You said it at 8:05, man. I couldn't agree more. I go to art school and a handful of the professors have always held Picasso with such high regard without giving any valid reason. I even had one instructor (for a COLOR THEORY class) who made us do an assignment that required us to make "master copies" of Picasso's Guernica. Look it up, you'll see what I mean. I never had the balls to call the instructor out on his bullshit, which I regret.
I do not think so. Because enjoyment is enjoyment. Denying enjoyment is denying a fundamental and natural human desire, which is irrational. Enjoyment only becomes un-objectivist if it stops other people from accomplishing anything they would like, otherwise, enjoying a picnic on a sunny day is rational and objectivist.
take a day off from work and celebrate the supreme gift of life they were given. There is a difference between Roark and the people in the car, but is Roark necessarily better than them if they acquired their car, ukulele, food, and everything else they have by working honestly in whatever their profession may be? Would Rand criticize people for enjoying life?
I just watched your video and I had a question about the second quote you read, the one about the people in the car on their way to having a picnic. I feel that Rand isn't attempting to portray the people in the quotation as essentially un-objectivist. Although Ms. Rand does hold that the pleasure of one's life should come from doing intellectual, advanced, or just generally "good" work, I find it incongruous for her to condemn the natural desires of the human to once, in a while,
Good quotes. I want to add a personal favourite, "So if you seek a glimpse of greatness, if you want exaltation,if you ask for God and refuse to accept the washing of wounds as substitute- you're called a hater of humanity, Mrs Keating, because you've committed the crime of knowing a love humanity has not learned to deserve."
One thing you've mentioned was the fact that those artists depraved the progress of society. What makes Kandinsky an idiot? What makes James Joyce a poor writer? gd to knw
There is no essential difference between collectivism and mysticism - collectivism is inherently mystical and mysticism is inherently collectivistic, i.e. anti-mind, i.e. anti-individual.
Thank you for your reply. I noticed in one of your videos--specifically the one concerning your favorite Fountainhead quotes--that you did not think that Joyce wrote legitimate literature. When I read it, he seemed very clear that the individual mind is more important than groupthink. There is a similar situation with Picasso. There's no questioning that he had artistic chops, he could do any style of painting masterfully at the age of 17 but chose to invent his own manner of expression.
(Cont.) I mean, he choose a style that was symbolic to himself and only himself. It seems he would be very egoistic. He could paint as well as any artist that came before him and he choose to do things in the manner that he saw fit based on his mental representation of reality.

Haha, you seem like such and ignorant bastard, who wants to hide it so bad. Ayn Rand along with her weak 'philosophy' of objectivism is a joke. you're a joke... you might make a good mechanic or short-order cook, but you're not an intellectaul, not by any stretch of the word..... and, what you're reading also lacks 'intellectual content'. I wouldn't normally bash you, if you weren't reading such trash... with such little "intellectual content". haha
Don't stop even so long as there is one of us willing to listen. You'll teach because you have to, Because it's your life, Because you love it, You'll do it til the day you die. There are those of us out here who will study and learn til the very end for the same reasons that you teach.
Thanks for the video or videos. I enjoy them.I plan to read Fountainhead, Anthem, and Atlas Shrugged soon. Can you reccommend me some other literature books you really enjoyed that are worth reading? Id appreciate it.
The quote that starts at about 4:20 was one of the most striking ones when I first read the Fountainhead. It's tragically easy to settle into a tedious day-to-day existence, living for the sake of one's days off. I think it's how most people lose their fire.
I really like the Lois Cook quote. Ayn Rand portrayed the non-conformists brilliantly. Doing the exact opposite as everyone else is just as bad as doing the same as everyone else! You are still basing your life on other people!
That first quote is very true, simular to "you can't argue with an idoit". Btw these videos might be a bit useful to me. Theres a essay contest I almost joined where you wrote something on the Fountainhead. I had the paper almost done and it was pretty kickass, but I accidently redid my computer and I hate doing things over agian. Some of the quotes u say here might be some of the ones I used, so plz keep saying the page numbers. ^__^ I like the one of page 144, I could get into more goverment..
with that quote, even though I would rather do the Atlas Shurgged essay, but I got time for that one. And about art I'm probaly one of the peopl you don't like in that catogorey. I see something and I usally like it, espiceally if its different (not pubic hair different but still...). Btw you like El Greco? And as for compasion, I don't like compasion. It makes me sad, so then I try and do something so I wont have to have compassion. I even have a happy box in my purse. ^__^ Good job on video.
I toke art apreiciation. I don't think it was bad... but I'm pretty mellow when it comes to art. Unless the art is of a giant eating a baby and the media is pubic hair, but that must have taken some skill though. I kind of like the music in the background. ^__^ Btw it seems you enjoyed the Fountainhead more than Atlas Shurrged. Its thats true you should do a video stating why, I liked Atlas Shurrged better, maybe because it was more political.
Who do you consider a great artist?

Honest serious question:
Is there a difference between collectivists and Altruists. If so what are they?

As usual, lots of bashing with no evidence or examples to speak of. You're quite the authority on what being an intellectual means aren't you.
Sam26100 2 years ago 2
@capitalcontested
- You misspelled intellectual
- You misused "..."
- "I wouldn't normally bash you, if you weren't reading such trash." Do you mean "I would not normally bash you but you are reading trash."
- Comma mistakes -- I believe that speaks for itself.
- Why is the dependent clause "with such little 'intellectual content" hanging at there, at the end?

Henrik Ibsen is the only benevolent one that comes to mind. Dostoyevsky is good generally speaking.
