i highly disagree with the whole "dead eye" theory. shooting a a firearm is not like riding a bike, sure you know how to do it but it doesn't mean your any good either. when shtf i want to know where those rounds are gonna go and that means regular practice. developing a natural point of aim and muzzle awareness could save your life. even the sharpest knife will dull in time.

My plan is actually based off of my rifle.The only difference is I am not a gun nut I was a sniper in the Army for three and a half years. I do not need you're stuff though I can live off the land for a good wile. The longest I ever have though was a month so I need to get out there and attempt at least two months and that one month was with only the stuff I could carry on my back. and my Remington model 700 and Glock 19

Not bashing your friend but he is too out of shape, and too full of weekend survivalist bs to make it come the SHTF. His hearts in the right place, but he needs to rethink his idea of survival, and he needs to get into a little better shape.

You might want to consider making a video with survivalists in your neck of the woods who have real knowledge and would be interested to pass on survival skills

Pick up that brass! It's money laying on the ground. Use a magnet to make sure you get solid brass, and not the steel junk cases. I average about $25.00 an hour when I clean up a shooting spot. Sell it at the same place that buys aluminum.

I've always felt uncomfortable with gun nuts. I grew up having to learn to hunt and preferred archery but had to learn guns. My second husband was a nut who got one of those automatic weapons dealers permits in the '80s before that law tightened up. Heaven knows what he is facilating. My brother in Ohio is a gun nut and stores expired ammo. Way smart. Idiot.

@CuteCatFaith That is only something that our overly bureaucratic government does, just to make sure that they always have a fresh supply in the lines. Over very long periods of time, ammunition can become weakened if there is moisture present. It will never become more powerful or dangerous. Ammunition that is stored properly and kept dry will last indefinitely, as long as it started out as quality ammunition. Have a nice day.

I would like to add to this. not only will we that know how to survive have to deal with those that are not.We will also have to deal with pack of domesticated dogs gone wild.when the hits the fan people will abandon the animal's Zoo's will not be able to keep feeding the wild life there either.and will turn them lose.So its not only going to be humans we will need to defend against but Pack of wild dogs and lions, Tigers, bears, Elaphant,and other big cats.

Well, it's good you are practicing camping skills. Years ago I had a friend that was a wiz at camping. Her main strength was food prep for weeks at a time. She did the shopping, planning and cooking. I was the clean up, keep clean campsite, wood gathering person. I can't tell you how she did it but she would roll over food from one meal to the next. Nothing got wasted. We never camped in the high desert..too cold at night.

I loved camping growing up in the States and some in Canada. No way could I get any of my spouses to do it, ha ha! Winter camping in snow was the most challenging but I needed a guide to train me for that, two weeks in Ontario, yeow. I did an Outward bound-type program years ago and it changed my life. I wonder if that program still exists?  I loved having to create my own shelter but was told don't make fire -- I had to stay two days alone in one place at one point. Exciting and positive!

You need to be insulated from the ground. Just a piece of cardboard can work. 0 Degree bag for sure. Halo fill is best because if it gets wet. It keeps you warm to some degree. Down, Like in Military bags will not keep as warm if it gets soaked. The shell is important for those. Anyways, Happy trails.

You can always make afire pit the length of your body , about 3 feet , 4-6 inches deep then make a fire in it and when the wood burns down to coals cover it up with the sand or dirt and it will keepyouwarm all night long . I learned that from watching tim3jones youtube channel . look for the video " Native American fire bed survival wilderness " .

You just put the pot with the coffee grounds right at the edge of the fire, and you can tell by the smell when it is done, Then, you crack two eggs into the pot, let it sit for a minute or two, then drink up. The eggs coagulate and keep the coffee grounds at the bottom. Best coffee ever!

It always upsets me when I find those toxic spent shells and various ammo just left around. It harms the environment so badly. We also find this crud on our country place and yet do not authorize anyone to shoot around our houses in Brittany. They can pay us to hunt in our forests, it is very cheap, just a few euros and they register locally, but if we find they've left any mess we refuse their permits to be renewed for our land. When I learned to shoot I had to clean it all up.

Not true. Shooting IS a perishable skill. Granted, some are naturally better than others. But if you want to train with your weapons, you can practive tactical moving without firing. e.g.-drawing, reloading, malfunction corrections. But if you are going to practice shooting do it with tactical moves. The biggest mistake people make is just target practice. In a SHTF scenario. You think your targets going to sit still? And do you think you will always be in an established position WHILE shooting?
