  • I live in England i am not a unionist Scot although i do know quite a few of them. I am in no way anti Scottish, i love Scotland, if i hated Scotland why would i be so against it leaving the UK? I see Scotland as part of my country, my country is not England, its the United Kingdom. I am British.

I think Scotland benefits from being part of the UK and there are many examples of this. Scotland has a huge amount to be proud of, its accomplished so much and its best years have been since the union

  • There are some English nationlists yes, although the overwhelming majority of people in England do no want to see the United Kingdom break up.

  • Some may automatically think british = English but that is not accurate and not everyone thinks along those lines. We could do more to explain this all to other countries. But we know Scottish people who have Britain or British in their name. That doesnt make them English or want to be English.. they are just Scottish and British.

  • Fighting along side each other which ofcourse we would do is not the same as sharin assets and being one United Kingdom. Working together we have a great navy, much of it built in Scotland but if we were independent countries Englands naval contracts would likely be placed within England, and an independent Scotland would not need nor want a large navy.

As for bliar he did kiss bushes ass, but its right we stand behind our allies. Iraq is a democratic country today. Im glad saddams gone

  • No serious polling is done in England on the independence issue, but very few vote for a party like the English democrats who want a break up of the UK.

The United Kingdom is a country, but its a country made up of countries, (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). We are so much stronger united and when working together. Devolution means most day to day issues are handled within Scotland anyway, Health, Education, Policing, culture etc.

The Scottish Regiment represents Scotland well

  • England and Scotland are small compared to many countries, considering we are entering a period with the rise of the east, why do you think nows a good time to break up the uk? when thers China and India which are huge growing and could 1 day be a threat.

some polls in England may show maority support break up of the UK, its not a serious ambition of support, only a tiny number go to english nationalists here

many more powers could go to the Scottish parliament, without the break up of the UK

  • Maggie didnt want to force Scots to support the English team just that there was better things within Scotland that money could have been spent on, I saw this mentioned on Newsnight Scotland last night

You know fightin the wars was not the only great thing we did together, England and Scotland before the union were both relatively minor European powers, we went on to become a super power, created the largest empire in history and have played a huge role in creating the modern world. Why end it?

  • The UK government ban on the kilt was only for about 40 years, it was at the time when the kilt was not seen as an image of the whole of Scotland, it was only associated with the highland clans and the ban was in response to the jacobites (who were not fighting for an end to union but wanted a different British monarch). this country has had anti catholic, anti jewish and islamic laws in the past. It does not mean that people of those communities can not take pride in Britain or feel part of it

  • Not to mention the fact that Britain was the biggest slave trading nation before the ban, and yet blacks are able to live here happily and feel British.

It is true that in the past not enough was done to preserve different cultures and identities, but the UK is seeking to make up for that, with extra funding for things like languages. Scottish identity has remained though throughout 300 years of union. The fact you only feel Scottish proves this to be the case.

  • In the end it will be for the people in Scotland to decide in elections and if 1 is required a referendum. But seeing my country split up certainly is a concern for me and i have the right to state my opinion on these matters

We want Scotland to remain part of our country because we are all British together. We dont want our country split in 4. We have accomplished so much more than just beating the nazis, what about ww1, the French? What about the British Empire which helped make todays world

  • far more want to remain part of the UK than become independent. Almost all polls show a majorty against independence, and votes for political parties also back this up with unionist parties getting over 60% of the votes.

  • @TheBritishWatcher things seem to have changed a bit now, don't they?
