as long as you are in a public area, and are taking pictures of areas that aren't security sensitive (which a front/main gate is not) there is no problem. but if u were INSIDE the military reservation, u have to make double sure it's ok. On a military intallation, there are different rules that apply for obvious reasons

I live at tx killeen Fort Hood now yes you cannot take pictures or video as you come to the gate to check for your military id but really who wants to take pictures of people checking i.d.s unless you are trying to get in.. fort hood thats why security is high shoot i have to show them my i.d to get in the px

These guys seemed totally OK to me. They were not being nasty to the people. Not sure what the big deal was. They let you alone in the end. They are at a military installation.. not the same as regular public property. I have seen regular police be much more rude than these two guys.

The biggest thing is that they were just talking to the guys to determine what they were doing. It's a military instillation and after 9/11 they just want to make sure that everything is on the up and up. We're told to report anyone that looks suspicious, ie. taking pictures or drawing what could be sketches. I didn't see the MP's being rude or acting like most cops and being douches about it.

The military can prohibit photographs it deems detrimental to national security. Likewise, you may be banned from taking photos of nuclear power plants. And don't expect to take photos in government buildings like courthouses.
