1. Let me start by saying that I am French and I may make some mistake in my wording. The questions I have for you are the following:
a) I am also 5ft 7in and wonder if you have asked for a "Lowering Kit (790 mm)" and also asked for a "Low Seat (820 mm)" to be installed on your R1200GS ?
b) Can you not press the button "ABS" button to turn it off instead of removing it from the wheel?
2. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
We're the same height and I ride the GS with no alteration to ride height and also have the stock seat in the high position. I merely just slide my butt off to one side at stops, otherwise it's no problem on the street.
On the ABS, it's a bit more complicated than just pushing the button to deactivate the ABS. You have to be at a stop, push the button and perhaps turn the bike off to deactivate the ABS. Too much trouble in my opinion when I ride off road.
I live in LA, and its always a treat to go Alice's in Woodside..a very special place..two days ago drove up and back from SLO, and it was worth it to drive 3 hours and 30 minutes each way for their fabulous pie ala mode....Thanks for posting :) If anyone sees me on freeway in LA, driving a green Volvo with Alices's Rest. license plate frame..say hey..
Yea for a lot of us, it depends on what you're comfortable with. I'm 5'7" with a 30" inseem and don't even have a hope of tip toeing on both feet, but still I find it no problem.
Lovely video!. Congratulations. I just bought an 08 V-Rod (HD), but after watch this video, I am having serious regrets. For sure, my next bike (N°16) will be the great 1200GS. Regards from Chile!
The V-Rod is a nice bike too, just different emphasis on the type of riding. If you're around more dirt or gravel roads and that's what you like to ride, thne the GS is definitely a better tool. Lots of dirt roads in Chile?
Yes. Many on the north and south part of the country. Actually I dont use to ride on that areas, but some streets here are in so bad shape, that I wanted something with soft and long suspentions. ;-)
Nice video, good sound, not too much wind just the motor. Your camera, is it fixed on your bike or support on yourself. It's a good lesson, interesting to watch with you where a motorcycliste must to look when is driving this kind a road. What kind a tire you had for this ride. I'll have to change mine pretty soon!(o5 gs)
Good day Doctor!

Were you on Hwy 17?
teufelhunden70 3 years ago
No, that was on Hwy 84 otherwise known as Woodside Road in the town of Woodside, CA

Cool...thanks. I love your bike! I would like to get a GS, but the seat is just to high for me. I might end up getting an R1200R

The camera is mounted to my handlebars and I'm running the Anakens on my GS which I'm pretty happy with.

Great Video. Is hwy 35 as smooth as it looks?
sackcheck 4 years ago
It's not new tarmac smooth, but pretty close with a couple of exceptions.
docwong 4 years ago
But no surprise washboard ruts. Those can be a pain going through a turn.
sackcheck 4 years ago
Yes, washboard ruts can be surprising in the middle of a turn! Bad for traction! ;-)

Yes, the Alice's/4 Corners area is quite the meeting spot on weekends for motorcyclists.
