@Captainskier He didn't mind it at all. This only proved that he was actually on a designated trail. All attempts were made to make the vehicle driveable without insurance paying for the recovery on the trail. Insurance paid the vehicle off, no issues at all. The deductible was taken out of the payoff check for the vehicle.
Holy crap, a rollover did some serious damage. Good thing it was on a posted trail and not just goofing around on some back road or sandy hill. Insurance has you covered.
Um, Mom, me any my friends where just driving down the high way when this big truck came right at us. No, we where not off roading, seriously! We where driving down I-35 and I had to swerve off the road. Um, no, I did not call the police..um..um... I forgot to do that.
This was entertaining, but the rollover video was sweet!! I hope it was a good learning experience for you kids. Come down Memorial weekend and see how to do it right.
Are you serious man? Can you let me know what your schedule is so we don't have to wait on the crowd. Sorry, but my days of waiting in line ended about 8 years ago.
The event, Gathering of Nissan Enthusiasts in Moab (goneMoab) officially ends on the 22nd. But a bunch still hang around for the weekend and hit several trails that didn't get driven through the week prior. I'm sure you'll see a lot of them, but there's no official schedule for that weekend.
Hold on, Im confused so if you total your vehicle while on a "posted trail" they will cover it?
And secondly Im looking for a new vehicle and Im down to two
1)Nissan Xterra
or
2) Jeep wrangler/cherokee
I know you obviously love nissans, but which actually seems to perform better offroad with little modifications? And last longer, I know jeeps inline 6 seem to last forever......what about the nissan v-6?
Yepper, posted trail in a 4x4 vehicle for off road usage.
For the least mods, older Wrangler (I6 not the newer gutless V6). The Jeeps already have the solid front axle, the transfer case with a ton of aftermarket support and so on. The Nissans are awesome, but if you're comparing the 2, the Jeep would be better for you off road initially.
If I had to do over again, I'd still get the Nissan! But I do all of my own work, so it's nothing big for me.
@olchevyman Just go Jeep its gonna be less expensive any way you look at it and right off the bat the jeep already has a solid front axle opposed to the nissan thats gonna need a swap the price of lifts for nissans and IFS is ridiculous get a wrangler CJ anything or a cherokee put some 31's on it and a 2 inch budget boost and thats minimum mods for an amazing time!! than go by LOCKERS :) when the real fun starts!!
@olchevyman I have owned a jeep and an Xterra, In my opinion, Ill never own any suv other than the Xterra. I had the inline 6 in my jeep and hated it. not many miles on my xterra yet so dont know bout longevity. Its true though, a WRANGLER is going to be trail ready the day you buy it, but with some time customizing your Xterra, it will out do any Jeep any day.
@hollywood2465 Yeah I wish I could have got an Xterra but due my working on the farm I had to have a truck bed, and the extra weight when I had to pull someone out. I ended up getting a Like new 95' Z71, I am running a small skyjacker lift and 33's. It will go anywhere I need it to out on the farm, I still wish it was shorter though, you get on those tight trails and you can have a headache just trying to make a turn.lol..It will do till I can afford a second vehicle.
I removed all the stock suspension, replaced everything with most of a 78 Bronco suspension and went from there. It's been in a couple of magazines, has run Moab Rim and done several other hard trails.
at least a custom one could have been built. hey saftey first anyways he could have saved himself the front part of the roof or whatever it is you would call that part of the car.
In these situations its better to have an F850 with a 20 ton snatch strap pulling the xterra behind, make sure the 'driver' in the xterra is the owner, then take that F850 up to 80mph, show that xterra who is boss.
lol yeh I spose, but i would love to see an F850 do it, even if they are useless offroaders, there is more ford f trucks, explorers on the side of the road that have burst into flames in Australia than all other off roaders put together, along with Pajeros (mitsubishi) land rover discoveries, hummers, and Lada Nivas. I own a Nissan Patrol, economical toughness.
They are very tough vehicles, I honestly cannot believe the punishment mine takes and keeps on going even with the small diesel. I have been airborne, smacked a tree, sideways down a 100% grade hill for about 300metres (slideing in mud) I use it to pull out small trees, pulled a fully laden landcruiser back onto the road from the side - worth ever dollar and considering, quite cheap to run.
Insurance paid it off. It was a registered trail, therefore a payable accident. Bought it back from the insurance company, cut the roof off, caged it, SAS'ed it and have wheeled the same obstacle several times since. The 'then' driver is actually quite capable as well. Maybe you should get a different insurance company...LMAO!!
Why is is that everyone thinks Jersey is full of a bunch of city slickers I don't get it. I went to high school in Jersey an one of my friends drove a 80's Cadillac on 39's funny as hell. yes that's right there are red necks in Jersey to.
10X Better!!!! That thing is now INSANE!!! I posted a vid response there are a couple shots but the most impressive is the one of Cyclemut sitting on his tire all flexed out.. its about 3/4 of the way through.
Bigger the risk, bigger the reward. If it wasn't for him rolling it over, I wouldn't have as nice of a wheeler as I do now. I now own that rig, and i've built it up nicely (for cheaper than an older vehicle).
What effect does being greasy-side-up have on the engine and such? Was the vehicle drivable under its own power afterwards? Or did it come home on a flatbed?
We had to remove the upper intake with the SuperCharger to get all the spark plugs out. Some of the cylinders had filled up with engine oil and needed to be pumped out before she hydrolocked the engine. After that, filling the fluids back up to full, the owner drove it out under it's own power.
I loved my 4.0 in jeeps you cwazy. Must had a beater

Funny how all Fords have a snatch strap. 95% of all Ford trucks are still on the road. The other 5% actually made it home!
