I was in Basic Training at Ft. Rucker in 1966 with the younger Joe. I knew him, and enjoyed the concerts he put on, especially Wipeout. I'll have to find him one of these days. Steve Welty
I have been looking for relatives of the Willis Brothers and anyone that knows some direct decendants please contact me at opryman65@yahoo.com - I am a huge Willis Brothers fan (including "Bob" and so many others)
Thanks for the post. Their blending of voice and instruments was a unique sound that is, unfortunately, mostly forgotten.
Their biggest success came with their trucking songs of the 60's (40 acres etc) but to me they were even better in their previous incarnation as something of a hillbilly act. They did stuff like Roly Poly, Eat A Little More, I Still Do and their Cincinnati Dancin' Pig was great. Anybody that could post some of that older stuff would be doing all Willis fans a big favor.
Steve Kramer is the son of Guy Willis Kramer and grandson of Eugene AKA Gene brother of James Aka Guy, Charles Aka Skeeter, & John Aka Vic Willis. I'm also the granddaughter of Eugene. Steve Willis is my father. My dad and I just found his two brothers, sister, and their families from Eugene and his first wife. Made my dad so happy to finally find his siblings he had never met.
They were great, and after the loss of Guy and Skeeter, Vic carried on beautifully with his trio and they obviously were characters--and incredible talents.
Wow, I just ran across this. My dad , Aubra Kinyon (cousin of the Willis Brothers) grew up with the boys. I heard about them all my life. Can't wait to show him this!
I really enjoyed their singing, they had great harmony. They love to cut up and have fun. Their mother Bertha Pack, Willis was my Grandpa Richard (Poley) Pack's brother. I would love to get in touch with the kinfolks
Hi- Bertha Pack was my grandpa Poley Pack's sister. My mother and the Willis brothers were first cousins. She talked of them often. Would love to keep in contact with the kinfolks.
@fozandjo Hi my name is Joe Willis, Joe was my father who performed with Guy and Skeeter in the early days before coming to Kansas City. I also performed with them on the road and the Opry from 1968 until 1978. I have a youtube site "charliehorsebassman" which has several videos of our band "Charlie Horse Band" I play bass, vocals, harmony vocals with our band. I was at Jim and Joys before Guy's son Jim passed away and I heard joy talk of Poley many times. 1002 S. College, Nevada, Mo 64772
Skeeter was my uncle, by marriage to my father's sister, Lois. I lost contact with Lois and her daughter, Phyllis Coats, after my dad passed away. Last contact with Lois was in Chattanooga Tn. Phyllis was traveling with her husband Phil. Do you have any information regarding Lois or Phyllis?
I responded to the wrong post - Skeeter was my grandpa and Phil and Phyllis my parents. Mom and Dad had long happy life together and she passed away in December 2000. Grandma (lois) passed away this past summer.
Who would of guessed we would find all sorts of family on u-tube! pcknutson is my sister, Phyllis my mother, Lois my grandmother. And my sister has provided the sad news of our mother and grandmothers passing. Is Clifford or Claire your father? I have also recently connected with their 1st cousin Cecilia Bell. Would love to connect. I know so little about the Kelley family.
The Willis Brothers discovered Porter Wagner. My grandfather is Guy Willis. This was one of my favorite songs they did. They always had fun performing! I miss them!
Hi, Guy Willis was my mother's first cousin. She wrote Guy and Lois often. The WIllis brother came to visit her in Pittsburg, Oklahoma and we got to see them perform around the Okmulgee area many years ago. I love the stories she use to tell us about them. She thought a lot of them.

skeeter, guy and vic...three really original characters, great fellas, and really good musicians to boot.
my daddy played lap steel for them a bit, when Chuck Wright was their bass player...they were always SO good to all us little snot-nosed kids...
this is REAL country music...fun, happy, entertaining.
