I like the car, the idea is old. I have to give where credit is due after all... the brits did make the spitfire WW2 fighter. I say let the US put a little bit bigger engine in it, shoot for 550-600rwhp, 6 speed trans and help the suspension a bit and it will be the baddest thing to an actual JET. We (us) did the same thing to the Spitfire, then called it a P51 Mustang. After that, the Germans were toast! Will history repeat itself? I hope, so, I would buy it then!

I hate US car laws: the Atom must be registered as a "specially constructed vehicle" to be road legal since it doesn't pass crash tests. That said, I can buy and drive any motorcycle I want, free of hastle. The health and safety people somehow deem a motorcycle more safe than an Atom. Anyway, one doesn't buy an Atom for its safety. That would be like watching a porn film for its plot.

In Australia we get 98 Octane straight out of the pumps, that's what we call premium. Normal is 91, that's rite US fuel is cheap but its also lower octane than Australia and most of Europe.

You compared the t rex and the atom? Did you drive them or did you just watch a biased review from Edmunds? The atom is incredible but it costs twice as much as a T-Rex and much more if the T-Rex is used. My hayabusa turbo T-Rex generates the same numbers as the atom and more when a skidpad is used (even with the mods I paid less than an atom). Edmunds obviously cannot afford a larger skidpad or they would get better numbers on both the rex and the atom.

I was comparing this Atom to the T-rex and there is no comparison, The Atom beats the T-rex hands down. The Atom is sold with different engines configurations. I have seen a 300 hp Atom that does not require race fuel and it is still really fast.

No but i have driven my brother's integra. wich is more hardcore than a golf GTI. In a FWD you get some lift off oversteer in some cars but just press the throttle and the car goes straight again. And the GTI isn't any harder, neither FWD car, they are just easy to drive.

Actually when TMI Autosport makes it for the US market they use the 2.0L Ecotech from GM. It can be configured for either engine.

Well, on normal race tracks, I believe the atom would be way faster than the Mclaren. However, on high speed tracks such as the Nurburgring, I believe the Mclaren F1 would win (7:11s). It requires some skill to drive this beast since it's too powerful !!

This video was part of a full road test done by Edmonds. The car with a full race mapp is closer to 450WHP. The Atom also had "borrowed" Koni rear shocks fitted which were not right and handling was well below normal. The Bilsteins leaked/failed the day before Edmonds test so the skid pad and slalom tests were not as good as they should be. Still not bad. Had the test driver managed to lauch the Atom in 2nd, the 0-60 would have been better, but he did not want to bust the car.
