  • this was my show.

  • the 844 is the original locomotive used

  • I found it it kind of funny that when he said 'friends by your side' at 1:16 that UP 844 is next to the 'Daylight' engine, which I don't know what the number is.

    Was that intended?

  • @BillyQuincy The SP engine was #4449 and yes that was intentional.

  • @spacewizard1 Wasn't that to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal when the 844 came from Cheyenne and the 4449 came from Portland to celebrate the birthday of the station?

  • @spacewizard1 Thanks.

  • @spacewizard1 A great way to show engine friends if you ask me.

  • This was done on The Isle Of Man Steam Railway. When i watched T&TMR, I had no idea it was a British train station.

  • UP 844 is a legend! To be the only steam locomotive in America to never be retired is quite an achievement. The one thing I'm curious about is why UP kept 844 on the roster when so many other of her sisters, both bigger and smaller were retired.

  • Such an amazing show. I remember watching it as a child. I'm 27 now. Remember the jukebox band :D

  • hahahah Awesome !!!

  • <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • I watched this show while growing up. I miss that guy, and the joy that brought me.

  • Fond memories of this awesome TV show.

It helped me get through the ordeals of elementary school.

    Also, RIP MR. Carlin!

  • The shot at 1.07 is spectacular. It looks like it is right out of a Thomas the Tank Engine episode!

  • YEAH ST.LOUIS!!!!!!!

  • the 844 is actually used for the actual intro & outro

  • This is absolutely wonderful! I know it's weird for a teenage girl to say she loves trains, but I can't help it. I have no idea why they mesmerize me, they just do. And set to this song makes theme even better!

  • @littlebutterfly522 Well steam locomotives, Especially Union Pacific 844 are just plain awesome.

  • @littlebutterfly522 I know a couple of teenage girls that also are in love with steam locomotives. I dont personally know them but I think thats so cool. Me being a guy its probably somewhat normal but trains are the coolest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long Live Steam!

  • @littlebutterfly522, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a passion, especially if it's for railroads and trains. I can remember watching Shining Time Station when I was growing up, and I always used to cry when this song came on at the end of each episode. Even now, as a young man out of college, I still find myself completely captivated by the magic that is the railroad, and I've gained a historical appreciation for them as well.

  • @littlebutterfly522 its not weird its rare.

  • when watching this i think of my daddy who would go out to work when i was a boy

by saying he had to steam on no matter what was on the track or his job

  • i love the shot at 0:54 - it looks so perfect!

  • This made me cry a bit. I alwaaays wanted to go on a train.

  • hey guys, how fast do you think the train is travelin in 0:53-0:56 in the chase??

  • this show was the best!! this song brings back memories nice job

  • Brings back so many good memories!

  • is this the UP Challenger???

  • no the Challenger is 3985

  • did they have good morning america as one there theme songs to

  • Union Pacific 844 has been proudly steaming since 1944.

  • one of the parts of my childhood i shall never forget...u will never die in our memories, shining time!!

  • Is it "reach for the speed", or "reach for the steam"?

  • I'd say reach for the steam, simply because it makes the most sense. You can't really reach for the speed

  • Acctualy you can, the throttle controls the locomotive's speed.

  • @spacewizard1 "Reach for the speed" can mean gaining speed, in an abstract way. I think it's "speed," but it's hard to tell.

  • its reach for the speed

  • @ThomasRivette "Speed"

  • Love your video.

  • Grat Job, now that you've done an 844 theme all you need now is a 3985 theme.

  • At 1:05 Why its at StL il

  • Read the other comments first. Reading is Fun

  • why its at St.Louis il

  • (sigh) the primary video I got most of the footage from was from the Pentrex Tape St.Louis Steam Celebration. as such most o the shots were from St. Louis

  • most of the shot is from St.Louis

  • Because "Its waiting for you" lmao

  • Did George Carlin really sing Shining Time Station.

  • no, the singer is Kevin Roth.

  • OMG I remeber this before I would go to church. This used to show every sunday morning. GOOD memories

  • @RyanFresh same here..... i still watch the episodes on here and the thomas episodes here too.

  • How about a video like this on 4449

  • look in video responses

  • Thank you for this! I remember STT from when my son was little. We laughed together at Schemer, don't know who enjoyed it more! Happy, happy memories, :D

  • i am almost bawling...T.T :'( I miss shining time!!!!!

  • Why didn't you use the side by side shot of 4449 & 844 for the part "to a SiningTime Station where dreams will come true", that would have been great.

  • Shining Time Station was made in 1988... right?

  • i don't know why, but this made me laugh.

  • can you please make a 4449 version PLEASE i've been thinking of that scince 2007

  • I might but not for a little while, I have finals coming soon and I had better get ready for those

  • Okay now I made one of the 4449. So go look at it.

  • i saw so far it's perfect well done spacewizard1 you have made my dream come true

  • 1:17 is such a beautiful shot, it brought tears to my eyes...

  • Could you make one of PRR 1361?

  • Sorry I can't. I don't have any footage. Also, as a note to anyone who watches this, don't request engines since more often than not I don't have any pentrex videos on that engine.

  • The 844 looks really sexy in that "Greyhound" paint scheme. They really should've kept it!

  • omfg! i've been trying to remember the name to this show. i loved it when i was a kid.

    ... memories!

  • Makes me want to watch "Shining Time Station" now

  • That, In my opinion was the best into to ANY thomas episode. They really messed it up in the new ones. I think maybe they should do a reunion episode or somthing like that of all the old actors with Ringo Star as Mr. C. that would be cool.

  • I just like the song....

  • I was a diehard Thomas the Tank Engine fan. Had just about all the toys and still have all the original tapes LoL

  • me too brother! *sob*

  • At least I'm not alone LoL

  • Me either!

  • We have a little group going on now LoL

  • The 844 rocks!

  • STL Baby!

  • listening to this song reminds me of the elementry games my friends and i would play during recess before we thought we were to cool for it.

  • Love this song. Love this video. I wish they'd make more Thomas videos with the theme song. Shining Time Station is my favorite show of all time!

  • One of the best TV themes EVER!!!!!!

  • I'm 16 and I still love this show. Awesome video.

  • i remember this show, i was like 4 years old

  • When did the 844 double head with the 1522

  • June of 1990 - I have a book with a picture of the two parked in St. Louis during a thunderstorm. It's a shame it hasn't been back since.

  • OK thanks

  • just wish UP was still running the "big boy" ....and not just the "challenger" but i can see "big boy" when ever i want its just north of me in a museum but im sure it comes out every now and then

  • This is awsome, the engine, the song, im 4 years old again.

  • dont we all sometimes wish we were young again, just to relive good old times like the Shining TIme days? i know i do...

  • Yeah, you said it.

  • Same here.

  • 1:17 is the best the UP #844 and SP #4449 are side by side

  • omg! this is so old. I loved that show. I didn't think this would be on youtube. I swear the last time I saw that intro I was about 3 or 4 years old. I miss this show!

  • R.I.P GEORGE CARLIN the BEST NARRATOR AND MR.CONDUCTOR OF THE SERIES YOU WILL E MISSED BY ALL

  • yessir, Carlin will be missed...he was a wonderful mr. conductor

  • Indeed, he will ALWAYS be Mr. Conductor to me, and hopefully to all who watched when we were young....

  • I always think of this song when traveling a long distance, of the open road and world itself before you as if in a field where the horizond is perfectly visible! Then just take that with a railroad line passing right through; imagine being the driver. Almost harmonic. The shot at 1:16 also has to be my favorite.

  • I Think I'll Alec Blaldwin! Don't Worry!

  • I miss this show alot!

  • these engines look so cool

  • RIP George Carlin

This show has influenced me in many ways

    (tears)

  • thanks

  • I could listen to this 100 times. Sigh, memories.

  • imho 0:53 - 0:58 is best, that is exactly how it has to be, large steam loco at full speed, woah!

  • R.I.P George Carlin

  • Who was he exactly?

  • A comedian and narrator for Thomas the tank engine. and he was Mr. Conductor in the Show Shining time station. RIP

  • RIP George Carlin...

  • I like that "friends by your side" verse where 844 and "Daylight" were chuffing side by side together. : )

  • Wow, I remember this, I was like 3 when It was canceled.

  • lol i remember this show it was the best :D

  • Holy cow this song brings back amazing memories! Thanks for posting it!

  • wow i still rememebr this this was sooo long ago

  • indeed. I agree with stephe21. keep on steamin and enjoy.

  • Remember posting a comment once is enough

  • Haven't heard this in years. Reminds me to take a peaceful vacation in the midst of stress and other lives we live.

  • Wow, I haven't see this show in over 14 years lol! Thanks for posting this.

  • Did you know that very engine was used for opening and ending credits. Before the grey paint job. My Friends mom was in the helicopter that was used to shoot the end credits.

  • OUT STANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE this song!!! It's so magical. Haven't heard it for a decade or more, but I still had it memorized. :)

  • Nice, I used to watch shining time station when I was 3. 4449 is my dad's favorite engine. Godspeed 844.

  • I see some of the footage was from when the locomotive was numbered 8444.

  • When was the 844 in Missouri?

  • It was in Missouri in 1990 when the St. Louis chapter of the NRHS had their convention.

  • This song makes me feel depressed, why? I have no idea

  • That was the old grey paint scheme used in the 80's. Also, the station looked like the UP depot in Cheyenne.

  • Well, your partially right. The paint scheme is the old gray one that was used until the early 90's. The station however isn't in Cheyenne. That station is St. Louis's Union Station

  • good times...good times

  • I miss this show so much.

  • Wow, I got chills listening to this and I wouldn't ever admit to that but I miss this show! It's sad to see classics such as Reading Rainbow and Barney still on PBS but this show is nowhere to be found. That song completely takes me back! Thanks!

  • Wow...that was great! Shining Time Station was a fun show even for adults...and the train sequences were breathtaking. Loved what you have done here. Some time ago while out west, I ended up chasing #844 alongside on a parallel road. That engine was a ROCKET SHIP ON LAND!!!

  • I cried ;_;

  • This was like my favorite show (and theme song).

  • I bet anyone under 15 doesn't know about this show.

  • i think your right

  • me too...this is a classic

  • Very nice!

  • Whoever posted this video I FREAKIN LOVE YOU!!

  • I did

  • I'm so f****** amazed!! I loved Shining TIme when I was a kid and this brings back memories

  • Ooooh my God this brings me back

  • shining time

  • O man this was a great show it was one of my favourites that and fireman sam

  • this song has an enchanting feel to it. no wonder why we liked the show so much.

I wish they'd re-air this show in america. This show taught us so many lessons. It's time this generation learned them as well.

  • ...wow....It just kinda makes me tear up thinking back to my childhood....granted, i was spoiled.

    10 Miles from Savanna IL

    30 Miles from Clinton IA

    50 Miles from Rochelle IL

and that's a lot of what my old man and I did. God I miss those days.

  • The theme song still makes my hair stand on end. I LOVED this show.

  • this was one of my favorite shows growing up. i miss shows like this lol

  • Wow nice vid... it's really good

  • Man this is one of my favorite songs of all times...I wonder if there's an MP3 of the full song out there somewhere.

  • do you know where to get am mp3 of the credits verion of the song

  • Wow, I used to watch this...

  • what is this song called , i want it

  • It's the Shining time station theme song

  • Love that Daylight!! Purdy engine

  • The show ran from 1989-1993, at which time it became Mr. Conductor's Thomas Tales (spin-off, with George Carlin playing the Conductor again, Ringo Starr was the 1st season). THAT show lasted until 1996 or 1997.

  • nice video! Please don't remove it! That is the same locomotive used in the opening and closing of good old Shining Time Station.

  • Can you make more video with the Shining Time Station theme song?

  • i miss this show :(

  • Don't we all.

  • I'm using the Shining Time Station Theme in my into for Full Bucketniers.

  • Where did you get the song?

  • was that St. Louise, I was born there.

  • Yes it was and the station I used as "Shining Time" is St. Louis Union Station.

  • How appropiate, considering 844 (numbered 8444 at the time) was the engine in the original Shining Time Station intro!

  • the scene @ 1:07 looks so much like the bridge on Thomas' branchline.

and the Frisco 1522 is my favorite steamer!

  • NICE FILM,THANKS MAN,Makes me wonna cry, Thomas/shing time was,and still is time to time,my favorite train show, and WILL YOU WATCH MY VID!

  • Where did you get the Shining Time Station themes? Both the intro and the ending?

  • I got them off the Tis A Gift Videotape I own. Also, In regard to fututre editions. I'm wanting to do one using footage from an east coast engine first. After that, who knows?

  • I would also love a 4449 edition, PLEASE? Awesome! I love the scene with the 4449. It was funny because I saw the 844 and 4449 together last month. Another Five Stars! Keep them coming!

  • WOW Even 4449 And 1522 Are in it.

    How about a 4449 Edition ?

    And A 3985 Edition ?

  • That was kick awesome at 1:17 with the 844 and 4449 side by side. In fact, last month, the exact same engines doubleheaded together in Washington State.

  • i like that engine

  • Cool. Looks like you haven't uploaded a vid in a while.

  • Marvelous! Just marvelous! This is truly a true tribute to UP 844!
