• I remember doing this play last year, It was fun and I made 3 close friends. And We Beseech Thee was my favorite song in all of GodSpell. Oh and interesting fact, My friend Robin who was casted as Jeffrey, Robin couden't sing, so we casted Racheal Goff to do the whole song as a character who wasn't in the plot of the play. But I enjoyed it and watching this really brings back memories. Thank you:)

  • pretty good... would be better without all the vibrato.......

  • I miss big Chris.. I miss doing the musical it was a BLAST! thanks for posting.. And thank you Mr. manley!

  • Wow :) After doing a production with 13 people in the cast I am very very happy to say that this is an amazing job well done. I loved it entirely.

  • Nicely done........but to many people to execute the song. The main singer should have been the focus....and the other main characters.....but I understand trying to add everyone in......I just think it would have been more powerful with the main cast and not the extras.......if done right.

  • I think the choreography solved a major problem that plagues many productions. In this number, the key is to keep the movements simple but active. I've seen it done with non-dancers being stiff and directed...but not exhuberant.

The huge cast is questionable, but I understand why they did this.

    bravo.

  • Too big of a cast!

  • Too big of a cast! It's a intended for 10 people, not 100

  • Well we're sorry that 120 tried out for the musical. Don't know about your high school, but we actually try to get everyone in the show!

  • WORST COREOGRAPHY EVER!!!!

  • Love this guys voice! Such a great soulful rendition!

  • gotta say... ours was wayyy better. go listen to savannah christian church's version of it on here! its pretty good.

  • Freakin' love the background.

  • It's no worse then the High School Musical series!

  • aint being awful or anyhtin but my school did this play back in march and we did it way better than this !

  • yay another large cast similar to the cast I saw at my local theatre.

  • loving the energy!!

  • There are a lot of BAD high school videos... but this is not one of them. Great soloist, good energy and very clean movements. Good job!

  • very good!!!:)

  • my school is doing this and im a main character but we're only using 10 ppl

  • as it should be done

  • As it should be done. Sher if it were a local Thaetre, this is ahigh school you cant really do that to all of those kids who have a heart to be there.

  • my mom is the assistant principal at Xenia! She loves it there! Great number!

  • Oh it's soo bouncy and energetic!Put me a good mood excellent!

  • Oh, this is so good. I saw this over the summer and it BOMBED!(not good)The tickets were 10 bucks, and it turns out the kids didn't even try out! They PAID to get in! Like 200 bucks! And the show isn't good because the good kids don't get a chance to shine! Is that what theater is about? I think not! I praise this group extremely! I support shool productions and say bravo!

  • Awesome voice!!! In high school? Man!!

  • Omg i love Godspell! im on the crew on it at my school! this has to be the best song in it!

  • sing it boi!

  • I love this song my company that does plays did Godspell and it was hliarious ill see if i can get the vid if i do look it up!

  • dude has an incredible voice!!! <33

  • This is a nicely-executed version of "We Beseech Thee"! Bravo!

  • the lead vocalist is great

  • I don't like this, as I feel God Spell only suits with an average sized cast where you get to know each character. The amount of people on stage is bad as their are hardly any connections with the characters. Over riffed also. Energy is nice but its FAR too predictable due to how safe they have played it.

  • over riffed in my opinion.

    BUT

    LOVE the energy!

  • killer singing, dude!

  • The cast is just too damn big!

    There's like 50 people!

My school is doing it and we've only got like 15 people...that's the way it was meant to be.

  • actually it was meant for 10

    :P

  • Whatever.

We did it with 15 and we kicked ass!

  • it's not about kicking ass...

    ugh never mind

  • Well, I know that's not the REASON.

I was excited, leave me alone.

  • haha we did with 40. lmao.. with like 15 little kids. it was godspell junior. so that's why. i was 14 at the time.

  • Well, as long as you and your cast did it fabulously, it's cool.

    ♥

  • it was a bit fabulously done lol.. it wouldve been a tiny bit better w/o some ppl

  • it doesnt matter the number, the writer of godspell says you should use your own names and use as few or many as needed

  • Too BIG of a cast!! Should not be this big!

And once again, is the lead vocalist getting tickled?

  • actually, a big cast isnt necessarily bad...it just makes it a little more difficult

  • This play was written for around 10 people. Not for a cast of 50. And from hearing most of the songs that have been posted, it seems like one person has been singing all of the songs. Has the director of this show completely re-wrote the show himself/herself?

  • Yeah, that happens sometimes. It's a high school show, you know... And by the way, music, plays, poetry, etc., were never written to be performed the same way twice. It's called artistic license. I think they did a fantastic job.

  • i know a 5th and 6th grade that is doing it

  • for high school it's fine. it gives kids more of a chance to enjoy the benefits of being in theatre. in a school of 5200 kids it's not fair to only include 10 in a play. they could of had a couple out in the audience getting them into it. anyway, they look great and energetic!! :) very nice

  • Well, theatre doesn't work in the way everyone gets a part. Especially with this show where there is only 10 parts, expanding can and cannot work. I've seen performances of this show where there was a cast of 28 with 10 principles and 18 in the chorus and the show was amazing. I've seen a cast of 32 where everyone got a chance to shine and it was terrible. Better to stick with the script.

  • Keep in mind a high school director's job is to include.

All it takes is one disgruntled student who complains to the parent who complains to the school.

I agree to sticking to the script.

I think they shoulda just picked a different script

  • In my school, you have to actually sign a contract before you audition saying that not everyone is going to get a part. This year, we are performing "The Producers", and about only 45 kids were needed. 80 auditioned. Our directors can't be bothered with giving every student a role. They want the show to be fabulous and letting kids in without any acting, singing, or dancing talents would make it a mess.

[So yeah, I think Godspell is best with only about 20 people or less.]

  • wow. you guys get paid too?

  • no, only the stage crew gets paid.

  • Its high school. What may I ask are you really wanting to see? If its a broadway show please go there. They get paid to stick to the script. There is no need in breaking kids hearts by not putting them in a dance and giving them chance to be on stage. If your a performer and you have a need to been on stage you have to experience it first to know the need. To know the feeling, the rush. Why rob the kids of their chance to discover what performing is about?

  • well i was in this musical several years ago and yes there is only 10 main parts BUT what we did,to include the rest of the stage school was to have children dancing in most of the songs and it worked very well and it was a big sucess,i have vid if u want to see what i mean but its really bad quility:(

  • the accompaniment is too bouncy. its gospel, not childrens music. but all of the voices and choreography are amazing. (it could pass as college)

  • why did that girl sit down at the end ?(she sits down at 3:20 and stays down till the end.)

  • my i think my school casted over 100....

  • We're working on it right now in my school...we have a main cast of 10, a cast of 8 philosophers, and then a number of extra chorus members that I'm unsure of...10-20 more, probably. But the philosophers and chorus members only come out during songs.

  • WAY WAY TO MANY PEOPLE!!!!

  • I agree!!

  • our school is doing godspell now ! great job!

  • AWESOME!

  • Huge cast? My school will have from 50-90 ppl on the stage at any given time for godspell

  • really? my school only cast 18 people.

  • Beautiful set, beautiful music, beautiful expression. Well done.

  • Our skool is doin Godspell too right now;

    yall did a good job

  • lmao our school is doing godspell the now too it is going to crash and burn and go weee CRACH lmao yaaay !

  • You guys are all so crazy over his voice.

I thought it was kinda flat.

Better than I could do, and still quite good.

It just seems that everyone else is a bit more exicted about it than I.

  • Agreed...He's a tenor, should be sung by a baritone

  • he is an incredible singer, i dont know about being good enough to match up to rent though. RENT is INCREDIBLE.

  • this is really fantastic. You have an amazing voice.

  • the vocals are excellent.

  • Why do you need so many people? That seems slightly overboard to me. Second, this guy who sang this song has an amazing voice & sounds like he could sing in Rent. That being said, he made this song sound like an Elderly Gospel Choir Song, and it seems so much more like a party to me. He had no facial expressions until the end where it changed key. That was the only part I REALLY liked how he did it.

  • I agree about too many people. The skat-ish part was kinda messy. I liked the rest though.

  • i did this song in my dance recital last year. it was really fun. we made it really crazy and added all of these theatrical moves. our costumes were crazyer then the ones in the video.

  • I hope i can do this song justice... im jeff in our production...

  • i get to do this song in our production!

we are doing a sports themed version of Godspell...go figure...

nah, it's really good, and we have some amazing talent in our prod., we have a small cast of 12 and almost everybody gets their own song. I got lucky with this one, I love it. Good luck to all who perform this in the future!

  • DAMN YOU ALL ARE AMZING

  • this is great!!! arms must be tired tho LOL

  • Can you tell me how big of a part is jeffery?

  • It's about the same size as all the others (Jesus aside.) But he gets this ace song.

  • i am so thrilled to be doing this song i have loved it all my life, such a great show stealing number

  • There all about the same size... 'cept Jesus & Judas/David... Its not that many lines....

  • its Judas/John

and in original productions the cast was ten, but any number of people can really be used

  • THATS AWESOME! Reallly different from ours but I really like yours! ours is on the steps of the Chicago Art Institute (the setting for the whole show)

Our dance is a different style to but I really like this interpretation! Nice job!

  • wow... the choreographys great. mine sucks

  • now thats a cast - great job

  • that's a LOT of people! This looks really well putten together. It's heard to direct something that has a lot of people in it, and they did really well! (don't care for main singer though)

  • His voice is good- not for this song. I'm singing Learn Your Lessons Well

  • this song as not written for lots of runs in the vocals, that being said, he did very well. When I sang this song in a touring version a couple years ago it always was like the last really exciting upbeat song before everything got emotional. Great job, great production

  • I miss this so much *crys* I mss you Xenia Love Taby

  • we beesseegee thee, hereee uss ! *slap knee*

  • so slooow.

  • We had someone who WAY overdid his voice when we did Godspell, they sound similiar. The voice is great, just not for the part. Love the video though!

  • I agreee...he has a great voice but too operatic for what it is.

  • I'm playing jeffrey!!!

  • I love to see how different directors interepret this. Your version has to be the best one on the website. I still love my version though!

  • Wow, that looks like a really good production Godspell.

  • i didint like the voice.

  • Wow! That guy has a great voice.
