Elton John and Bernie Taupin are one of the best musical partnerships there has ever been. This song blows me away. The fact that EJ can perfectly express the meaning of BT's words through his piano is, imo, no coincidence.
The best song on the "Madman". I had to go to England to get this album, cos here in Germany I never found it. Strange,- but I think that´s what real fans do...
I know Elton John and Billy Joel are friends and have toured together, but I'm continually amazed by how much of Madman Across the Water and Tumbleweed Connection Joel plundered for his early sound and themes. Captain Jack quotes liberally from the intro to Levon, and listening to Indian Sunset, I'm reminded of how much Joel took of this to create The Ballad of Billy the Kid. Billy Joel fans, I'm not saying it's a complete ripoff, so calm down, but the similarities age obvious.
This was Elton John's greatest masterpiece.....Elton has incredible depth of understanding and soul. We need more artists like Elton John and less of the continuous bullshit propaganda that is Hollywood. Thanks to Elton for setting the standard.
A true unknown gem that very few folks know about. He performs with such passion and Bernie's lyrics have such meaning you can't help but be drawn into the story and performance.
@ captaingoatbeard.. i hear you! i feel the same. but on the other hand i think of all the people discovering elton john..like me when i was 18! heard "rocketman",bought a greatest hits then... Boom! that was me hooked..you buy another album then the same happens again...when you found an elton album in a music shop you didnt have its a great feeling.just as well elton has loads of albums!
410 people.....who understand the world how it should be.......millions who will never understand..??
"Only when the last tree has died...and the last river has been poisoned.....and the last fish has been caught............ will we realize that we can't eat money.....oh so true
410 views?! What's wrong with the world? Probably the most beautiful and haunting songs ever, yet the masses would rather plug their ears with easily forgettable filler. (sighs)
Yeah! you tell them John!! :)
