It is really important to make sure your BH is let in the house. If not, you will (believe me) hear about it. Lots of barking. Second, lots of people think Bassets are 'little'. They're not. They just have little legs. They need lots of excercise. I envy you. I have a great condo about 6 blocks from the white house, and the bylaws don't allow pets. Bummer. I'd have a BH in a NY second. Great dogs. Have FUN!!

Dear Mecrazy, congratulations. You will love your Basset. My mother died when I was only five, and to bring me out of my sadness, my dad got our family a basset. She did the trick and brought smiles back to our faces. There was a family down the road with a Basset named 'Bugatti'. more to come

I had no idea what that meant, but was told a Bugatti was a very stylish Italian roadster. They're long, sleek and close to the ground (sound familiar?). We loved "Bugs" too. You cannot find a better breed for children. Good luck !!

i used to have a Basset Hound mix (never knew what she had) and i loved her to death but sadly i lost her. she became seriously ill and the vet didnt know what was wrong with and sent her and told us to bring her back in if nothing changes.

I lost a Cocker Spaniel to old age a few years ago, and I had to take a week off work.

I was heartbroken.

By the way, the Basset Hound is rated as being one of of most intelligent dogs in the dog world.
