I have read the book about German communities in Eastern Europe. According to that book, there was a great exodus of ethnic Germans after WWII across the Eastern Europe.

How do the German communities (like the one in this documentary) survive instead of moving away?

You are saying that Laszlo welcomed the germans in Transilvania. The Romanians owning Transilvania are neither primitive nor Olah people, but yes Transilvannia is affected by Romania's economic situation just as much as southern or eastern Romania (which are even worse). I don't see. Hungary isn't such a developed country itself, so giving Transilvannia to HU would mean just ping-ponging it arround meaning a hard time for the Romanians there. The land isn't even ancient Hungaryan.

It does not matter when the movie was made, I am talking about the selective parts of Sibiu that are shown in the film, that only choose the most rundown areas, or a hole in the middle of a beautiful plaza, and that is what they show. Sibiu is a beautiful city, and it is well maintained. Even the mayor of Sibiu is German, and the Brukenthal Liceu is not the best school in Sibiu, Liceul Gheorghe Lazar is.

in the mid XVI century, tarile romane (the romanian countries) enter ottoman suzerainty. dobrogea was the closest province( to the ottoman empire, bordering it, before it expanded) and the only turks settled in. therefor it has a significant turkish minority today still.
