you re amazing ...i mean you really are !!!! i play the violin and i thought that it sounded good only in violin ....but you give it wonderful colors and intensity ...its amazing its really a strong performance ! bravo !!
are chords shown as solid chords on your music? or grace notes? cuz i saw the transcription and I would imagine its very difficult to read on flute O_O AWESOME JOB
I got to see him play this in Huntsville AL on Friday! He had the entire thing memorized!!!! Got to meet him afterward and he was gracious enough to sign my program. His performance was one of the most stunning things I have ever witnessed.
Or, if anyone has a solo transcription of this piece, even transposed, for flute in PDF please don't hesitate ... or might it exist in published form I wonder (for flute). Want to save myself lots of transcribing (have a sore wrist right now).
@jazzflutist It's written for violin. I like perlman's recording, but all of the great violin players have a pretty good rendition (except for heifetz's recording...- it's a bit too rushed for my tastes). Menuhin's recording is superb as well.
Yes Denis you are right! In g minor is much sweeter, soft...the music can be more meditative! And in D minor it´s to high...it´s very difucult to keep a good embochure in the transcription in d minor and the intervals sounds not very natural as in your transcription.
So, than I will send you my recording of this piece (in d minor), than you tell me what do you think.
@navarroflute Thank you! But unfortunately it doesn't work on the flute in D minor, it sounds too high. Prefer to bring it up a fourth, not an octave.
@bouriakov you actually bring it down a fifth, not up a fourth! flute has the same range as a viola.. it should be written in C clef, not in G. or a G clef an octave below. Scores, as they are written, are for the picollo range, sounding an octave below.. and most flutists have never realized that!
anyway, you could buy a flute tuned in G and play that in D minor too :D
do you play picollo too?
and about your videos.. i LOVE them, ive been hearing you play this piece for the past 3 days
> you actually bring it down a fifth, not up a fourth!
This flute version is up a forth compared to the violin version, which is the original instrumentation.
Score sheets are written so they help the player to the easiest read. Their existence should hardly be used in claims that higher frequencies "are down"?
In your (interesting, BTW) considerations of how the _flute_ frequency relates to scores, you simply forgot to also consider how the _violin_ frequency relates.
@sormu16 most people hear that the lowest C on flute is the same lowest C on the G string of a violin. For my ears, that lowest C of the flute is the same low C string of a viola... maybe im crazy
@ericoschmitt no the viola one is too low i think , the flute first octave is the third in the piano i believe , but the color of the low notes is so dark it makes them sound lower , that's what i think at least!
Marcel Moyse, the teacher of Denis' teacher. He was not Jewish, either, despite his name. But,he was the greatest flute player and teacher of the 20th century.
For my part, whether someone is Jewish or not has zero importance. Why would it matter to you what a complete stranger like myself thinks about someone whom he has never met?
I will have to live 20 lifetimes until I begin to understand the reasoning and preoccupations of some people in this world.Maybe more. And even then I am not sure that the added lifetimes will have been worth the increased understanding.
Gee, raanan17, you don't have to get upset... I wasn't making any anti-Semitic statement. Au contraire, I think jewish musicians have proven to be the best players and teachers in the world. So I wish you well in your 20 lives.
Truly wonderful and thrilling - I too often go to your site to listen, and still remember the disbelief with which we heard it at the BFS in 2006. A hall can never have been so still, so completely transported. Douglas Brooks-Davies

Hey Denis,
It’s very interesting and impressive. I usually hear this partita with Itzhak Perlman and I love this Bach’s composition.
At this part which starts at 5.55 is great. It is almost “polyphonic technique” just like at violins. Congrats!
