on the 3 verses and beat is constintly changin....anyone who doubts this track shouldn be listenin to hiphop..

  • seriously man, the roots ripped this beat, and killed the song, its sick too. haters can keep hating. thats them.

  • and his delivery is different each time

  • @Esotrepid But the verse is ill doe...come on mane this shit is dope

  • @Esotrepid

a lazy afternoon analogizes your statement same lazy shyt over and over....

  • @Esotrepid yeah there is, a desent taste in music.

  • is it just be or does thought sound like common on this song. I dont know why but that first verse sounds like him.

  • Fall 1996, Western Michigan University, Garneau - Harvey hall... my mind is there once again.

  • i still aing thia to myaelf like everyday and its 13 years later!

i dress up for numbers of woman i admire...cause its a lazy afternoon

  • I remember getting stoned and listening to this album and Illadelph Halflife. Good times man.

  • wat!!!! one of my fav roots song yo 4 real luv the creativity of how they express the laziness of that afternoon

  • THE LEGENDARY ROOTS CREW

  • Frankly I think this song could've had a bangin' video. This is the SHIZNIT!!!

  • thought is so underrated, his lyrics are consistently ill, delivery and versatility insane..and the roots are the best live show in hip hop!

  • thought is underrated? I don't think so. He is at his level above all soljaboys, t-pains etc

  • @WOLVESVIDS i think they might be the best live show in the world

  • @WOLVESVIDS Yeah true. Black thought is one the most underrated rappers(OF ALL TIME), right behind AZ and Masta Ace. And all the REAL hip-hop fans should know The Roots! Unlike cedpooh38. That guy is 34 years old and he called himself a Hip-Hop guru, but he doesn't even know the The Roots and he thinks Lil Wayne is the best rapper Alive. That makes me wanna killed myself. LMAO!

  • errrbody WAKE UP

  • "Caught a page from the crew sayin' "Where ya at? Later, meet us up at the Plat Bring a sack, it's Saturday, it's gonna be fat." I love that shit. Classic.

  • Electric relaxation from a TCQ. HEAVY. Legendary Roots Crew.

  • soooo lazy that it only have one verse..and it sound great...even if soulja boy is also use one verse same time

  • But Black Thought knows how make a single verse song tight as fuck, UNLIKE No-soulja Boy.

  • i like mellow songs like this

  • this song/vid needs more attention

    the Roots are legendary.

  • wicked song (H) i stole the comment boards virginity but yah wicked song

  • you stole the comment boards virginity? ok...
