  • Hey chef, you ever have Upper Michigan Pickled Eggs? They're spicy and amazing. Not sweet. Vinegar, water, salt, tobasco, onion, jalapeno, and eggs.

  • that's one manly strainer u got there

  • I hate pickles but for some reason... Me... wants... this. :O

  • @veuran They taste nothing like pickles. They taste like jalapenos with a slightly sweet ending. Excellent on any mexican food.

  • This video came at the perfect time, I use raw sugar hat is the ratio of salt to sugar. Also I have about 4 peppers what do I do to preserve this for longer?

  • How do you keep your hands from burning when you cut up the peppers??

  • Whats the point of eating pickled jalapenos if 95% of the heat is gone?

  • Could you use a mandolin to slice these rings?

  • @spokehedz No. There is only 1 correct method to slicing Jalapenos. If you even attempt another method, you will be immediately arrested and imprisoned. You should be reported for just merely questioning whether you could use a mandolin to slice the rings. Shame on you.

  • @spokehedz Yes u can .. not chief john BUT u can

  • No tappa tappa?

  • @R6bbie wrong

  • Hello Chef John, i love the pot, would u mind telling me what type of pot that is? Steel or cast iron??

  • @LaydeeKye i believe its a le creuset pot they have them on amazon i think they are cast iron

  • @kidsandjazz Thank u so much for giving me this info i really appreciate it, take care and i will check it out now thanks again

  • @LaydeeKye oh no problem i was looking at them 2 weeks ago they are so nice and come in nice colors too

  • @kidsandjazz wow ok, i saw some online after u gave me the info and i am really considering getting some. I think i will prob purchase some within the next week or so. thnx for everything!!

  • WOW... best idea ever. I LOVE pickled jalapenos.

  • Cute strainer, Chef John.

  • For anyone interested...hotter jalapenos can be bought when the heat of summer stresses the plants. Heat stressed plants will grow jalapenos that have light brown/somewhat hairy streaks running the length of the fruit.

  • Do you know a guy named Mark Crilley? You remind me of him...

  • nooo why yoy take the heat off??? T^T im mexican, a hot pepper without heat isn't a chilli :(

  • SMALL Pickled Jalapeno Peppers RINGS IN A JAR!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT HAHAHA

  • Chef John's fingernails are clean and even, like a boss.

  • @Theshamruck than robjnixon

  • All I could think about after 0:50 was "DONT TOUCH YOUR EYES. DONT TOUCH YOUR EYES!"

  • Hey Chef, thanks for all your wonderful videos... quick question? I know you said these are best used in a few days? Would they last say up to two weeks or so using this method? Thanks, LOVE your stuff!!

  • Looks lovely - can u tell me where u brought the jar from or what that type of jar is called please. I like to make pickles and have a similar recipe but it includes onions scotch bonnet peppers carrots, I never seem to have the right jar for them. Thanks

  • @datacash hey just saw your question and the jars Chef John used in this video usually are called "mason jars" and the brand name one usually finds in the grocery store is called "Ball or Kerr" jars. You have to purchase the jars, then separately the lids for sealing them if you are planning on using a proper canning method.

  • I must say chef john, the longer the better

  • how about how to make jalapeno poppers!!!!!!

  • Love it, thanks Chef John.

  • your taking the heat out of a chilli and your saying it as if its a good thing? :|

  • things you can make in a college dorm video? :D

  • @cptincredble

Why would you want a video about how to make instant ramen.

  • you didn't do anything wrong!!! .... THIS TIME.

  • Thanks Chef!!

  • i don't even like jalapenos, but i'm watching this anyway. <3

  • what if you want to keep some of the heat?

  • @spike339 use hotter peppers? add some hot sauce to it? don't do the washing step as he mentioned in the video..? use common sense man

  • These rings off fire will light my ring on fire...

    :(

  • Can you pleeeeease make a jalapeno popper recipe? I tried to make it and it was so bland and not spicy at all.

  • 1:21 can u read oregano leaves? :O

  • @foodwishes How did you avoid burning hands from the oils of the jalapenos?

  • @TtheAnimal Jalapeños don't have enough spice to burn your hands with the oils unless you are super sensitive. They will burn your eyes some what, but not too bad. The only ones what burn your hands to an uncomfortable level are like thai chilies, or habaneros. Something of that magnitude. If you want you can always were powder free latex gloves.

  • @TtheAnimal He's Chef John. He has majestic super chef powers.

  • This is why I like your recipes. Fresh and so easy. I want some now! I don't own much pickled stuff. I believe that I have a few Bread and Butter pickles left in a jar in my fridge from Christmas. (Store bought). I crave the heat. Oh, I have some corn relish as well! Can you show us a recipe on how to make corn relish? No pressure. Hot dog season is near us.

  • Nice knife skill.

  • beer battered and fried up. A great burger topper.

  • Mmmmmmmmm. Gonna make me some now. Thanks Chef!

  • Ahhhhhh. So delicious. *mouth watering*

  • Chef, how long do these keep in the fridge?

  • Just made this, it turned out great and tastes even greater, thank you Chef John for the awesome method, this was my first time pickling anything!

  • Word of warning... if you have never sliced fresh jalapenos before (or any spicy pepper for that matter) please please please wear gloves before you handle them. Even whole and unsliced they can burn you. Some people can use regular latex gloves like a doctor wears, but for those of us sensitive to the burn, a pair of clean yellow dish washing gloves are needed.

You may think I'm over exaggerating, but when your hands are literarily throbbing in pain by the end of the day, you will understand.

  • @crisscross1985 BTW, Loved the recipe, Chef John. Even my Mexican neighbors said it was good. :)

  • Chef John! Make Falafels!!!!11

  • I've been thinking of making some with rice vinegar, does that sound like a good idea?

  • want new breakfast recipes please :) always don't know what to eat in the mornings.

  • I don't even like jalapenos, but I love watching your videos, John!

  • The last time I tried cutting up jalapenos it later felt like held my hand on the stove.

  • @blanknot lol gloves, or wash your hands in milk

  • I just bought 10 jalapenos at the farmers market..

    Are you a wizard??

  • I hope your wife didn't feel the burn later. A guy did that to me once, it killed the romance lol. Hotness sticks to your hands even if you wash them lazily like that ass.

  • @TheDevineBeing You're an idiot

  • Everyone should do themselves a huge favour and try eating a fresh AND RIPE Jalepeno!!!

  • @mschdk close enough

  • Given those peppers the ol' packa packa?

  • @mrdee53 I gave your dad the "ol' packa packa" in the butt last night ;)

  • @TheDevineBeing I second that, only I'm going to go ahead and say your a fucking tool idiot.

  • Waaaaait... wait wait wait wait wait...

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO CHEF JOHN?

CHEF JOHN ALWAYS DOES THE TAPPA TAPPA!

  • how about healthy snack videos? =]

  • @pixiecozmica How about no?

  • @pixiecozmica lol wut?

  • @pixiecozmica Pickled jalapeños are unhealthy?

  • @pixiecozmica Lmao... Healthey snack video. You should be a comedian. =]

  • @pixiecozmica the hell?

  • @dethwizard yes?

  • water? um

  • If you don't wanna Kill your vitamins Do Not add vinegar!

  • @andreilucaci81 ...If you don't add vinegar, you're not pickling them. The whole point of this recipe is to pickle the jalapenos. You might as well just slice em and have em plain.

  • @andreilucaci81 Ummm, HE'S MAKING PICKLES. if you exclude the vinegar, all you have is peppers in sugar water...

  • What good is a jalapeno if not spicy? If more people ate raw fish, garlic and spicy food the world would be better place.

  • i want some of these!

  • Chef John's long nails are the secret to his cooking success obviously.

  • We NEED a LONG TERM Pickling Video Chef John!!!

  • don't touch your eyes!

  • @bkershaccount I learned the hard way...

  • ur a man, cut ur nails! lol

  • Nice. I enjoy all of your vids.

  • hello chef John, do you know any arabic recipe i heard it taste soo good.... thanxXx :D

  • Chef John can you change the way you talk cause I always fall asleep midway in your videos. You sir have the soothest narrating voice ever. A recipe for the books gonna try this today and as always I will Enjoy your food.

  • Chef John will this work with carrots? Ninfas in Houston has pickled carrots with arbols that are AWESOME.

  • @gerry3x this is a common pickling brine, I do the same thing with red onions for an amazing salad or taco topping.

  • lovely nails

  • why buy if you can just make them yourself! Thank you Chef John!!!

  • It*

  • I like crisp jalapenos...i works if u let the liquid a cool before adding peppers they stay for months

  • @anetha242 hmmm, how do they taste? do they still absorb the brine flavor this way?

  • @YoBootyStinks I don't taste it at all just the heat of the pepper. (cut a tab bit thicker on a bias) 1. boil jar, let cool. (ratio) 3/4 vinegar 1/4 water, more salt than sugar. boil to dissolve, cool, combine, seal.

  • @anetha242 Gotta Try that! Tell me, can you boil any jar? Won't the glass break under extreme heat?? or are u using canning jars?

  • @YoBootyStinks ive never had that problem i boil it because im re-using jars such as a tomato sauce jar. its only for a few seconds (top and jar separated). i think the only way possible for it to break is if your have the lid on allowing pressure to build inside the jar. (^^tad)

  • I had lots of problems picking. They would either be too sweet, to vinegary, or the seeds would start sprouting.

  • I love these on a roast beef samitch!

  • Whose manicured hand held up the jar at he end?

  • Can't. Stop. Watching.

    Just subbed today :)

    Wow. Yummy. All of it.

  • "... this time"

    Ouch, John, my poor confidence.

  • I buy pickled jalapeno pepper and they are HOT, although I love those I'd like to pickle them myself but keep their heat... So how do I do that ?

  • Sugar is like nicotine or heroin.

  • I've always hated jalapeños and I'm mexican!!!

  • Nagyon klassz!!!

  • My food wish is a simple one, a big beautiful jalapeño gourmet burger!

  • since it has garlic in it doesnt that mean that its kosher pickled

  • How long will these keep in the fridge before going bad?

  • @K2YL ive made a similar pickled sliced jalapeno, and it was a good 3 months before they started to get too mushy and bad.

  • If I want to make the hotter & spicier version of this pickle, is it okay to use much less sugar?

  • @EvanC0912 Use a hotter type of chili...

  • For some reason, I always watch your videos late at night/ in the wee hours of the morning. they always make me crazy hungry. and I never have any food to eat :(

  • Cool easy recipe. I am bringing this to mexican night at my university!

  • Chef John,

might it be a good idea to show how to vacuum-boil this for long term stocking? I would like to know how to do that, because I don't eat pepper related foods all that much.

  • Please show us how to do this but to store for a while longer. LOVE your vids, thank you for posting!

  • I could seriously never afford these many jalapenos! They are extremely expensive in sweden...

  • @raVen670 this where like 10 or so?!?

  • @Morigane90 Yeah, that would cost as much as a fancy restaurant dinner here! :o

  • @raVen670 wow, they are cheap in the States! can you grow your own in Springtime??
