  • well that was a pick-me-up..

  • I wonder if he shot this MOS…

  • I know I'm not grasping the immense depth of the semi-metaphorical message here, but wow, I want those cars. Pretty much all of them.

Ebay motors, get ready for some major drooling...

  • EDGAR RIGHT SENT ME LOL THUMBS UP

  • I love this. What a brilliant array of classic cars. I especially like the convertible Panhard, the Renault 4CV and the NSU Sport Prinz. Brilliant! LG.

  • Cualquier parecido con el día a día de las avenidas de Monterrey es mera coincidencia : (

  • come to Jakarta & this is what goes on everyday

  • while this is a very important film, the short story it is based upon it's much more complex (and fun)... a beatiful work by julio cortázar

  • its a great piece of cinema must have taken a hours to get done /

  • THIS MAN IS THE GODFATHER OF CINEMA!

  • Christ almighty this had to have taken forever to set up. Michael Bay would have just blown everything up after the first minute.

  • @Hollandx French directors work differently they work extempore, they believe in creativity as an accident. Of course they must have planned it very well on paper and exposed many takes.

  • hahahaha, terrific and bizar!

  • You've inspired me to revisit the Godard canon. I studied his films vigorously in college years ago... it's time!

  • Un film leggendario di un autore leggendario :-)

  • @elbuitre70

inspired by Julio Cortazar: La autopista del sur.

  • one of the most astonishing set pieces ever burned on film stock...

  • it took me about half way through the shot to realize it was supposed to annoy me,and then couldn't stop laughing.I was the only one in my class that seemed to understand it was funny;none of the people want to let them in but by not letting them in they're going further down.the two are intent on fitting in the jam so that it seems they failed when they accidentally bypass the entire thing.this scene is a great examination of the nature of gaze and what drives narrative, characters or camera?

  • stop on 51 and look at the reflection in the rear passenger window, there you have a camera and camera man

  • @mradamcooley, well that would explain it. yeah, criterion dvds are a bit pricey, lol. i only buy criterion if its a film i really want to see or a director i like. if they released weekend i would definately buy it.

  • this film, and this scene in particular, got me into godard, about a year ago. seen everything he's done since then. this is still one of his best films. i highly reccomend slow motion (aka every man for himself), oh woe is me, pierrot le fou, my life to live, and king lear...

  • never seen this (or any godard film) but this is a pretty great scene. its partly ruined in my opinion by the title flashes that kind of destroy the whole one take aspect of it. maybe they were inserted to hide a mistake. otherwise an incredible scene. really want to see this but cant find a reasonably priced dvd. wish criterion would release it.

  • no, it was 3 takes, that's why there are intertitles. criterion is releasing this, and also releasing my life to live. wouldn't call their prices reasonable though, haha.

  • Anyway you can upload the whole film? I'm dying to see it but the cheapest DVD I can find is fifty-five bucks.

  • The camera and operator are visible in reflection from :50 - :54, though it's probably not quite accurate to call it a "mistake."

  • @jackal59 So, can we call this movie a 'high brow B grade' then?

  • I watched this in the cinema today. Godard didn't intend for us to enjoy this film. It's supposed to be unpleasurable to its audience. Le Camera Sylo is in full effect. New wave. I didn't enjoy it but it had it's funny moments.

  • well, he failed then, because I enjoyed it. Haha.

  • .. absolutely amazing how Goddard captured the essence of the Automotive Class in World Culture.

  • Most amazing (and longest?) tracking sequence in film history.

  • i think satantango has them..

  • amazing

  • STILL too stupid (2009), read the idiot bloggers - they'd rather DIE than quit - or really THINK!

  • Too stupid to invent furl-less self-propelled transport: workers, "scientists", capitalists, students, avant-garde film-makers - ALL TOO STUPID! Air turbines with magnetic vibration plus solar roof supplement on dual mag-drive wheels will do nicely: no fuel/ no motor/ no batteries. Yes we know what Cuba, Ukraine, Siberia did & public transportation cretins. By the way, Estelle began making mag-drives in 1967!

  • Of course, the brilliance of this scene was putting it out in the countryside. This is one of those unforgettable scenes which just sears onto your brain like a brand.

  • A Renault 4CV followed by a DS Coupe. Thats a classy traffic jam.

  • fo sho!
