I don't know about the Goldfrapp / Kate Bush comparisons but the second song in particular sounds more akin to Hazel O'Connor circa Breaking Glass era.
Great stuff anyway and hoping to catch Polly in live performance soon.
The more i listen to Polly the more i open to what she is doing. I was cynical at first as i presumed that an artist could not be so open and raw but i play her tracks on myspace every day and am totally enthralled.
Yep. You could see her the way you display in your checklist below. It's a possible interpretation. A cynic, arrogant, condescenting point of view. Or, you can see an endearing, inspiring honesty from her in each and every point, which is the very reason I hang around. That's a choice of perspective. And you know, I'm no fan of cynicism. There's too damn much of it.
What I fail to understand is why you even bother if you don't even like her, which should be obvious from your latest post.
Music is very simple - if you like it, listen to it. If you don't, don't. It isn't hard. But the thing is, your initial comment was about you wanting to CHANGE Polly, and share your immense wisdom with the rest of us. But I begin to understand that your self-distance is lacking... You've been dodging my arguments for quite some time now, and I realise that I will not get through. I regret that I started this. Personally, I hope Polly just erases this sad progression.
I do like her.I like what she chooses to indulge in: Innocence, sensitivity, magic, wonderment & pain. All i said was that i wish she didn't make excuses for herself. This argument & bad energy was aimed toward you & your quick judgement on any opinion other than one that matched your own.So Polly, if you do happen to spend your time checking to see what people think.I like what you appear to stand for.I just think if you believed in yourself a little more you would not need to excuse your work.
Oh, you like her? Well, you have a screwed up way of showing it. Ha ha ha... You get mad at me and bashes Polly... Really mature... And yes, Polly does read this. You can read Polly's reply to your self-indulgent initial post on her MySpace. The blog is called "Bombay Sapphire and crossed wires". Like I said - you really have no self-distance. You don't see your own arrogance, do you?
1. Day to day ramblings of interesting day to day things. Check.
2. Over the top vocals on every song, when really, a simple punctuation would suffice.
Check.
3. Long, half finished songs, full of self indulgence.
Check.
4. Hey, look at me in my own little world-i'm a little zany but don't judge me too much cause i'm nice really. (Honest, check my blog-i draw watches on my wrist.)
It's obvious. Not alternative.Though i guess when there are people like you there to lap it up she'll do very well

Okay performance from Miss P..
A little self indulgent perhaps. I would also prefer if she sang a little less forced, trying to sound interesting.. Just allow her voice unfold naturally. I also find that she excuses everything she does, calling it 'rough' or 'unfinished.' We can only judge your 'art' on what you produce, not what may come..
I sense echoes from the time when Kate Bush emerged and many people saying "she really should not sing with that awful, shrill voice, that will never work..." Yes, I was around at that time. As was I in this case - I was standing in the audience of this video. This gig was amazing.
I don't know that anyone was questioning the quality of her voice. I believe she has very nice tone. Simply the fact that she excuses her offerings as incomplete or a work in progress. I don't remember Kate Bush doing the same thing. Saying 'this is me as an artist, but..' leaves the audience/listener feeling less confident in the art before them at that very moment..always waiting for that finished piece.
I would like to feel like she is enjoying her 'art' rather than excusing it.
And I didn't say anything about Kate excusing her art (or Polly for that part), I referred to what some people said about her way of singing. "Trying to sound interesting" sounds like a negative remark to me. As if this way of singing isn't part of her personality, that she is being dishonest and should change her way of performing. This way of singing is one of her big qualities in my book.
As for her "excuses"... A hen of a feather. She did this to indulge some eager requests from fans, to see her perform. I suspect she wanted to wait before publishing anything, until she feels more "warmed up". But she chose to indulge her fans. And it's still raw, so her comment is relevant as far as I can see.
I think you have hit the nail on the head. The kooky, enigmatic style seems a little forced. She seems to have a lot of fans though so the best of luck to you all!!
That was my point with Kate Bush. They thought she was "forced" too. And, just like back then, there are people who just don't get it. That's fine, I've heard lots of artists that I just don't get either. But I would never slag these artists off in public. It's disrespectful and rude. And in the end, it's all about the ego of the one posting. "Kooky"? Well, you have a good day too sir.
faults and imperfections merely accentuate all of the positive attributes.

Wish I could write music like this. I'm still struggling to write something I'm willing to show anyone.

Well i wouldn't say you're not with ego yourself, hence your last three posts expressing your righteous point of view.
I have not slagged anyone off at all. I use the word 'kooky' not because the music is alternative but because every part of the product is obvious.
