  • @spicua He sounds like the guy that sings "West End Girls". lol!

  • Hello Sir,

    Your tutorial was great:) It's a must watch for JAVA beginners. But one thing can you make it clear.....

    public static void main(String[ ] args)

    please will you explain this line for me. It would be very helpful

  • It's just the main bit of the program. Like, where most of it happens.

  • @keshavgowtham820

    public meant for any class can access it,

    static meant for if their is not instance of then due to static main() will be get executed,

    void meant for main() doesnt return nothing,

    main()start of the program,

    string args[] represents the array of string arguments it holds it value when command line arguments are given

    did u get my point??

  • dudee... Thank you soo much. this is reallyhelpful both for people with no experience in programming or little experience like me. lol keep more coming

  • Thank you very much! Before your vids, I couldn't understand why "javac" didn't work!

  • you kick ass ty!!!

  • Keep up the good work! No wonder I couldn't get jdk to work from those web tutorials....there were quite a few differences in the details and that's what screwed me up. This was a nice visual and succinct tutorial and I've just made my first java program plus I know how to get into different directories. Pretty sweet.

  • dude great vid. but your audio is way too low mate. should be high yellow diping in red. ;P great work though.

  • he would but the vidoe was made in 2006

  • When I use Eclipse it puts my java extension in a different folder than the class extension. So I tried using notepad with the java extension in an empty folder then using the javac command through command prompt. I noticed there was a 'Bin' directory, but when I tried to use the javac comand, I simply got an error message instead of compiling a class successfully.

  • i have tried, but javac says that 2 errors ocurred...

  • LEDGE! it worked :)

  • excellent tutorial, but I can't here the audio clearly

  • I'm new to java and all I compiled was out of Eclipse.

    Thanks for that video x]

  • You're HatiOfTheMoon aren't you?

    The one who does the Mugen tutorial videos.

    I would recognize that voice anywhere.

  • Thanks that was very helpful.

  • My javac command does not work.

  • set your variables

  • I did not watch your first tut. Sorry. I use Eclipse now.

  • Yes, thank you i did find it usefull, i finally got it working

    :)

  • Why working in notepad...ffs

    Download Eclipse, much easier 4 beginners!

  • thanks

  • Very helpful video!!

  • What is better? c++ or java?

  • Java

  • far as i know c++ is for making games and java is for making business application.

    c++ is harder to learn but if you learn it java, c and other programing languages will be easy to learn.

  • Comment removed

  • both good

  • Java's for making games too

  • weriktonky RuneScape is gigantic, and is in genius book of world records, for most popular online game in the whole world, and it's 100% java.. not c not c++ not any kinds of flash only java..

  • Hi! Man i tried it but didn't work.

    1st i installed the jdk-6u7 version in my OS (Vista), in c:\JDK but the javac command never worked. So, after some frustrated trys i decided to uninstall it and install again, without changing the path.

    Now the javac command works but there is an error when im compiling. It says "Error: could not open c:\JDK\lib\i386\jvm.cfg"

    Probably there is an error with paths but i dont know how to solve this... Please Help!

  • Great tut. Very helpful

    'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

  • im changing "hello world" to "GOODBYE WORLD"

  • Below are the errors i get when i try to compile the programme. How do you resolve these error

    javac tutorial.java

    tutorial.java:1: class, interface, or enum expected

    Class tutorial {

    ^

    tutorial.java:2: class, interface, or enum expected public static void main(string() args) { ^

    tutorial.java:4: class, interface, or enum expected } ^

    3 errors

  • you typed Class instead of keyword class, hence the error. Java is case-sensitive language

  • i cant find any such thing like command prompt

  • For CPrompt go to Start-All Programs-Accesories-Command Prompt

  • Don't you dare call this guy a nerd, people that study = success in life = Wealthy, you fucking dickweed.

  • public class HelloWorld { public static void main (String[] args) { System.out.println ("Hello World!"); }

  • I love the fact that anyone and everyone here can dicuss any problems they might have starting up java. Its great. Looking forward to learning more java and moaning about my programing problems.

  • Yes so I got it go to Helloworld.java but could someone Write this out on the comments thnx.

  • Yes so I did this step by step and when I put in dir My helloworld was helloworld.java.txt and when I put this in javac I get an error.

    So I would appreciate help.

  • I'm a noob at this java lark.

    I thought in defining a class you had to type the word public. e.g

    public class Helloworld

  • that doesent always work. in this case it will have a error if public is found in the class helloworld

  • dude you have a nice voice its perfect

  • where is the command prompts!!!

  • Start bar> Run> type in "command prompt"

  • Start bar> Run> type in "command prompt"

    thats one way :) accually u could do it with "cmd" or "command" thats why "command prompt" works, because ur accually loading command com = dos-prompt :)

    Anyway, thanks for these Java video's, Great work :)

  • or you can start it by pressing the windows button in your keyboard + R

  • THANKS FOR THAT MY FRIEND! (i dont got an english windows.)

  • question, i have problem compailing it says: exception in thread "main" java.lang.noclassdefdounderror: helloworld/java.

    if anyone know what it is please tell me.

  • What I think, it means is that the compiler can't find the directory where the class file helloworld is located in. If thats the case, you'll have to set the environment variables such as path or classpath to the location of where your java files are kept.

  • ok, i found out myself the errors and now there is no error in compiling

  • HelloWorld.java:5: ';' expected

    System.out.println{"Hello World!"};

    (the '}' on the far right of the line has been pointed to

    where are my mistakes, ive wrote it perfectly... i think

  • It is System.out.println("Hello World"); using parenthesis not curly braces.

  • HelloWorld.java:5: not a statement

    System.out.println{"Hello World!"};

    (the '.' after out has been pointed to)

    HelloWorld.java:5: ';' expected

    System.out.println{"Hello World!"};

    (the '{' after println has been pointed to)

    HelloWorld.java:5: not a statement

    System.out.println{"Hello World!"};

    (the '"' before Hello has been pointed to)

  • ive wrote class Helloworld { public static void main{String[] args} { System.out.println{"Hello World!"}; } } and its got all these errors HelloWorld.java:3: '<' expected public static void main{String[] args} { (the '{' before string has been pointed to) HelloWorld.java:3: ';' expected public static void main{String[] args} { (the '}' after args has been pointed to)
  • My program compiles successfully, but i'm getting an error when trying to run the program after typing "java HelloWorld", which looks like this:

    Error: could not open 'C:\Java\lib\i386\jvm.cfg'

    Now, I don't have a folder called 'C:\Java\', my java files are saved in 'C:\jdk\', so I suspect there's something wrong with a path or something, though I really don't know. Does anyone know what this is about and how I can fix it?

  • To be on the safe side and because you probably just started with hardly any serious work done so far,

    its better to reinstall the JDK and edit the path or location of the java directory to the typical location suggested in java books; Edit the environment variable, path to the location of the bin directory which is within the java parent directory. This is only a suggestion because I'm new to this myself.

  • Well this is cool but i just got Java How to program and you skipped how to set up the java run time envoirment witch alows you to us JDK

  • Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Helloworld

    Helloworld.java:5: cannot find symbol

    symbol : printIn(java.lang.String)

    blah blah...

    Wich here it refers to the dot before printIn

    system.out.printIn("Hello world!!!"); ^

  • Remember that Java is case sensitive. This means that HelloWorld and Helloworld are two different words. Same with System. "system" and "System" are different.

  • I found the error i made ^_^... i used "i" insteed of "L" thats wrong ofcourse :P, i gott to know some more about java, thanks for the help anyway.

  • shouldn't you import a package first? Ex:import java(perios here... stupid comment filter)io*?

  • for some reason it saves my file under .txt extension despite i've wrote .java at the end. do you have any idea what should be the reason?

  • You're probably using Notepad, which can't save as .java despite you trying to enter the java extension. You could rename the file (right-click, select rename, replace 'txt' by 'java', ignore the windows warning). Try downloading a specific tool such as Programmer's Notepad and using that (pnotepad dot org). HTH

  • I agree with cebuanoninoy.JAVA IS CASE-SENSITIVE!

  • Its says i got 3 erroers plx help me

  • All key-words in the source code are very case sensitive. Make sure all of the caps/lower case are exactly the same as the example on screen. For example, did you inadvertently capitalize the word 'class'?

  • 'Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Helloworld'

  • your file should have a filename of Helloworld.java and inside your file the class that you have just created should have also the same name, that is,

    class Helloworld {

    }

    this is case-sensitive. So a filename of helloworld.java and a class name of Hellojava is 2 different thing. So be careful.

  • You need to compile HelloWorld into a class.

  • omg! other problem. it says could not create Java Virtual Machine. What to do now ? :\

  • srry, didnt see the previous comment. it wrks fine now! thnx a lot

  • when im about to compile is says "javac" is not recognised as an intern or external command, operational program or batch file. Can someone help me? as u see im a noob at this...

  • when i write java HelloWorld it says:

    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file

  • How did you fixed this one? "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file"

  • this cant help me download java!!

  • Erm...it says

    'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

    operable program or batch file.

    I did everything you said and that's the ONLY thing in my way -.-

  • You have not installed the java development kit properly, please refer to the previous tutorial for more advice.

  • Ok,I got the javac down...now it says...(OMG)

    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Helloworld

  • Make sure you have typed the file name correctly. The class in your program should be the same as your file name - it is case sensitive.

  • should SDK be installed at drive C? or its ok to install it at drive D?

  • not a good tutorial.

  • Well, a tip to make it better would be nice.

  • greatful video tutorial and the person that talk is skilled programmers this is cristalline!

    i hope that made some videos too!

  • to change extension, open any folder. click tools, folder options. click view, then uncheck the box that says "hide extensions for known file types".

    Most files will now have a visable extension, e.g. music.mp3 or wordfile.doc.

    Then just simple rename the file to .java, or .bat or whatever

  • for some reason I can't change the file extension

  • Sorry it still isn't working actually >.<

  • nvm my comment, it worked

  • I can't change my notepad document to a java file, it just stays as a notepad file even though I type in Helloworld.java and change the file type to All files, if you could help that would be great, thanks for all the tutorials

  • Which version of JDK you are using for the tutorials?

  • I am using version 1.5.0. However, if you have another version of the JDK it will not make any difference.

  • Thank you so much for these tutorials! I hope more are coming soon!

  • I'm glad you liked them =] More are on the way. The next one should be up tommorow (Friday 5th) or Saturday at the latest!
