I think I got the fungus from playing baseball one season, it rained all the time and the constant moisture in my foot probably caused the fungus to grow. I went to the dermatologists and they prescribed the antibiotic Lamisil. After a month of taking Lamisil my toe nail got cured. You don't know how great it feels to have your nail back to normal after so long.

@MsLiebe1984 soap has nothing to do whatsoever with toenail infections since its a fungal infection of the nailbed itself (UNDER the toenail) so this wouldnt be an area that is "soapable". Its typically gained due to a small cut or injury in the foot allowing access to the microbes which then fester in those tissues. The cut can even be small enough to go unnoticed.

The *ONLY* way to remove it is to have the nail taken off completely. Terbinefine doesn't work. A ringblock around the base of the toe, removal of the nail and a dressing will stop it for years! If you no longer want a nail rub the bed with alcohol and it will never grow back.
