  • Um... tachometer?

  • @saabkyle04 have you had problems with the carburetor? If so, how often, and what are the running costs of replacing parts for this car. We are looking to buy a classic car between 50s and 60s. And "reliable" classic cars you can think of?

  • @saabkyle04 Could you possibly do a Ford Falcon 4-door Wagon (preferably '60 - '63)? Thanks.

  • I love the powerless steering. power steering dumbs down the driving feel. Granted, I don't hate power steering, but there's something about a heavy steering that makes it feel tight.

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L Is it easy to steer a car that does not have power steering?

  • @christich99 Powerless steering is one of the toughest things to turn. Especially if you get an old Italian sports car with no power steering, then parallel parking is extremely difficult and energy consuming. On the road however, the speed makes the steering a little lighter, but not much. American cars in the 50s had extremely light power steering and was considered a luxury. The less tech you have controlling the steering, the more connected you may feel with the car at speed.

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L My dad told me that "Once you get going it's pretty easy to steer". Is this true?

  • @christich99 Yes. Like I said, the faster the car, the lighter the steering is going to be, and the the faster you go, the less you have to make adjustments to the wheel to turn. But say you're in the city, it's going to be really hard to steer especially from a stand-still.

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L I see. So, in like Baltimore or DC, it would be real pain, eh?

  • @christich99 Pretty much, I would think especially in New York City.

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L That means that [when, if] I get a '60s Falcon for my first car, I should get power steering?

  • @christich99 I have to warn you, the Ford Falcon is extremely basic. I'm unsure if it has power steering to be honest. It's a small car with a tiny straight six. Unless you get the V8 version. I would also look at getting the automatic versions because they had some unconventional manuals in some models like the falcon. Look up Ford Fairlane on saabkyle04s channel, it has the same transmission (or similar) check that out and see if you can live with that. It seems pretty complicated

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L Do you have any other ideas for a '60s car that would make a good first car? If not, what cars before the age of Plastification (AKA cars being made with nearly all plastic [started in the late '80s I believe]) ?

  • @christich99 For safety? None of them. Maybe a Ford Galaxie, which was a top of the line full sized car back then. Or its competitor the Chevy Impala. I guess if you want a muscle car, Mustangs are cheap and plentiful. Galaxies are big though, and look classy. Depending on the version you get, the Galaxie can be an absolute rocket. 500 is the trim that's best known for the Galaxie. Word of advice though, learn how to adjust carburetors because you will have to do that with old cars.

  • @AnonymoussourceL0L This is stupid, but what's a carburetor?

  • @christich99 Before fuel injection, we had carburetors which relied on suction from the intake of air to get the gas and air to mix to be forced into the engine to burn. Fuel injection, pumps the gas/air mixture via high pressured nozzles and atomizes the fuel for better burning. Carburetors or "carbs" are extremely inefficient. You would burn more fuel at a stand still and would not optimize performance outputs. However, you can get fuel injection conversions for classic cars.

  • @christich99 Not to mention that carburetors are unreliable. They take about 250-$450 to replace. You can repair them, but it's a real pain. You also have to keep adjusting valves in the carburetor to optimize airflow according to how the engine behaves. With fuel injection, you don't ever worry about that. *Side note* fuel injection conversions are expensive. $2500 for a good one.

  • Real nice exhaust!

  • how much did you pay?

  • Yes that is beautiful

  • beautiful Kyle.

  • I love it

  • I watch your videos hust because you present vehicles so well

  • Nice choice these cars are very collectible and the prices are right . Keep it forever ....

  • Independent Double Wishbone Short-and-Long arm suspension in the front and non-independent rear. I don't know if the rear is Leaf Springs.. most likely...

  • where is the remote @00:40 when he says "let it run" normally its a remote lol

  • @kevinvgenius These old vehicles did not have Remote unlocking\locking systems.

  • Very nice!

  • What a nice old car! What is the conversion of 289 cubic inches in litres?

  • @mrbogdan441 4.7 Liters

  • What made you get this car? Very nice body lines on it man love the 60's style.

  • Just like my truck (my daily driver). No power brakes, no power steering. Who needs it?!

  • By far the best vehicle you've done!

  • This video is so cool. Brings back a lot of great memories for me. I first learned how to drive stick on a '67 Ford Galaxie (too bad it wasn't a Fairlane) and it was a three on the three. Grandmother insisted. Thanks man!

  • Very nice old car!!

  • Piece of shit car

  • @nicholaschean Where's your car?

  • @nicholaschean

That's the most hilarious attempt at attention-grabbing I've ever seen. Don't quit your day job!

  • Nice car we got a red 58 fairlane in our garage at the moment only 2 owners really good knic its not ours though :(

  • what a shit for a car

  • @wirmackt

It's an honest shame you're unable to make any coherent sense, eh?

  • @crazyfooInc u must be blind

  • @wirmackt

You don't seem to grasp that your previous comment, "what a shit for a car" makes no coherent sense when referring to the English language and its intricacies. Personally, this car is a work of art and would look incredible if it was painted black, but that is my opinion.

  • the engine on the 1962-1965 Ford Fairlane

    Engine

    2.8L I6

    3.6L V8

    4.2L V8

  • That is an amazing car you have there Kyle, coming from a guy who used to run around a yard full of classics, and coincidentally, has the same name.

  • the transmission on the 1962-1965 Ford Fairlane

    Transmission

    2-speed automatic

    3-speed automatic

    4-speed manual

  • Hi Kyle! This is a very nice car you bought. You should have seat belts installed in the rear seat & shoulder belts for the front too. Doing this will give you & your passengers more safety in this car. Hope you will consider this. Take Care.

  • 1:38 what a REAL car sounds like

  • can you do one on a 64?

  • THAT HORN. SO BEAUTIFUL.

  • 3 speed manual?!?! Sounds quite curious

  • so much better looking that a 65 chevelle

  • Comment removed

  • @saabkyle04 hey where did you get you parts and interior from cause I need parts for my 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 4 door sedan?

  • Comment removed

  • So you have a 2010 Hyundia Genesis 3.8L V6 Gran Touring Coupe, a 1995 Buick Roadmaster Limited, and a 1965 Ford Fairlane 500 2-Door?

  • @ca13814 he sold the genesis coupe long time ago lol

  • Only if i could go bac in time and buy this car for 3000 then hide it somewhere lol

  • Absolutely beautiful !!!!!!!!

This is the way to show a car.

  • Hey if you find one could you do an old cougar 60s or 70 s

  • my brother has 1

  • That is a nice Amerrican classic!!

  • I bet that car will get decent MPG on the highway.

  • @Rare92Mustang Probably 12MPG at the most,if it were a 4 speed with overdrive it would have better MPG.

Headers also help with MPG because they allow more exhaust flow.

  • i own a automatic one... the EU version

yes these have been export versions.

got from guy in frankfurt for 100 euros, he didnt want it

    it was mint condition

has power steering and automatic tranny

    really nice

  • @saabkyle04 Now that's a real car mate :D

  • what mpg does this thing get????

  • its beautiful kyle...congrats...love the restoring you have done...btw it sounds fantastic!

  • Very nice car Kyle. Glad you have it and enjoy it :)))

  • nice car my grandpa used to have one of thos.

  • Lucky...I've got the original 221 V8 in mine. Sounds like a lawn mower engine! Your fairlane looks (and runs) really nice! I myself prefer the earlier-60s-late-50s models, back when they had fins, but the 64s and 65s really look very classy.

  • my dads first car was a 67 fairlane

  • oh there is a parking brake, my bad

  • wheres the parking brake dude?

  • How is it that your sister's Lexus and your mom's Toyota get kept in the garage, and your 2 cars are outside in the driveway? Think you need a house with a 5 car garage, lol.

  • nice car

  • One interesting thing, is that this engine has so much toque, that you can go at 20mph in 3rd gear normally!

  • i am considering a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190D diesel as my first classic i'm 18 and some people think it's strange that i'm not into sport's car's i don't care what they say i'm a luxury car man it'll supplement my current Mercedes perfectly

  • Comment removed

  • @w140fan I am just like you! I say that if I have much money, I would buy a RR Phantom, my friends can't believe, they say why I wouldn't buy a Ferrari ou Lambo... hahaha! I love luxury cars, big cars, sedans, with big engines, there's nothing better!

  • @Gabzaiat the car i'm trying to buy is not is expensive is you may think he only want's $3000 for it it has 85k original mile's on it

  • @w140fan i own a 1994 W124 i love mercedes!. i want either a 1957 plymouth or a 1956 buick for my classic car. i love old cars alot more than some new ones!

  • @w140fan You should just go, and buy the car YOU like. ;-) And if your friends or family do not like it, they can drive their own car, or take a hike!

  • @Skoda130 yeah people just don't get the beauty or craftsmanship that was put into these vehicle's and i thank you for understanding:)

  • how much was it?

  • a classic....always wanted one as first car! but germany hasnt got that big streets so it would have been difficult to drive it here. so i got a 05 Caddy CTS. and my das bought a corvette c3

  • wow kyle congradulations on you're purchase i would love to have a classic car when i get older, but you don't find many nice classic cars here in Mass. like you would down there i would think. That car is in tip top shape from what i have seen. I hope you enjoy you're "new" classic Fairlane and it's to bad you're family doesn't have that 48 super deluxe any more that car was really nice! and so isn't this one!

  • I like the lights that come on, on the instrumental board,on old cars. Or the dash board, whatever, I LOVE IT!

  • who needs a radio when you have a 289?? I could listen to her rumble all day! :)

  • i have never gotten the point of column shift manual transmissions. but man, this car is sweet

  • I really like the roofline of this car. Its clean, formal, and tasteful.

  • Dude awesome choice if that car was black it be so "gangsta" lol but real talk bad ass ride I hope you keep it for a long time and pass it down to Kyle jr lol

  • I'm envying you. You picked a beautiful car. My dad had a 65 Fairlane Sport Coupe when I was little. I want one so bad. They're just too hard to find and so expensive when you find it. I found one in S C years ago. The lady that had it said her husband bought it new in 65 and garage kept it. I wish I'd had $5000.00 to buy it. It only had about 30k orig documented miles on it. Take care of that classic. Thanks for the video.

  • @ saabkyle04: Why don't you make a test drive video on this car?

  • @winstonmiu98 Because it's not fully repaired to be able to, I will eventually

  • @saabkyle04 You should do it to make up for the sadly lost Subaru vid. lol

  • that thing looks so confusing to drive, but it does sound nice

  • A color now found on the Eric Johnson start. I think you need the guitar to go along with the car. :-)

  • Make sure you use oil with a high zinc content. New oils have less zinc for emission purposes and they tend to wear out flat tappet camshafts. Some companies make a zinc additive you can put in.

  • Very nice Ford Fairlane. I have not driven a 3 speed on the column since high school. It is good to know that some of us are buying and fixing up classic cars. I like the 1966 Volkswagen Beetle you have on another video as well.

  • Very nice motor, very well cared for. Its nice to see a young man appreciate a sixties car. Thanks for posting and happy motoring!

  • old school cars are the best

  • Kyle

Thank you for the shifting lesson @ 2:10

    That was useful. :)

  • Sweet car

  • Great choice Kyle!!

Please keep it totally original! No adding stupid radios and A/C or different rims.

Also if you don't mind me asking... How much did you pay for this Fairlane?

  • hey kyle im confused. i keep getting told that shifting the shifter while the car is off is bad for the transmission. then i see you shifting with the car off and without the clutch. does it or does it not damage the vehicle?

  • Could you do a 2010 Chrysler Sebring & a Chrysler 200

  • now thats what a real car sounds like

  • nice... i still pick the genesis

  • Test drives Kyle?

  • @Forgoten214 It'll be a couple weeks, getting things fixed on it

  • @saabkyle04 rich people these days lol nice man love the classics

  • can it have a new nice radio nice digital

  • the 1962-1965 Ford Fairlane was assembled in

    Lorain, Ohio

  • Very cool car.

  • i swear that i saw you driving that in apex nc today

  • @flyboy0920 Haha must've been someone else :P

  • how much did u get it for

  • Great purchase, hang on to it and take care of it, Its a classic car that will always be worth keeping.

  • Sweet car kyle!

  • My dad had one of these when I was in high school. It was a '66. Same manual on the column. I don't remember having any trouble driving it, even as a new driver.

  • @wil48823 Yeah it only took a sec to get used to it, get the pattern right and you're good to go!

  • I like the three on the tree.

  • what good sound!! It's glasspack exhaust?

  • @Gabzaiat I'm really not sure haha, all I know is that that is the "classic" style dual exhaust put on a lot of oldies. Best part is that this is an all numbers matching car :)

  • @Gabzaiat I'm really not sure haha, all I know is that that is the "classic" style dual exhaust put on a lot of oldies. Best part is that this is an all numbers matching car :)

  • @saabkyle04 The small diameter pipes cause it to have that raspiness instead of a low droning sound.

I actually prefer the raspiness on a motor like the 289!

    Great sounding motor!

  • I'm envious! i want a classic car!

  • nice find this car is pretty sweet

  • Nice FairLane but the gear shifter is fucking complicated!!

  • @bengo76 Haha nah, it's easy after you play with it

  • @saabkyle04 thats what she said haha

  • It,s a nice car you got, but i,m confused with semi-automatic gear box isent it?

  • @algarragonz full manual I will demonstrate it in the test drive

  • 302 winsor ?

  • kyle if you decide to get a radio heres a tip...have it mounted in the glove box my grandpa has a 1955 chevy bel air and a 57 nomad and they both have radios in the glovebox which is nice bc it still has that original look to it....i like your car btw

  • @Bajaheat Thanks buddy!

  • Jeez it was a joke, hahha lol!

  • @anujwaken Haha oh ok then, couldn't tell ;)

  • Found on road dead FORD

  • @anujwaken

    Seems pretty alive to me...

  • @anujwaken I'm sorry but that was dumb lol, saying that to a 46 year old car with the original engine, stereotypes ha, makes me laugh

  • @anujwaken Then you pop the hood wack sum nice grade oil in her and away she goes bois!

  • So now that you own a nice, classic car, I sure hope you're not gonna drive this like crazy because I think that classics like this should just be driven on the weekends to a vacation spot of some sort. Nice car Kyle. Very well maintained and kept. Congratulations on your first "classic car".

  • u bought a ford,. welkom to the famly,.

    this ride is clean :)

  • wtf manual shift on the column?

  • @sheemobile you've never heard of "3 on the tree?"

  • @speacialperson12345 no. learn something new everyday huh

  • @sheemobile yea, true

  • Gotta love cars from the 60's, lots of room, ashtrays galore and enough trunk room to store 3 dead hookers. This 289 has slightly more horsepower and torque as my 95 Grand Marquis' 281. It probably was great getting 8 miles to the gallon and not caring. lol

  • Cool car man one day i want to get a 1950's Corvette Convertible like work on it fix it up.

  • Comment removed

  • to me, the 289s seem to sound better than the 302s and 351s. I don't know why. You can always tell an old 289 apart from a new SBF.

  • Ohhhh yeah!! 720p

  • A Flowmaster exhaust would make that beast really roar!

  • are you going to get a radio for the car and are their seat belts

  • Beautiful sound!

  • are you going to get a radio for the car

  • are you going to get a radio for it

  • are you going to get a radio for it

  • the headliner needs to be re done

  • That 3 on the tree looks cool. I wonder what it would be like if someone made a modern 5 or 6 on the tree?

  • Nice car Kyle! You could also use the excuse that it's more practical than the genesis, with more boot space :P

  • how much does a car like this go for price wise?

  • my dad has a 65 Ford Econoline with "3 on the tree" just like this. Also has drum brakes all around, no power steering, or brakes. Its tough to drive but i love driving an old classic. They don't build em like they use to! And remember, "don't crush em, restore em!"

  • Congrats on the purchase hope u enjoy it

  • Thanks Kyle, you took me back to the time when I was your age, (no, I do not wish to go back there). These cars sounded smooth at that time, I guess things have changed. AM radio, and we listened to it at 70 MPH with windows open.

  • Congradulations on your classic car purchase.

Older cars have great charactor, get great attention and simple to work on.

    I own three classics

    1960 Vauxhall Victor F Series 2 (since 1988)

1965 Vauxhall Viva HA (since 1991)

    1982 Mitsubishi Sigma 1600 GLX (since 1989)

1997 Honda Accord VTi (not a classic yet-this is my everyday car) (Since 2003) This replaced my 1997 Honda Civic LXi 3 door hatch that I bought brand new in 1997.and only had only 4 km when I drove it off the showroom floor.

  • Thumbs up if you agree this car looks better than a brand new Toyota!!

  • @datpimpinboy anything is better then a new toyota
