something where every line isn't a punchline that is dependant on the viewer knowing the characteristics of each player-'joey' saying ''how you doin'?'' is a catchphrase and not comedy,for a really well written comedy series see 'fawlty towers'-whereas it may be a little dated now to some people there's no denying the quality of the script in every episode.
