Republicans cut taxes on the rich, which caused other, non-progressive taxes, like state and local taxes, to rise, thereby hurting the non-rich, including the tea partiers. Republicans completely hijacked the movement, the Tea-party movement was never left or right wing, that's a common misconception. The Republican party was dying with very little real grass-roots support, so they all moved over to the Tea-Party, a more independent LIBERTARIAN MOVEMENT and started acting as if they supported it all along, when in fact they hindered its growth and caused many of the problems it was founded to correct. Its an Anti-Bush, Anti-CFR, Anti-BigGov't movement.
