@tredub91 It's easy. Get Microsoft Flight Simulator X, and get a good payware aircraft (Like PMDG 747-400 or a CLS). Flying a real airplane is different than the simulator, but you can get familiarized with the buttons and switchs, and instruments and what they do. And you could learn airplane terminalogy and the phonetic alphabet.

this is the one thing i never got. on the 747-200, 300, there is no FMS. so how would they navigate. would they just track VOR's. or would they have a navigator in the flight deck telling them the diffrent jetways/victor airways on a sectional chart...

As far as I understand it, they have normal VOR & ADF/NDB navigation as well as the ability to input Lat/Long co-ordinates into the INS systems, basically a primitive FMC. They could input maybe 10 or so co-ordinates into it, then reuse each one once they'd passed its position.

I think the INS input panel is situated in the same place as the FMC, left & right of the throttles, whch I think you can just see on tis video.
