  • This is a great version but i still can't beat Ben lewis. defiantly beats Ramin Karimloo though

  • This is excellent. Never heard of David Shannon before. He's certainly no Ramin, but he does a very good job. There's only one Ramin after all.

  • Wow! This made me smile and cry. If I ever see the show I know I will cry. The first time I saw "The Phantom of the Opera" I cried, and I have a feeling "Love Never Dies" will make me cry, also. I still dream of playing Christine, also, but I have to wait a few more years.

  • Beautiful voice. Doesn't stir my soul or wring my heart like Ramin's does, it's just a tad *too* flawless, but still powerful enough to impress.

  • Better than Ramin. Ramin is too nasal. Perhaps I am biased as a classical singer. I agree that Ramin's version has more agression, however this man's tone is definitely better.

  • @kcliffo8 Too true. I can never get into a song if things about the singer's voice throw me off. Ramin has too many things going against him for me to really and completely enjoy his performances. He's good, but not my ideal performer.

  • Very Beautiful, I Love it...so soft!

  • Quite a bit better than David Campbell's version of the song.

  • I saw David as Valjean the first time I ever saw Les Miserables and he's equally as brilliant singing this song. :D

  • I train with his singing teacher :)

  • it kinda sounds like he's struggling and he doesnt have the aggression like Ramin does... in my opinion, still great though.

  • not as good as Ramin though <3 but still phantastic

  • very very good :) you have an amazing voice

  • @101moviegod Actually it was recently announced that Love Never Dies in London is closing in August, so no ones replacing Ramin...

  • He's brilliant!! :D

  • I prefer this version to Ramin's. It has that something his doesn't

  • My wife and I saw/listened to David last Decembber for Christmas at the musicals in Glasgow. The guy was superb. A great voice. Good luck to him for his future.

  • @two1065 I was at that show too, David's rendition of Music of the Night was definitely one of the best performances that night. Hopefully he'll be back this December!

  • @HaloScotgal That would be great if he was. I saw him as Raoul i POTO and he was wonderful. A great voice. I can sing a bit but I know when I am beaten.

  • i've seen David as Raoul and as the Phantom, he has a beautiful voice! ^^

  • AWSOME! but I think ramin was made for this song, like michel crawford was made for music of the night. (in my opinon) :)

  • I like this version better than Ramin... Its beautiful! And i'm not even sure about this Musical..some of the songs are beautiful though!

  • AMAZING! This is on his album as well! David claims he 'used to be in musical theatre' and that he is focusing on singing now, which is a massive disappointment! I'd rank him below Ramin but way above Tam or the other understudies, in fact, I was really wishing he would be the replacemnt phantom after ramin leaves... Any ideas on who that will be now that Mr. Shannon is out of the question?

  • @101moviegod Well i would think Tam might get a shot, any other London phantoms are possible. Or maybe they'd cast someone who's never been involved with Phantom before, who knows? I'm thinking that since ALW just cast Michael Crawford to play The Wizard of Oz which is gonna be a limited run, maybe MC will stay in London and do some LND? I would hope so.

  • @CharmedBalthazar i very highly doubt that - somehow i cannot envisage a 69 year old man singing the beauty underneath - id love to see him in the phantom role again though

  • @CharmedBalthazar As amazing as MC returning to the phantom in any way shape or form I do not see it happening sadly, and MC's voice and LND do not seem like they would work, I mean MC is the best phantom IMO but the rock edge like in TBU would seem off but its a lovely thought perhaps another ALW CD with him singing select songs from LND....if not we can dream.

  • @101moviegod the show sucks, it will be closing

  • epiiccc that both of my casts when I was last in England are singing the songss<3 now I just need to hear Will Baratt's "Why Does She Love Me"!! :D

  • @musicalchix Hah i totally agree! Except i saw Simon Bailey as Raoul. And ofcourse Gina Beck and David Shannon as Chirstine and the Phantom respectivly. :) Glad you liked the video!

  • David gives a much more "tight" performance than Ramin. Ramin IS the best, I'm not disputing that - he offers raw emotion and a melodic belt voice, however david contrasts that well with a much softer version here. LIKE DAVID, LIKE RAMIN.

    Problem solved. ((:

  • @SuddenlySAMM Love them both too! They're so different!

  • @CharmedBalthazar thanks for all the positive and constructive comments , I'm a big Ramin fan and friend and love his version!!

  • @CharmedBalthazar Exactly! I'm probably one of the only few that loves to hear new interpretations or see new portrayals of iconic characters. I heard Tam Mutu sing this awhile back. And I fell instantly in love with him. Now I confess I didn't quite do this with David. However, his vocal quality is wonderful. His acting also deserves complements. I've heard many singers who are wooden if not downright absurd. David is not one of them! He's passionate in his own behavior. I really enjoyed it.

  • He's pretty good. But No one beats Ramin Karimloo. I love his voice. I hope to see him as the Phantom before he departs. or when it comes to broadway Ramin better be in it. Or I'll be depressed. =(

  • sorry but David Shannon is such a poor Phantom, having seen him at least three times he has no emotion at all. Ramin ftw. Not saying he can't sing cos this sounds good but not phantom-esq

  • @tashzillion WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY. i finally listened to it, and WHHYYYYYYYYY

  • think he sang this pretty well, was an Ok phantom as the night i went to see him perform,he struggled threw Music of the night.

  • This was very nice, but I prefer Ramin Karimloo. Ramin's voice just seems perfect for this song.

  • Except for being too fast... I liked the beginning, but I don't really like his vibrato at the end... :s

  • I prefer Ramin Karimloo too

  • whats this recorded from???

  • @phantomphan004 It's from an album called "100 Best Musicals"

  • i prefer ramin karimloo.. but david has a beautiful voice to

  • The music rushed him :c Too bad, his voice is beautiful.
