this doesnt apprear as a normal cello... has a smaller body which gives it a longer neck. That could be the high E you're hearing... is cause longer neck changes te range...wayyy cool tho...makes for great sound!!

@Ralic100 I've never heard of, or seen, a "Gypsy Cello" before this. It appears to be essentially the same as a normal cello. Same range. Same neck and string length. But the body is noticeably smaller than normal. It also looks like he has something to brace it against his chest where a normal cello would rest against him. The essence of the "gypsy" part has more to do with the moorish/eastern european haunting character of his composition, in a minor key.

@Jeneworld Sorry for late reply. Yes, tone is a bit different. Low strings seem to be same pitch as normal cello, but the smaller body doesn't have the same barrel-chested bass voice that full size cellos can do. However, what he gains instead is the ability to have the beautiful soaring high notes, much like a violin. I could be wrong, but it looks like it has more strings than normal too. It's like having a cello and a violin together in one instrument. Brilliant!

I saw this guy play live, although I didn't know who he was at the time, and even spoke to him. I was entranced by his playing. I play the cello, but the gypsy cello was so beautiful in both appearance and sound, and he is a magnificent player. It'd be awesome if he started selling gypsy cellos and coming out with sheet music for it.

A Cello isn't very much like a guitar, it's fingerboard is clear of any bumps and grooves. There is the given scratch or three though from where strings have broken.

Unfortunately Cello is a bit harder to learn than a Guitar due to the lack of finger indicators, but learning how to play it is very worth the effort.
