I'm biased b/c I've loved U2... In a genuine sense of the word....for having their music there for me for about 25/39 years of my life...Bono and the boys are good people...we as a society tend to judge those who get things done/ by asking what more they could do- as opposed to who could do something at all and isn't doing a thing....I sacrificed time w 3 young kids and 60k for an MBA- only to see a 10% raise followed by 3 years of a frozen wage- net result- zero wage increase but 60k in debt.

Another thing that should be pointed out about bands that get involved. For the oldsters I will use CSN&Y and for my generation I'll use U2. When we're younger we pay more attention to rockstars than we do to the news. I know when I was 10-14 I learned a hell of a lot more about the happenings in the world from U2 than I was hearing about in school and on the news. Now that I'm older I find things out for myself. Musicians who care bring awareness to a lot of people.

He works to raise awareness and uses his celebrity to get in to see people the average guy can't get time with. I think people love to hate Bono, they forget about his musical talent and incredible voice because he is influencial. They look for his flaws to make him more human but you look at his accomplishments, he is the most recognisable philanthropist since Lennon, his musical career has probably put him down as one of the most successful musicians in history. He saved lives and inspired people. You hate him coz hes better. And also, eddie veder is just super human.
@saddler360 I don't hate Bono and respect what he has done. However, I think that the things he has done, has made him such a superhumen figure, that he has distanced himself from the regular person. Because of this, the average people like myself might find it harder to connect with him. Another thing is that I feel like music is no longer the most important thing for Bono, he just uses music as means to bring attention to his causes. I prefer if musicians breath and live for music.
@Ylviste Ya well said, you can tell that veder or the edge are very passionate about there music, whereas bono (though still an excellent musician) has become more of a figure head than a musician.
Eddie veder lives and breaths music, and activism is his other hobbie. And although i have more admiration for bonos achievements i think i prefer veder personally because, as you said he is more human.
@Ylviste : Aren't artists or rock music artists are advocating what Bono is doing?: to make the world a better place to live in, if not to change it. Music is not just about music. It's about seeing the beauty and experience the beauty of life. And for that to achieve is to change the world. I think Bono still is the regular person as he is inspite what he has been doing to the needy.
I am not saying that there is anything wrong with what Bono is doing, I greatly respect him for that. It is just that when Eddie Vedder speaks, it feels like a man from the street is speaking his mind, when bono speaks, it feels like the freaking pope is speaking. I think people love to hate Bono, they forget about his musical talent and incredible voice because he is influencial. They look for his flaws to make him more human but you look at his accomplishments, he is the most recognisable philanthropist since Lennon, his musical career has probably put him down as one of the most successful musicians in history. He saved lives and inspired people. You hate him coz hes better. And also, eddie veder is just super human.

@saddler360 I don't hate Bono and respect what he has done. However, I think that the things he has done, has made him such a superhumen figure, that he has distanced himself from the regular person. Because of this, the average people like myself might find it harder to connect with him. Another thing is that I feel like music is no longer the most important thing for Bono, he just uses music as means to bring attention to his causes. I prefer if musicians breath and live for music.

@Ylviste Ya well said, you can tell that veder or the edge are very passionate about there music, whereas bono (though still an excellent musician) has become more of a figure head than a musician.
Eddie veder lives and breaths music, and activism is his other hobbie. And although i have more admiration for bonos achievements i think i prefer veder personally because, as you said he is more human.

@Ylviste : Aren't artists or rock music artists are advocating what Bono is doing?: to make the world a better place to live in, if not to change it. Music is not just about music. It's about seeing the beauty and experience the beauty of life. And for that to achieve is to change the world. I think Bono still is the regular person as he is inspite what he has been doing to the needy.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with what Bono is doing, I greatly respect him for that. It is just that when Eddie Vedder speaks, it feels like a man from the street is speaking his mind, when bono speaks, it feels like the freaking pope is speaking. I don't know if you get what I am saying, but that is how I feel.
