  • The production is by the Australian Opera and was performed in the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House and not in the much smaller Opera Theatre.

  • La Stupenda, as she was known by the worlds opera elite

youtube search dad and dave radioof the 30's for the show she was in...also try "On our selection" for the movie version

  • LA MAS ELEGANTE Y EXUBERANTE VIUDA ALEGRE........CON UN CONTONEO.PROPIO DE ELLA SOLO Y SOLO DE ELLA QUE ERA LA QUE TENIA LA VOZ ADECUADA PARA EL CONTONEO ADECUADO........TODO UN LUJO SOBRE EL ESCENARIO...............BELLISIMA.........ADORABLE......RICA Y SOBRADA DE GLORIA VOCAL..........

  • Robert Ray's choreography, I believe.

  • Does anyone else totally think "Hello Dolly" with this clip?

  • It's almost the same time period ;)

  • I know! Would've been cool if she was in Hello Dolly. Eat your heart out, Carol Channing!!

  • I loved Joan Sutherland in this role and the production as conceived and led by Richard Bonynge seems so Edwardian and witty as Strauss surely intended it. Other productions seem so bland compared to this one.

  • @KathrynBoussemart Strauss? Lehar!

Thank you for all these Merry Widow vid. Joan made a movie in early 90s in Australia any chance of getting some of her clips.

    John

  • Wow! This must be quite rare. Sutherland was still mostly at her greatest vocal shape in 1978 and she shows that in this amazing Hanna's entrance. She also looks surprisingly young at 52. Maybe Sills' video of this aria is a little more cheerful, but Sutherland's has so much elegance and natural joy! ;-)

  • love it,thanks sue

  • Does anyone know where I can find "A LIFE ON THE MOVE" video that's playable in the USA?

    Thanks!

  • Oh my God, you are right!! I´m so sorry for the mistake. This performance is from Australia, I´not sure if it was Melbourne or Sydney. Highbaritone, thank you for correcting me.

  • Hi SueAnn, can you find any video of her "Dad and Dave" show that she did in Australis in the mid-90's?

  • This is from Sydney not SF. But very glad to see it. I think this is also from A Life on the Move.

  • I saw Joan in 1980 doing the same Widow in Melbourne, she was wonderful!!

  • sue!!? what are you doing to me?

    THANKS
