  • both versions are bad ass, this song is the fucking badass so much emotion is captured in it its fucking crazy and the fucking bass....just a badass song!

  • I love both deftones and helmets version, fuck u haters <3

  • Of course Helmet's version is better - Its the original for one, but the leads have so much different mood, the high vocals match them, and the bass is SICK chunky, snare's thick and snappy. Its heavy as your mother-in-law. Not taking away from Deftones- they won't argue this, there's a reason they chose to cover this and did a damn good job at giving respect. Love their version too- God bless Deftones for covering this or my ignorant-stupid ass still wouldn't be into Helmet!

  • i loveit

  • fuck the deftones. HELMET!!!

  • Helmet rules!!!!!!

  • Under-------------------Rated

  • this is the sound that going me melomaniac HELMET adicted!!

  • Helmet is a huge influence on Chino and the band for that matter. Not to sure why Helmet gets the bad rep they do, they are such a great band they hit all ends of the spectrum, Monochrome is such a underrated album from them. According to wikipedia Helmet formed in 89, and the Deftones formed in 88. Not to sure how reliable that info is but I believe Helmet formed before, just enjoy both bands for fucks sake.

  • Deftones =)

  • @draigenkan A big NO to both if you're implying the Deftones came first or their version is better=)

  • @burnikshrapnel Well, Deftones were formed in 1988. Someone could think Deftones' version is better or Helmet's original is better.

  • @burnikshrapnel: All he said was Deftones, no need to get defensive.

  • strap it on = album destruidor, bons tempos quando o helmet era excelente e não mediano como atualmente.

  • THIS AND DEFTONES ARE BOTH KILLER.

  • music is truly dope but the singer is so lame..

  • deftones version of this is AWESOME!

  • FILETE

  • AWESOME song! Hey can you post that song Rude from this album

  • 'tones would cover this

  • dude, i saw helmet open for TAD in 1990, and we were knocked out by the power of what they were doing. It was the combination of crushing heaviness, tight rhythms and song structure, with a dash of otherworldliness - like JS Bach or something? They were definitely channeling something god-like. In the same summer I saw Kurt Cobain on stage in the same little club. He had the same amazing god-like quality, er.. cant put my finger on it in words...

TAD was heavy but couldnt impress aftr that!

  • @shimmering1000 Back in the day bands flourished.. It sucks that were not offering anything more than what we have now..

  • @sxVodkaAddiction I don't know what you're talking about. There's plenty of unique interesting bands, that nobody wants to listen to because they speak in other languages, or because they can't appreciate the genres they take root from. I have to say that Aggrotech music is one of the most amazing genres of music I've ever heard in my life. It's like finding metal for a second time.

  • deftones wish they were as good. bless

  • this version rules, and no more

  • Guys I love Deftones as much as the next guy but this is Helmet..

  • I hate everything as much as I hate me!!!!!!!!

  • Deftones is probably my fav. band but I like this original version more. Pages voice just fits better somehow

  • @mrtheroosterdude @imthedeadlycracka that was meant as a sarcastic question. i can't imagine deftones better than this (or jawbox, or cocteau twins, for that matter). guess it's a matter of opinion 'nyway.

  • I had this album, wtf happened to it?

  • I always have a certain appreciation for originals. I like Chino's vocals better, though.

  • who's deftones?

  • @tourettes84 an awesome band

  • @tourettes84 whoa whoa whoa are you serious they are the band among all other bands

  • Did the deftones cover helmet or did helmet cover the deftones?

  • @DomnulSarb deftones covered it

  • @DomnulSarb deftones covreed helmet

  • she just lives here....

  • This song is a Masterpiece, thanks Page for all you do. Rumor has it that this song was written when Page was 19 yrs old.... that's over 30 years ago! Talk about ahead of his time. HELMET!!!

  • @6james6DEMON6 then what the fuck are you doing here ? die! find a way to go back to the 80's

  • @6james6DEMON6 Fuck off.

  • Helmet have and will always be one of the top few bands that i continue to love throughout my life. Its always a refreshing taste when i listen to them.

  • Saturday Night Wrist sux

  • Helmet had a huge influence on Deftones.

I disagree on your recent Deftones rankings. Diamond Eyes is their best work since White Pony, SNW was a let-down, and I'd like to hear them take back some of their early, raw, more Helmet-esque sound. Back when they could pummel your ass. Diamond Eyes is great, but a lot cleaner, more mainstream, less raw.

  • @aggiebem i disagree, what i liked about deftones is that they mixed brutal riffs with melodic vocals even making the riffs seem deep and reflective and i have never heard a sound like that before. but when i listened to diomand eyes the two elements seemed too separate. but i have only listened to diomand eyes the song so meybe im wrong.

  • @metalgrungefan123 Give the Diamond Eyes album a listen. I think you'll see what I mean. And the Diamond Eyes song itself took a few listens to grow on me, honestly, but I really like almost the entire album. There's maybe one song I skip. But it's definitely lighter and less raw than their early work.

  • @aggiebem ok, but it definatly seems less raw

  • fuckin' love the Deftones cover of this track

  • I looked up Helmet hoping to listen to something good/heavy and after listening to about 10 songs left disappointed.

  • @brainless14 ya i just did too. went through songs on every album and im convinced crashing foreign cars is their only good song which is too bad

  • @brainless14 Then you really live up to your screenname

  • @ibelieveicansoar

OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL NEVER HEARD THAT JOKE BEFORE OLOLOLOLOL

  • @brainless14 I believe you just proved his point.

  • Best Helmet album by far.

  • Jesus! I miss these guys!

  • this song i amazing

  • Gotta give credit to Helmet for making a song badass enough for Deftones to cover.

  • @ClaytonOT As much as I love Deftones, Helmet is an all around more original and more hardcore band. Songs like 'In the Meantime' are just, unbeatable. Although, if the rest of Deftones' album "Diamond Eyes" is as good as their single 'Rocket Skates', they'll be that much closer.

  • @Drratburn

I'll agree with you on the bit about Helmet being more hardcore (seeing as Deftones aren't even corish in anyway). However I'd say deftones are more original. While helmet has a unique sound, they don't experiment with other sounds as much as Deftones (at least not from what I've heard). Also if the rest of Diamond Eyes is like "Rocket Skates," it's gonna be their worst album. lol.

  • Are you fucking kidding me? If you don't like Rocket Skates, then you probably didn't like Around the Fur or White Pony, best albums by far. Adrenaline is such generic nu-metal, and Saturday Night Wrist was BLAND. Saying that Helmet was less experimental than Deftones makes you look like an idiot. Deftones have 3 simple styles: Rock, Techno-rock and Slow-Sappy Rock. Helmet's music is 1000s of times more complex instrumentally, and lyrically. Helmet cannot be duplicated, unlike nu-metal bands.

  • @Drratburn Actually White Pony was my fave, with Around the Fur in second. Helmet is just heavy, with different songs being different degrees of heavy (or at least as far as I've heard). and Team Sleep is cool, but their just like Deftones soft stuff meets Death Cab for Cutie.

As for "Rocket Skates", it was repetative and literaly about nothing, Chino has said that about it. It's easy to write a song about nothing. I liked it, just cuz it's Deftones, but it's probably bottom three for me.

  • I respect your opinion, but I disagree on songwriting. Personal lyrics can either be great, or they can be horribly corny/overdone. Even the best lyrics with a clear message are vague because of their simplicity. Abstract songs, I think, are more artistic. That's why I enjoyed their self titled album. It's hard to write abstract lyrics that perfectly match the atmosphere of the instrumentals. I'm honestly addicted to Rocket Skates. The entire album is said to be similar, so I'm excited.

  • BTW, it's fucking awesome to have an intelligent discussion with a Deftones' fan about Chino's song writing. There aren't ANY fucking Deftones' fans around here - Nu-metal couldn't be more dead where I am. Shame.

  • @Drratburn complete opposite around here dude! haha my whole group of friends just loves the 'tones like theres no tomorrow

  • @Drratburn nu-metal dying isnt a shame, but then again deftones arnt really numetal

  • @Drratburn "Nu-metal couldn't be more dead where I am. " You say that like it's a bad thing.

  • @jek21 My definition of Nu-metal was post-hardcore bands like Deftones and GlassJAw.

The NEW Nu-Metal is Deathcore. The band Emmure, their album Felony is like a hardcore version of Limp Bizkit with growling and rapping.

  • Also, if Deftones are more experimental, why is it that their first single in four years sounds like it belongs on an album they made 13 years ago?

Team Sleep (Chino's other band) is even more original than Deftones. Not that I don't love what the Defs are, but I won't lie and say they are complex, original or unique..or that they have a broad range of material - because that'd be lying

  • @Drratburn and I don't want you to get me wrong. I like Helmet, and they are unique, I just haven't heard as much range from them as from the Deftones. Listen all the way from Adrenaline to Saturday Night Wrist (including the B-side as Rarities), adn tell me they have no range and I'll know that you know nothing about music.

  • @shamusolarry Of course there is a giant difference in style and approach between Adrenaline and Saturday Night Wrist, but what band's music doesn't vary after eleven years worth of maturity and growth? However, White Pony sounds like Around the Fur, and Saturday Night Wrist sounds like their Self Titled - and Diamond Eyes, Chino himself stated, was written with the attempt to bring their sound and feel back to White Pony. However, in the case of Helmet, each album has it's own style and sound

  • Well, Diamond Eyes was leaked over 12 hours ago, and in HD quality. I've listened to the album 3 times already. I'm confident in saying that is their most artistic, passionate, aggresive and meaningful album to date. Diamond Eyes really could be the album that tops White Pony.

  • @Drratburn Saturday Night Wrist already topped White Pony but Diamond Eyes tops SNW

  • @ClaytonOT

A song doesn't have to be *that* badass for Deftones to cover it. Case and point: "Ordinary Love"

  • If I had to pick one line from one song to define my early 90's, it'd be "I hate everything as much as I hate me".

  • vocals of chino in deftones version are better, sounds more...emotional, anyway - great choise by deftones with covering this song

  • so underrated

  • ...everyone is right! :)

  • both are great fuckin bands...

  • Deftones did this so much better. I think it's the vocals. Helmet are legends and all, but I just don't see the attraction.

  • helmet made this what it is. peace out.

  • I gotta disagree. Personally, I find Helmet's version to have an odd kind of grit to it. That said, I do prefer Deftones' version.

  • cmon people listen to this.your missing something.

  • Pure Noise Rock
